*3 August Update : As of writing this, they have slowly lifted most of the bans from major sites and even apologized to the public. I really hope that would be the end of this censorship saga and I hope I won't be making another sequel to this in the future. I hope.

-makes a rule nobody knew or care about -barely or doesn't announce the new rule to anybody and does the bare minimum to warn companies about it -bans one of the main payment methods, which pretty much ruins lives -bans one of the main websites used to buy items outside of Indonesia -bans multiple video game services -refuses to elaborate -leaves the internet to burn

Don't worry, they didn't block their "illegal" casino sites because the yakuza bribed them. So you can play poker instead of playing phasmo.

Paypal being blocked is the worst (even while it's only temporarily), there's literally someone's hard-earned money and livelihood (freelancers, designers, digital artists, etc.) being restricted and they can't withdraw their money. This is what our Ministry of Communication and Information choose to focus on instead while there're data breaches happening left and right on sensitive personal data in their healthcare system (your name, address, email, ID no (yes, freaking ID number) being leaked to public)

When this was first announced I was like. "No, you can't be serious. Forcing the world to waste their time signing up on something just to get their site opened on some third world country. Besides, the backlash would be massive, not to mention the economical issues this introduced." And then my Steam couldn't open and I was like "Oh wait, you're actually serious" Thankfully aside from VPN, people have already been sharing ways to get around the block. Still, terrible completely unnecessary rule.

This policy is so unpopular that even the also unpopular Ministry of Finance, the one responsible for your taxes, joined netizen side and protest Kominfo policy for blocking Steam, stating that it would blocked them collecting taxes.

Man I remember the day when my co-workers talked about a new ban on games, I didn't believe them until I got home and saw it all behind censorship. The next day we all tried to figure out to what extent, man we were blown away

This is borderline evil. So many people have paypal as a bank and your government just blocked your livelyhood on top of your fun. I pray things get better, hang in there!

FYI Indo's Ministry of Finance is tilted against the Ministry of Communication's decision cuz a lot of these blocked services already signed tax contract in Indonesia and the abrupt blocking of services totally whited out the the gains from tax out of these services.

Man i love the indonesian government ❤️. I couldn't draw because adobe is blocked, couldn't get art request because paypal is blocked, couldn't play my 200 steam library games. Overall i hold the most useless skill in the industry right now 😀

our Ministry of Communication and Information does not even have a tech-related degree, he is a economy degree and didnt even know how to use technology properly. I have no idea why a person that have no experience and knowledge about technology can have the position of a Ministry of all things. most people under Kominfo are 35 year+ boomers that doesnt even know how to search in google without asking the intern, most of the time the worker there just throw their job to intern and didnt pay them at all while they go shopping to mall etc. (info is from an intern who have worked there).

As an Indonesian, this hurts to watch, EVEN IF IM ONLY A KID, THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.

Sadly. It's not confirmed temporary. Could be permanent as long as said services refuse to sign in with the new system (PSA System) made by the Kominfo. Which needs you to do tedious procedure and money, AND on top of that, signing it means that said service must allow gov to have access to their customer data (only for Indonesian customer data at least), but that it self means Breaching the Privacy Policy of most if not all the services out there. Indonesia is trying to become the next "you know where" whilst keep badmouthing them. Irony at its finest

FYI to all foreigners out there, our government just audited top 100 populer website. They will continue to audit top 200 populer website and they will target to execute it next week. In other words, there will be more website and platforms got banned in the future. In case people are wondering, all of the blocked sites are accessible now with the exception of epic games. They open temporary 5 days access to paypal on day 1 but paypal has follow the regulation and its now permanently accessible. But what a pain in the ass. Ministry of technology said they support esport and then proceed to block steam and other gaming services, people were mad.
