I went to see it in IMAX having seen Queen live during this era (in 1980 and 1982). I have to say there were moments in that film where I thought I was IN the concert audience of 40+ years before. It was that good. For anyone who wants to see and hear what it was like at a full Queen live show (Queen live 1971-1986, not since), go to see that in sound surround and IMAX, if it's ever shown again.

I REALLY think you'd appreciate the instrumentals from all of them during their performance of White Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1974 - there's an absolutely stunning interlude in the middle. They're all ridiculously talented. John could play every instrument, Roger played a bit of guitar too (as did Freddie), and Brian is also great on piano (he plays at the start of Save Me from this same concert before switching with Freddie, and often plays keyboard too). Roger and Brian also have more than one solo album each and are great singers; check out their tribute song to Freddie about seven years after his death. It's called No One But You (Only the Good Die Young). It's super sad, of course (and John's last appearance in the band), but the music video is a beautiful tribute.

A few fun facts about Queen: * Guitarist Sir Brian May has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and built his electric guitar (Red Special) when he was 17 (with his dad). * Bassist John Deacon has a degree in electronics. He designed and built the amp that Brian sometimes uses to create unique sounds on Red Special. John was also involved in the band's financial management. * Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology (pre-med). His vocal range is better than most lead singers of other groups. * Lead singer Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. It goes without saying that his vocal range was amazing and he was the best front man of any band. * All four have written #1 hits, and all are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

@MikePhillips-pl6ov
@MikePhillips-pl6ov 4 месяца назад
Don't see any evidence for that. At 8.00 Brian ends on a sustained note, for the vocals/percussion only section where Freddie gets the crowd involved. I saw Queen live four times, from 1980-1984, and they always had this section and other similar sections in their songs where instruments were low or silenced, just to break the song up. Yes you can see Brian going over to the side at that moment but that's because he knew there was a break in guitar for this section and might have been just checking a string tuning - or even taking a drink! (as Freddie did in this song) If you note across a full two hour Queen gig, there are periods when the guitar isn't playing.
@BurningFlame08

Yeah, theres definitely no string issues. You can hear Brain noodling around, he most likely went for a drink or to check tuning.

It's impossible to spot but in the middle there is a lengthy section where Freddie as at stage front doing his thing and you can't see Brian but Freddie keeps looking around to where Brian should be. This is because Brian had broken a string and ran off to get it fixed, the others were just filling til he got back. It's really seamless and so professionally done, incredible.

As a commentator above said, this clip from 1981 was a great live performance. Live Aid was a brilliant 20 minutes - probably one of the best short lived performances of all time. But ANY full Queen concert to 1986 was better than Live Aid - two hours not 20 minutes; more volume; more effects; and Freddie's voice better than it was at Live Aid when he had a sore throat. Everyone should watch, if they can, the full filmed show of this Montreal gig, or Milton Keynes 1982, or one of the 1970s gigs. Of course, watch the Live Aid performance - it's gotta be done! But remember it's only 20 minutes of greatness.

Brian May and Roger Taylor both have solo material. Though when you have Freddie as a lead vocal, you gladly settle for backup! Part of Queen's sound on stage is provided by the Deacy, which is an amp John Deacon made himself out of broken radio equipment he found in the trash somewhere! Brian is an astrophysicist in his spare time and has done some work with NASA. Clearly, building your own guitar(with your father) and playing lead for a phenomenal band isn't enough! 😂
@sandrabutler8483
@sandrabutler8483 4 месяца назад
You'll also find the sound comes from Roger tuning his own drums something he's always done since he teamed up with Dr Sir Brian May at university in London, they had a group with Tim. Sir Brian built his own guitar from things around his house with his dad back in 1963, John has a degree in electronics so again sounds come from the Amps he built out of nothing which they've always used, Fred never had singing lessons, he had a few piano ones at boarding school in India, but didn't enjoy them. They all have degrees Dr of Astrophysics which Sir Brian finished in I think the early 00's at the same London university, Roger has a degree in Science and Fred in Graphic Design. Oh and Sir Brian plays with a coin an old sixpence

This entire concert at the Montreal Forum was epic! It's interesting that in later years, Brian and Roger did a commentary while rewatching this and said that the band had not really wanted to do this gig. They had come off a long tiring tour a short time before and found that their manager had set this up for a would-be film maker, unbeknowst to them. They went into it annoyed and soon became angry at all the interference by cameramen on stage and by the demands of the director, especially with regard to wardrobe. The concert was to be 2 nights and they were ordered to wear the exact same clothing for film reasons. This was the final blow to Freddie! Anyway this became the fuel for an aggressive performance and for a definitely noncompliant wardrobe: See We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions. Also especially, see Dragon Attack and Save Me for more 100-proof performances at this concert. Definitely enjoyed your reactions and subscribed

I can't imagine if there was no RU-vid, then you would only be trapped in the knowledge that you currently have, you would never know how many great things musicians had decades ago...😂😅

Love your Queen reaction videos and talking about where each instrument should sit in the frequency spectrum to make a full sound. You should react to their live version of the song “Liar” from Live at the Rainbow 1974

Just found you guys and subscribed. I like new bands and old bands. Always good music to find out there! I took up playing bass in my 50s during lockdown. Realised just how tricky John Deacon's playing was!

That's awesome, I hope the bass playing is going well! John Deacon has been a massive influence on my bass playing (Dan) every single time I listen I'm astounded by his excellence!

Hello great react. You most see the whole consert here, one of the best they had. Tray Dragon Attack from same concert……omg. But I whant you to try Prince too Woaw what a guitarplayer, drummer, bas-player, piano, keeboard he played over 27 instrument. He was singer/songwrither, komposer, koreograf, dancer……he was almost a one-man group. On his first LP he did all himself. And what a preformer. Freddie and Prince are my two heroes, genuins musician. They cant comperes they are in each end, but in a way they are the best musician who ever had sat foot on earth…….both blow youre head off…….please guys 😊

I suggest you watch the Milton Keynes version of this song. The beginning is completely different and it has a completely different feel. If not, if you want to hear John Deacon doing amazing job slapping the bass, watch dragon attack at montreal. It's an awesome performance. Also, if you want to see something amazing, watch 500,000 people sing at Rock in Rio Love of my Life. You guys are amazing reactors. I'm looking forward to teaching you some Queendom.

It's really nice to hear someone who understands the technical aspects of the music react to this, who can appreciate the talents of the entire band and how the members complement each other. You guys are interesting to listen to, I'll look forward to hearing your reactions to other music!

Did you know all band members had/have degrees? Freddie's was in graphic art and design, Roger's is in biology, John s is in electrical engineering and Sir Brian's is a PhD in astrophysics. Brian May was knighted by King Charles II in 2023 for his contribution to music and charity (he's an activist against fox hunting and the culling of badgers).

Fave live performance of all time! Always loved queen and it is my all time number 1 band buthis is the performance when I finally clocked how good Roger's voice is whilst playing perfect drums! Think he might be my favourite drummer! If you really want to see more of Roger's awesome voice you have to do a reaction to Killer Queen & I'm In Love With My Car Medley also live from Montreal 1981! It's nuts!! 👍👌😎💯🔥🔥
