She is not singing Canada's national anthem. She is singing a song of the Cree people. Our village is the name of the song I believe. Canada stole the tune from the Cree people. I thank her so much for what she did, she is truly a hero. Thank you daughter of the great spirit
You missed the part where she screamed "Take. That. Off!" after the pope donned the bonnet THEN she starts singing. She wasn't singing for him, she was singing AT HIM. It's not a patriotic thing, it's protesting ✌️💜
This was an act of defiance. She did not sing “Oh Canada”. Told him to take his men back with him to atone for the past. And turned her back on him. Not to mention women aren’t suppose to address him. Beautifully powerful. Just not in the way people are trying to make it.
He was invited to Canada by Indigenous leaders. If anyone has a problem with his visit, they should be complaining to their chiefs, not the Pope who simply accepted their invitation.
This woman's pain over this atrocity was beard for the world to see. From this moment in time I truly hope this provided her some closure. I have had the fortune of having first nation friendships that I deeply value. For all the grief they have endured, it never ceases to amaze me how they have been so forgiving. I don't think I could muster that strength of character.
Shame how they leave out the best part where she tells him the spoken. An absolutely compelling speech they left out. "You are hereby served the spoken law, we the daughters of the great spirit and our tribal sovereign members can not be forced into law or treaty that is now the great law. We have appointed chiefs on our territories, govern yourselves accordingly". Said in Cree
why? you canadians always want to distance yourself from the queen.........heck you want to be out of the commonwealth. I am all for Native American rights....it's their country and you guys are encroaching on their land. you should apologise for trespassing and stealing......i know england started it because of the colonization but americans and canadians carried it on!
@Brandon Jonesworth Didn't you know? The Queen makes a profit and helps to pay all those benefits. Anyway she's the Queen and you're just a small minded troll...
Heartbreaking and expresses the whole suffering of the indigenous people of Canada and all around the world ! WOW!That said we should not blame pope Francis for what the church has done in the past and should recognize the valuable effort that he has done in his trip to Canada and at his age, to try to apologize for the tremendous harm done to the Native people and thus beginning some sort of a healing process
@@taevo1113your a funny kid aren’t you learn a thing or to about my people on what we went through when your ancestors came and killed us for no reason
@@taevo1113 thats what's I Said last year. I actually lived in Edmonton at the time. I remember reading a news article shortly after he left saying that his views on canada actually changed for the worse after his visit😂
It’s a mix of emotions. On the one hand sadness for the past, but hope for a future, bc she has been elevated to the honor of singing for a foreign dignitary, unthinkable in the Canada of the past.
I belong to same tribe known as the head hunter tribe, brother atleast they made us civilized, the tribes used to attack other tribe, kull each other, women were considered trophies, the tribes died more by fighting each other and scrifce and later by british policy of divide and rulerule later.
@@socio-economicnewsnetwork4740 I feel like the necessity of making people civilised was definitely needed, but the way it was achieved was WAY TO MUCH OVERKILL
Interesting how it's not canadian government apologizing, considering the fact that they were also heavily involved with those residential schools. Seems like Canada keeps trying to focus the blame solely on the vatican.
Are you really so unaware that Canada has been very active in reconciling itself with it's historical errors with First Nations peoples. They have done more than mere apologies. There's room for criticism of whether they've done enough, but you can't act like they avoid the issue. That's nonsense
You're about 15 years late with this particular criticism. A formal apology over the residential schools was made by the PM of Canada in 2008. There is still a lot more to be done but you should take the time to learn the facts before you draw conclusions.
@@ems7623 If Canada has done more in apologizing to first nations, why then are so many first nation communities without clean water, poor, almost abandoned. They are the federal government'responsibility. Excuses and no action on the part of Canada is lame, insincere and show that Canada's colonial past is well alive.
@@porangytang Oooh la de da, a formal apology? No doubt with tens of billions of dollars in aid attached? No? Then Canada isn't any better than the US when it comes to Native recompense. Acknowledgement of known history is like commenting on the weather: mere observation. Nothing to be congratulated.
Salute to the Natives of Canada and America from the land of Sumer, Assyria and Babylonia, from Iraq 🇮🇶💚 wounded by three wars and tragedies of destruction due to greed for its land and its oil 💔😔. I salute the courage of the Pope. I weep with the lady’s tears and songs, and I feel the greatness of her people, as if my ancestors were crying for their sacred land of Urok. Hope you will visit us one day in Iraq. You will be dear guests .
Indeed they talk about tragedy that happened few hundred years ago and we're not aware that people of Iraq, Ukraine and many others are suffering right now
@@goxyeagle8446 the place has been conquered and settled by many different groups throughout history. So the odds of any Iraqi having Sumerian ancestry is possible but extremely low.
