Individuality is DEAD

Hi loves! Welcome back to the channel! Recently, there's been a lot of discourse about black individuality and it's a conversation I'm interested in and want to share some feedback on. This is just my thoughts and I'm curious to know yours! Do you think individualism is dead? Do you see dark skin black women as a monolith? There's a lot to discuss, so grab your popcorn or makeup brushes, and let's talk about it.

As a dark skinned and plus sized woman, when I was a girl I wanted nothing more than to look like the it girls or my light skinned friends because of the very apparent positive opinions and love they received. Fast forward to 2020, when Kevin Samuels told Black women that are fat we’d die alone because no one wants us. This one had me on a spiral for a little bit. I even had an up and coming influencer once tell me that if I wanted to get married one day I needed to lose weight. Today, I couldn’t give to Fs or a damn about how society thinks any longer. This is where I feel like influencers who’ve made a living off of influencing come off rather hypocritical talking about the lack of individuality when they are some of the main pushers of certain aesthetics and literally advertise to death specific products, clothing items, furniture, etc. that contribute to some of the prominent aesthetics that many subscribe to today. All their swipe up links that sell them the same exact outfit they’re wearing and then they act confused when they see people dressing just like them or begging for more links to literally everything they own. 🤷🏾‍♀️

TBH the world has ALWAYS put black women into very specific categories. It's so strange. I had the pleasure of reading "Even the stars get lonesome" by Maya Angelou and here's a quote, " The larger society, observing the women’s outrageous persistence in holding on, staying alive, thought it had no choice but to translate the perversity and contradictions of the black woman’s life into a fabulous fiction of multiple personalities… for they could not have existed without the romantic racism that introduced them into the American psyche. The heartbreaking tenderness of black women and their majestic strength speak of the heroic survival of a people who were stolen into subjugation, denied chastity and refused innocence."--Essentially, they had to view black women as "men" in order to be okay with themselves for enslaving us and having us work such harsh conditions. They striped away our feminity, but such a huge part of a woman (mainstream, whatever) is feminity. So they made up these weird categories to try and place us in. But its DEEP in our psyche at this point. Many people get hostile when they don't understand something or it doesn't fit into the box they deem it should. When you're healed, its curiosity. But most people, aren't healed. "How dare this person express themselves, when they look like this, but here I am and I can't even speak my truth, what's wrong with me?" ---insecurities. people need help lololoolo thanks for coming to my TED TALK.
