Hey Guys, today we are going to react to - The Best of Navid Harrid, Still Game Keep Loving! Mailing Address - Joginder Singh Shop No. 1, Beside Aksar Bhavan, Opp. Dada Market, Begumwadi Surat, Gujarat - 395003 INDIA
Scotland, especially the west coast, has several generations of Asian shopkeepers. They are very much an integral part of our culture. The relationship between Navid and the principle characters of Jack and Victor is actually one of mutual respect and the name calling and Mickley taking is typical of Scottish men who find it hard to show their feelings any other way 😊
I loved your reactions to this iconic Scottish comedy, especially when Navvid spoke to his wife Meena in Punjabi. Obviously this was subtitled for us Scots but hilarious all the same. Navvid is a character those of us old enough to remember the 1970's are very familiar with and they've become a welcome part of Scotland. Sanjeev Kohli who plays Navvid is a born and bred Scotsman who learned the ancient Scots Gaelic language for a radio programme. We all love Navvid as he is such a big character and immensely funny. Much love from Scotland.💙
His car broke down outside the school and the kids took his sweets for his shop so he was charging them for the sweets love from SCOTLAND ❤❤❤🏴🏴🏴
In the final episode of Still Game, when they finally showed Meena’s face (actually actress and activist Shamshad Aktar) it was a genuinely moving moment, as she has a smile that lights up the screen. Then, when you look into the details of Shamshad’s life it’s even more moving. A true survivor and champion.
Naveed is one of the best comic characters in this series. He has some of the funniest lines and delivers them brilliantly. BUT the absolute genius ancillary role is that of Meena. Meena is comedy gold.
Naveed is a legend in Scotland. ❤ Naveed was driving by a school when the rear doors of his van burst open with all the sweets falling out as children were coming out of school.
@Indie Jam There was an Indian connection in one of the clips you might have missed, where one of ghe characters mentioned someone had gone 'doollally'. That came into British English in the days of the Raj from the amount of British soldiers who had a hard time dealing with the conditions and time spent at the transit camp in Deolali. Often waiting for months before getting on the ship home, in a dusty crowded camp plagued by sand fleas and malaria meant many were affected mentally, hence hence they were said to have gone doolally (originally doolally tap, because of the fever/tapa aspect)
I love Navid. The kids had been stealing sweets from him. He was able to identify the sweets by smell from their breaths. Then he found out that the headteacher had also eaten some of the stolen sweeties😅. My favourite is the Geoff Capes joke though. Geoff Capes is an huge, muscular guy who used to be on the television in the seventies and eighties, doing things that needed incredible strength like towing lorries. 'Take a hike, chancer'🤣. Nice one, Navid!6
Yes. The children stole and ate the candy from the back of Navid’s Cash and Carry van when it abruptly stopped and the back doors flew open sending all of the candy out to the streets.
navid is just a legend,,,, still game is a wonderful show that i could watch with all my family from 20 to 95 years old and neverget bored of it,, its very revered in scotland and england
I got interested in this series when I was going to deliver some sessions next to Glasgow (I'm from near Liverpool). I don't know why, but I watched it and loved it. It's definitely British, a bit old and Scottish. We have lots of accents in Britain, and I had no problem understanding a Scottish accent; some new words but it's a great place.
A running gag is that we never see Meena's face, its always a view of her back or her face is hidden by something...eg the Chupa Lollipops Advert. We love Meena & Naveed!
reminds me that the corner shop down the road from my childhood home had a 50 year old indian man running it called "mr. badami" he would always shout at any kids that didnt call him mr. saying "if i wanted to be surrounded by bad manners i would let my mother in law move in with us" i remember every single time i went in he would go "you are a good strong lad, i have 9 granddaughters, just pick one and marry her, there all pretty useless but at least there not idiots, well not all of them are idiots" that went on for 5 years, except for the time he went "your selection is down to 8 im afraid, since one of them is a lesbian" and in the end, i got married to his youngest granddaughter ishani, weve been togehter 20 years and have 4 children, and mr badami hates it when i take our kids to visit, he always shouts "stop making an old man feel old"
You know what would be the best thing ever? For you two to have a face to face online meeting with Punjabi Scots, that would be Quality, as Navid says.