What is it like too live in a country where the history killed your people some of theses people aren’t vengeful against everyone others are. The fact they are trapped in the reservation there’s no hope. The irony of apologizing and doing this.. what will change after this? Maybe there is if they fund the schools!
Thats not the national anthem, she sings the ancient song the corporation stole the tune from. Then she speaks Law to him, serving him notice and that he should govern himself accordingly!
@@tonyaflorescruz3888 invite him to your home then insult him after he’s apologized 100 times for something he had no direct connection too? Great stand!
@@invadinginfidel2195 He accepted the position and all the responsibilities and rights therein. He wasn’t invited to her home. He hasn’t apologized 100 times. He still refuses to return stolen and sacred artifacts housed in the vatican. He claims they were “gifts” from those the church “evangilized”. Give me a break.
@@tonyaflorescruz3888 Fontaine, who is an indigenous leader invited the pope. So ya he was invited here! So again, try to not insult your guest after they’ve apologized . It’s tacky Also possession is 9/10’s of the law but if you have a claim against Francis the pope then your more then welcome to try your luck in court! But you need evidence. Which you have none, otherwise he’d be in court already. lol so please give us all a break lol
@@invadinginfidel2195 It’s not just a screen name is it? 😂 It isn’t an apology when the person apologizing doesn’t take responsibility and blames it on someone else. Had it been a genuine apology perhaps it would have been better received. And even then, probably not. Genocide isn’t a “grave error”. His words. It’s a calculated eradication.
Maybe for the same reason France, Spain, Portugal, etc, celebrate the Roman Empire despite the horrific initial conquest. You can't turn back the clock but you _can_ influence your new polis from the inside, colloquially known as "if life gave you lemons then make lemonade".
Let us start a new debate. Why spiritual groupings are interfering in social and political spheres? All over the world, atrocities happened. The mistake should not happen again.
Yea I used to be emotionally sentimental about gatherings in the presence of an authority in The Church....until The Church cheated me out of a job! Asta La vista!
It would be helpful is someone told the world why it is taboo to wear the headress. If you want cultural understanding, you need to explain culturally specific things like this to the world. That is the only way traditional cultures can ever survive and have the respect they deserve in the modern world.
@@ems7623 So in fact there might be a taboo in place about the feather headress? That makes me wonder even more about who exactly gave the gift to the Pope and how they came to this decision.
Where is the rest?! This is a misrepresentation. Where is the rest of what she SAID in CREE?!?! Why are you further silencing us and erasing these powerful moments our women are having!?!
That lady singing or yelling made just things worse look at the Pope just laughing at her .and why not talk English so dude could understand you u guys had one shot and u guys did this
"But when the church got through They traded their beads for bottles Smashed on Railway Avenue And they cut off their braids And lost some link with nature" Why haven't it gotten more attention?
So much hurt. So many of us can relate and so many ppl have suffered worse. Get therapy for your pain , do better for your ppl and assimilate. No amount of money takes the place of therapy and healing. Get on w life and assimilate
Siberian and Native Americans are just identical in everything. We also suffer from colonization even now. Racism towards us in Russia and Ukraine nowadays are despicable. Ukranian and Russian media even try to present this war as a war between Native Siberians and Ukranians, even though there are 0.1 percent of our people there as conscripts. Way less than Ukranians, Germans and others in Russian army.
When will the indigineous people ask forgiveness for the Slaughtering of the entire innocent pioneer families? The killing of Men, Women, and Children which their only guilt was to work the land to feed their families and their country, We all are guilty of attrocities done on each other. Please stop.
She's an indigenous woman. Specifically, a Cree iskwew. Singing in the cree language to tell off the head of one of the churches that committed genocide against indigenous people. Sometimes a person's racial or cultural identity is relevant to the story.
@@dewilew2137 Well that was an obnoxious and rude reply. Perhaps this person is from a part of the world far and away from knowing the details behind this video. Do you know the history of every nation and those nations where indigenous people were wronged. No. I didn't think so. You could have easily explained in a sentence or two the back story of thus video but instead you used your opportunity to reply not in a meaningful way but in a mean way. Lighten up.
Indigenous woman responds to the absolute insult that the pope (head of thr genocidal church) be given the honor of a headdress. She sings to the tune of o canada, basically saying "you don't have authority here. The great law has authority, govern yourself accordingly". 😊
singing the song of the occupier congratulations another day of humiliation for you, take it all back and kick out jordan peterson as a start, he will try to morally justify canadas existence through christian principles! say no to all positive notions and say YES to independence!
This is a shi* video. Before she started singing she screamed “take that thing off him”. And then gave a moving speech in Cree after that isn’t included here. One where she says they are sovereign and have the right to return the land to beibg governed by the original laws. Not their laws. Too bad this didn’t include it all.
