*Together with director Gerda Jansen Hendriks, Indonesia expert, Hans Goedkoop started the preparations for Indonesia Calling (the title is a reference to the famous and at the time very controversial film by Joris Ivens 'Indonesia Calling' from 1946). However, due to corona, the planned recordings in Indonesia could not go ahead for a long time. In February 2022, they first made the diptych The Indonesian Reckoning**, using material shot in the Netherlands, about the aftermath of Dutch colonial history in Indonesia from 1950 onwards, a diptych that caused a stir. Last autumn the recordings could still take place in Indonesia.

Hans Goedkoop leaves for Indonesia in search of traces of his grandfather Rein van Langen. He was born in Java at the end of the 19th century and would later become chief of staff of the colonial army. How Indonesian is Hans' family actually?