Navid is the one character out of all the Still Game characters that should have had his own spin off show. Could have the cast comin in for their messages aswell as some new faces. The banter between Navid n Mina is awesome. Where is the verbal ping pong?!.... Your brothers dead... hahah
@@mlee6050 In that episode, his brother did die.. He was expecting a bit of banter but get's stonewalled with that. Maybe it's you with the humour deficiency?
Navid is a very funny character in an excellent comedy programme. His relationship with his wife could be just the same as so many others but they make it different and hilarious.
Greetings from Scotland Naveed is totally 💯% magic, and Meena never speaks a word of English, nor do we see her face all through the series. Love, love, love it 💖
In one episode one of the characters went to a large cash and carry retail warehouse to pick up sweets and crisps and other stock for navids shop , somehow sone of the boxes fall off the van outside a school and the kids start eating his sweets and crisps for free , Navid shows up and using his shopkeeper skills can smell from their breath what treat of his they have been eating and charging them accordingly 😅 👍🏴
Sanjeev Kohli has a comedy show on BBC radio called Fags, Mags and Bags also set in a shop in Scotland and it's one of the best shows on the BBC, brilliant.
Navid is like many Indian shop owners in Scotland especially in Glasgow. When he was sniffing everyone's breath was because he is a shopkeeper and supposed to know what all sweets and confectionery smells like, so he smelt all the kids breath so they had to pay for the items they stole and ate from the school shop
That's slightly wrong, when Jack, Victor and Isa were stuck on that bus with Davie and he lost his mind, he was driving the bus everywhere, all over the road, and here pops up Tam and Navid in their van, right next to the bus Victor jack and Isa are on, at stop lights, they try to send a signal to Tam and Navid that Davie the bus driver had lost his mind, so Tam and Navid followed the bus, Davie realised this, while backing his bus almost into Navids Van, where he preceeded to back up his van and all his sweets and candy fall out the back, right next to a primary school, all the kids stole from him including the teacher. Sorry for the script. Lol.
West of Scotland humour is “in your face”, mixed with Navid it’s hilarious. When Navid argues with his wife, it is very funny; she always takes the command position in the argument. Sanjeev Kohli who plays Navid, is one of Scotland’s best actor/comedian’s. Few people would deny that.
Actually the reasons Navid is smelling all the schoolkid's (and teacher's) breaths is becuase they've all been shoplifting from him. Great scence - especially when the schoolteacher was also caught.
Think you did really well understanding Navid, much of the words he uses aren't English, and are only used in Scotland. And yes I agree with earlier comment, Navid is a typical character in Scotland, especially in Glasgow, though he comes across as a Sikh to me so unusual not to wear turban, though not unheard of.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this. The two main characters who play Jack & Victor, wrote the sitcom, but gave all the other characters like Navid great scenes to themselves. Navid's wife Meena also has many great lines and verbal sparring, but there's no compilations.
Hello, I hope this helps with the "breath test"......So Naveed is a shopkeeper & over the years he knows all of his stock. He also knows his stock is missing, he also knows the recognition of it's scent/smell. He knows it's shoplifters that is the cause. Therefore he has the line up for the breath test.....he knows the smell, and the cost/price of each item, what he is owed & who has been stealing. Wotsits are a cheesy snack/crisp. Sorry for the long explanation, but i hope this helps you understand xx
You need to watch the series from the 1st video it's good. These are just bits from the series. Naveed has a wife mee a and she never shows her face but makes funny comments.
I don't know if you realise but the old characters in this are all played by younger actors, including Navid. When he's sniffing the kids it's to identity if they've stolen from him, he's smelling their breath for sweets they've eaten and at the end finds the teacher also smells of stolen sweets. I'm glad you enjoyed it, we love the characters and Navid character.
smelling the childrens breath, his delivery van was broken into and all the kids stole the sweets, so he was smelling breath because he knows all is stock in his shop so he could smell it all and know how much they owed him exactly for the stuff
Navid really is a legend character in Scottish comedy. Every character in Still Game actually exists in Glasgow, most people with these characteristics are few and far between nowdays. Hope you watched the full episodes guys for the context within the jokes.
