CECOEDECON has been passionately dedicated to the cause of food security and food sovereignty. Our commitment has been unwavering in advocating for indigenous food varieties, recognizing their crucial role in enhancing nutrition, health, and the livelihoods of our partner communities.
With the United Nations declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets, we’re at a pivotal moment! This global recognition is an opportunity to highlight India's diverse millet experiences and other indigenous varieties and share the invaluable experiences of our farmers from different parts of the country.
In line with this vision, CECOEDECON in collaboration with Kisan Seva Samiti and supported by Misereor, organized a Food festival on Feb 7, 2024. The essence of organizing this festival was to orchestrate the Government’s commitment towards nutrition, fostering conversations and actions aimed at cultivating an environment that uplifts and embraces indigenous seeds and food varieties, and support food and nutrition security.
The event, graced by the presence of over 500 enthusiasts from across the nation, brought together a dynamic blend of representatives from diverse sectors, including political spheres, Government, media, journalists, academia, think tanks, and farmers.
The festival was a celebration of indigenous food varieties and diverse millet experiences and a platform aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers and those in agrarian communities who are dedicated to agriculture using local seeds and organic methods. Additionally, it provided a platform for these communities to share their seeds, value-added products, agricultural practices, marketing strategies, and other enriching experiences. Amidst all the happenings, a special moment that quietly stood out was the joy of sharing a delightful variety of local delicacies prepared using indigenous food varieties.
