As a German who spent 6 months in Vietnam -> The first week I felt like: "No, I will never ever drive myself here, this is just madness and anarchy." Week 3 I was on my Scooter driving in between cars, honking horns and using the sidewalk in between restaurant tables, when the road was blocked... You adapt quickly to chaos. But I also have to say, I have seen more road accidents in my 6 months there, than in 30+ years in Germany. And I believe being trained properly about breaking distances and seeing tricky situations coming up before they happen, really helped a lot. I was always able to tell what was illegal by German rules, but kind of ok to do without massive risks and what was simply reckless and needlessly risky. So by German standards, I behaved like a lunatic, but I never actually got close to having a crash. Unlike at least 2 Taxis and 1 Bus I went on...

Even if you drive 240 km/h, there is guaranteed to be someone even faster coming from behind.

Not all people follow the rules, but i think it's a large majority of people.

the fun part about all these rules is: If everyone would follow it 1st you could actually drive as fast as you'd like, there would be less traffic and less accidents. But people are different and foreigners may not be familiar with the rules (germany has the most neighbours in all of europe: 9 countrys) its very difficult to maintain all of these rules.

This "well behaved society" on German Autobahn requires a mandatory driving education, which is costly. To obtain a drivers licence you need an eye test certificate (cheap), certificate of first aid (cheap), many driving lessons (costly) and theoretical training. All in all expect about 3k EUR (~270k INR). To become comfortable driving high speeds, you need experience in handling the car at all circumstances. When driving high speeds (200+ km/h), no distractions allowed, always have your eyes on the road and predict intentions of others. Some drivers (me included) get their focus by listening to classical music (like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Chaikowsky etc.). It's very satisfying to fly over the road while listening to 'Blue Danube' ("An der Schönen blauen Donau") by Johann Strauß.

Sometimes people are not sure how they should know they are 300 meters away from the exit. At 7:58 you see a sign on the very right (blue with 3 white lines) that indicates 300 meters. Watch further and you will see the same blue sign with 2 stripes (200 meters) and then with 1 stripe (100 meters). After that you already see the exit lane 😊

There was this case of a Czech driver with a Bugatti who was clocked going 417km/h 259mph on the Autobahn in 2021. Didn't had conseqences for him as he didn't braek any rules.

To add some information to that. The 'run' was done early morning on a sunday on a very well maintained stretch of Autobahn. in perfect weather condition. The driver had multiple spotter cars infront of him and they were on permanent communication. These spotter cars were to see if there is any other car on the road. They picked a moment when there was nobody, except the driver and his spotter on the road to make this run. So the whole thing was planed in detail and not just a dude with a fast car, going way to fast to be save. Ofc there is always a risk with that kind of speed, but they did everything the could, to make the run save. If this is a stupid thing to do, is another topic tho.

Germany has round about 83 Mio. Citizen ! The problem in India is the Over Population of more them 1.4 Bio. people ( that is such a crazy number )
@whohan779

Well, India's population density is less than twice that of Germany; so yeah it's harder to manage, the bigger problems are willingness, attitude and money.

Only 70 % of the Autobahn is without a speed limit. Other countries which have a speed limit often have more traffic fatalities than in Germany.

It is all about good training (Fahrschule) and abiding by the rules. Without these rules, our Autobahn simply wouldn't work. Now take the US for example and you have near zero training to get you license and nobody giving a fork about how to drive on the freeway. It's everybody from themself and nobody cares about propper usage of fast lanes, etc. Mkes sense that they have more fatalities under these conditions.

9:13 Those rules of the road and that people are following them rather nicely is not actually a german thing, but a european one. And I don´t only mean, that you will pretty much see the same rules and adherence to them all over Europe. The fact is also related to the fact, that you will find plenty of drivers from all European countries everywhere. You can drive all the way through 3 or more European countries in a day and many people actually do that. Europe had no choice, but to get individualized traffic very organized and smooth.

8:00 "In India they would go like this" - Dont worry, they do that in Germany too more often than not.

This specific entrance of the Autobahn is a 10 minutes drive away from my house 😅

He is not exactly right about the passing on the right lane. You are allowed to pass him, but you are not allowed to change to the left lane in front of him.
@mizapf
@mizapf 4 месяца назад
Certainly not. Passing on the right is only allowed when traffic becomes dense, and then passing is only allowed with a maximum of 20 km/h faster, provided that you don't go faster than 80 km/h. See the Straßenverkehrsordnung (rules of the road). If other people share your view, this could explain why I seem to spot more and more people illegally passing on the right in recent times.

@@mizapf If I see someone with 100 km/h on the middle lane (without any reason) and I am on the right with 110 km/h I just pass by. I think it is more dangerous to change right-left-left-right-right, than just pass by. I wasn't aware that has such harsch restrictions but honestly I would do it anyway for the said reason. Sometimes German law is weird.😁

@@Kutchulu You could slow down and then move to the middle lane and then to the left lane to pass that Mittelspurschleicher. I understand your sentiment but it's still not allowed by law so you better not let police see that. And it is in fact dangerous because some people don't look or they start to freak out when someone passes them on the right and get nervous and don't know what to do anymore. I hate those Mittelspurschleicher from the bottom of my heart, they actually ruin my day by just displaying how ignorant and stupid they are. But... passing on the right is still not allowed for a reason. Most people do not expect anyone coming from the right.
