Indigenous actor and mask carver Eric Schweig is apprenticing as Totem Pole Carver with his indigenous friend Gerry Sheena on the Canadian East Coast. This is their first collaboration which was carved in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from a 500+ year old West Coast red cedar log during 2023. Many more of Gerry Sheena’s totem poles can be seen in this video clip. Four additional totem poles were created before by Gerry Sheena alone and filmed at the Friends United International convention centre in Nova Scotia. Gerry’s, and Eric‘s friend Rolf Bouman, who is the founder of the Friends United initiative has brought both together for this unique project. More collaboration projects will follow and be filmed during 2024. Eric will then also be featured while he’s carving. Eric’s masks can already be viewed on the Friends United website. Eric is presently exploring metal projects and has crafted incredible hunting knives. This will also be featured in the future videos on the Friends United websites. Stay tuned.
