Indio is a city in Riverside County, California, United States, in the Coachella Valley of Southern California's Colorado Desert region. It lies 23 miles (37 km) east of Palm Springs, 75 miles (121 km) east of Riverside, 127 miles (204 km) east of Los Angeles, 148 miles (238 km) northeast of San Diego, and 250 miles (402 km) west of Phoenix. The word Indio is Spanish for Indian.
The population was 76,036 in the 2010 United States Census, up from 49,116 at the 2000 census, an increase of 55%. Indio was formerly referred to as the Hub of the Valley, a Chamber of Commerce slogan used in the 1970s. It was later nicknamed the City of Festivals, a reference to the numerous cultural events held in the city, most notably the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The best Tamale festival is in Indio! Nice place to live, close to all the off-roading you want. Joshua Tree National Park close by, love oks line a great place to live & visit.

I remember turning to the left on Monroe until we got to 49th? whatever street that went to the Indio Municipal Golf Course. I spent winters with my parents in their bus conversion at Bob"s RV Park. I looked at it on Google Maps and Bob's RV was empty cement slabs and was for sale. Just before Walmart. It was farmland when we were staying there. The last time I was there was in 1984. We started staying there in the late 70s.

sadly, no. A Dunn Edwards paint was build there. I enjoyed eating at The PiÑata, great food.

Shields Dates ,,a great date shake ,,oh yummy and there are good Mexican restaurants in Indio ,,and the Tamale festival and take a look in old Rocky,s pawn shop if it's still there,,and ,,if you like thrift shops as you will never know what you will find ,,😊

I lived in Indio from 1960 to 1965. I lived on Arabia Way just across the street from the Date Festival Fairgrounds. The city has certainly grown and flourished since I left. Thank you for posting.

Ah Indio, the ideal desert city for Californians who wish to relocate in nearby Arizona but don't want to move THAT far from Los Angeles and San Diego 😅👏! It's certainly an interesting one from a historical standpoint. I believe most of the commercially-grown dates sold domestically in the US come from there as well (one of many select crops California should grow a lot more of regarding its increasingly drought-prone climate, truth be told). ANY city that heavily promotes music and arts programs gets an easy 👍 from me, so congrats to Indio for making that list!

Nothing really bad about Indio. There’s crime all over the valley not just Indio but different areas have more crime than others. It’s nice 8 months out of the year and hot for 4. Been here my whole life and the summers aren’t to bad but def if your new to this heat it will be rough. Coachella valley as a whole lacks certain things but we are getting new things to do in the valley.

Oh my gosh. Over 20 years since I've passed through Hwy 111 its is still as boring as ever. But I did see the old I.H.S. and saw 5 parking lots I took my girl classmates for some extracurricular activities woohoo.

@julienielsen3746 Shyt❗️It was mostly Desert when you were last here then. Hwy 111 is a great cruise when you need to get out the house and clear your mind. Cant beat our scenery❗️💯 🌴🌞🌴🌞