Great review, I liked your comments. I am English and have watched the whole series. I liked the way when his wife spoke they put subtitles up so it meant that the scots could ne understand her. 😁😁👍👍✔✔
The kids stole sweets from his van after he had been to the cash & carry. Navid was working out who hat eaten which sweets by smelling their breath & then telling them how much they needed to pay him for what they ate. Even the Headmaster of the School had taken sweets 😂😂. Love Still Game an Mina and Navid are great characters.
He's smelling their breath because navids van crashes, and his stock was stolen by the school kids, so he's going about trying to get his stock/money back. Navies character is brilliant.
The children stole sweets from Navid. He was showing that he could tell which child stole which sweets just by smelling. And was telling how much he was owed for each one. The teacher also ate some. Hope that clarifies it somewhat....
I don’t know if anything has been explained on the ‘sniffing’ clip Navid’s van broke down near a school and stock falls out the back, whereupon school kids descend on the van and steal the sweets. Navid and friend Tam go to the school to report the incident and Navid has all the schoolchildren who stole from his van lined up as he tries to identify what they ate by smelling their breaths, and charges them for the snacks accordingly. The teacher apologises for the incident, but Navid smells his breath and it turns out that he had eaten Poppets, and is charged accordingly.
We never ever get to see Mina (Navid's wife) her face is always obscured with boxes or she always has her back to us, but the things Mina says to Navid are hillarious, but you need to know Scottish humour to get some of the jokes, but they are even funnier because you hear Mina in her language and we can see it in subtitles but it is translated exactly how it would be said in West of Scotland
Navids van had accident and all sweets had fallen out back of van.. kids helped themselves to his sweets. He was smelling their breath to see what they had stolen.
You would have to watch the episode to understand why navid smells the kids breath, his delivery truck doors broke open and all the sweets and chocolate and crisps fell out so the only way navid could charge them for the stolen goods was to smell the stuff off their breath, the teacher at the end was the best part cause he thought he had got away with it but navid still smelled the stolen sweets off him too 😂
Love you reacted to this,Meena is great part.joke is until last ever episode yiu never saw her face through canera angles, props etc as Naveed would say Qualit y
Navid's wife never speaks in English but always has subtitles. You never got to see her face until the last episode I think. No he was not smelling for drink but for sweets I cant quite remember how it happened but think it was because his stock fell from his van and the kids all helped themselves to the sweets.
im not sure if anyone answered your question. why was Navid smelling the children mouths? It was because he could tell which snacks they had been stealing from his shops and how much money they have to pay him back. It was lovely to watch your video. I'm scottish and i love Navid so much! Have a blessed day!
in Scotland/England/Ireland in small shops the accent is a mix of Indian/pakistani/etc with a mix of where the shops located. I would say arguably Glasgow is the strongest easiest to adapt to which is why his indian accent has that weegie twang to it. 👍 The guy olaying him has it too but his voice is not that monotonic he was inspired by a guy he knew. 👍
for context: 5:50 - Navid is interrogating a bunch of kids (and later teacher) who helped themselves to his van's stock after it all poured out the back of his van due to it backing up too hard from a bus.
Navid was in the shop van with Tam and where following Jack and Victor who where on the bus and in danger cause the bus driver (Robbie Coltrane) was going off his head, he reversed the van when the bus was coming towards them and the back door opened spilling the Sweet's outside the primary school, Navid was smelling the kids breath to see what sweets they had eaten lol that's what happened with the school kids 🏴👍
Jammy Dodgers are very nice little cookies (imagine two thin little shortbread cookies with raspberry jam in between) When he's smelling the breath of the kids and the teacher, the van carrying his supplies had an accident outside of the school and the kids came out and stole his supplies. He was going through and retrieving his payment for the goods stolen.
