That lady looks so greedy who says "to make business" while capturing civet cats in small cages not letting them out from 6 years, atleast leave them on large open grounds at least!
Humans are the worst predators on earth, the most greedy and inhumane at any cost to animals. Not to mention, what kind of person eats products produced from shi*. Nastiness and cruelty at it's finest.
the bali coffee luwak is just the worst, because the civets were kept in captivity and make the process unnatural, you should try the sumatra kopi luwak it def.tastes better than the bali's because the civets were not kept in captivity and they could live freely in the forests and the coffee plantation over there so they could pick the highest quality coffee beans.Luwak chose only the best and high quality coffee beans on nature and thats what make this kind of coffee become really expensive but if they kept in captivity and being forced fed they have limitations in choices therefore they would just eat whatever coffee beans fed to them and this will lead to the low quality coffee coffee that tastes nothing but like poop, just like the ones that you show in this video, you report the bad quality of coffee luwak, bali's coffee luwak always tastes the worst.
'My business', she smiles - woman, you are taking the lives of beautiful creatures just so they can poop beans. They never leave their cages. What an insanely insensitive monster are you?
The origin of kopi luwak is closely connected with the history of coffee production in Indonesia. In the early 18th century the Dutch established the cash-crop coffee plantations in their colony in the Dutch East Indies islands of Java and Sumatra, including Arabica coffee introduced from Yemen. During the era of Cultuurstelsel (1830-70), the Dutch prohibited the native farmers and plantation workers from picking coffee fruits for their own use. Still, the native farmers wanted to have a taste of the famed coffee beverage. Soon, the natives learned that certain species of musang or luwak (Asian palm civet) consumed the coffee fruits, yet they left the coffee seeds undigested in their droppings. The natives collected these luwaks' coffee seed droppings, then cleaned, roasted and ground them to make their own coffee beverage. The fame of aromatic civet coffee spread from locals to Dutch plantation owners and soon became their favourite, yet because of its rarity and unusual process, the civet coffee was expensive even during the colonial era.
People are really messed up, and have too much money to spend on retarded things. Just let those poor animals be, stop exploiting helpless animals for your own gain!
never ever drink kopi luwak! it is such a cruel industry. animals have to suffer in cages for many years, often becoming ill and self mutilating just so that humans can drink a nice cup of coffee ?? this is ridiculous
I was able to try this through a friend of mine who could actually afford it. Opinion? There is absolutely NOTHING special about it. If anything, it tastes similar to the cheap coffee that you get out if a vending machine - honestly. Never again - and certainly not worth animals being caged.
Cruelty to Animals (Civet Cat) kept in cages to eat and poop for business. It's better to let them walk free in the enclosed Cherry Farm where they walk freely, built their homes and make babies. Then farmers collect poop for coffee
If they let the cats be free range then I'd have no issue. But as long as they're caged and can't even run around. . . well I have an issue with that!!
The history of Kopi Luwak started in Malang County East Java province. The origin place of world famous Kofie van Java aka Java Coffee which was introduced by the Dutchman to Europe Continent.
bad place to choose, luwak is javanese name for that animal, in bahasa indonesia it's called musang, so the origin of coffee luwak likely mt. dieng coffee or dampit east java, not balinese kintamani. and originaly wild civet only eat the perfect ripe coffee cherries but now a day luwak coffee produced by feeding caged civet with coffee cherry, that was wrong act, thats make the civets only eat what they was served not what they was choose to eat. and this make the kopi luwak is just a mistake.
hemptime123 I agree. But, not all civets are kept in captivity to collect civet coffes. Most Civets roam freely in the wild unlike what ABC demonsterate in this video. Just sayin.
I'll have to take a hard pass on this coffee, the best coffee I ever had was Royal Kona Coffee in Maui when my friend was getting married and I was his best man, his hotel suite had it provided by the hotel.
If you are so addicted to coffee, that you will drink something that came out of an animals butt, you are seriously screwed up in the head, and need to be institutionalized. THAT IS NASTY.
PETA must be kissing the asses of those responsible for the poor cats' lives. They must be receiving their free coffee from those offenders every month.
To be honest it isnt really any worse than many western zoos or animal parks. They should get bigger enclosures ofcourse and get walked on a leash if possible. Ideally not get captured atall, but you cannot realistically expect some rural indonesians to give up such a lucrative business oppurtunity.
You can if stupid tourists are made aware of the suffering involved and stop buying this coffee. Indonesians never drink this $hit (literally). Even the rich Indonesians prefer the high quality beans that are hand picked from the higher elevations in Sumatra and Java and the cost is ten times less.
Would I try it? Yes. Would I pay for it? No. Would I open my door to a civet rights activist? No, but I would offer them a cup of coffee that didn't come out of an animal's rear end.
I do not condone any caged animal farming. I do not buy any such products and I loathe the individuals who participate in this kind of animal slavery, they shold be locked up themselves to see how they like to live like that!
Is Luwak the best 'coffee'? Depends on your pallette. Is it animal cruelty? You can say so, but trust me when I say that chicken, cows and sheeps treated worse all around the world.
And like the fur trade. They don't even have the decency to put the animals down before they start skinning them. If you're gonna wear, eat or drink coffee produced from animals look into how the animals are treated. There's a reason I only eat meat we hunt and kill ourselves and eat local farm fresh eggs I get my neighbor.
Real Kopi Luwak are harvested from wild civet cat poop, because civet cat only eat the beast coffee bean (that's why the real one are so tasty), while "Farmed kopi luwak" are just a civet cad feed by tons of coffee beans (doesn't matter what it is) and it taste terrible, you're getting scammed if you pay more than $10 for a 100 grams of farmed kopi luwak beans.
Hi. I believe this is the same poor animal they used (some still do I think) to "milk" for an ingredient in expensive perfumes. I wonder how they are treated in that situation? Good report.
These animals should be in the wild that is why the coffee is expensive because they should be picking up poo of the civet cats in the wild literally looking for the poop and civet cats should be harvesting the beans themselves coz they only eat the best beans from the coffee tree. They are not for the cage for business
just think about this why would someone randomly think oh imma feed this cat thing and then make coffee of it poop like who in the world thinks that?! XD
I've seen the condition of civet cats in Bali, and let me tell you- they're MISERABLE. The cats are kept in little cages, with no space to move around. They cannot also stand up, as their heads touch the roof. It is pathetic.
Think that is easy? Maybe in another country you can buy an island, but in Indonesia you can't. And not easy to choose the ideal place to plant the coffee trees ...
If the westerners r nt tht crazy with this coffee.. I dnt think Asia will produce it... So dnt blame them, blame the consumers, ur fellow country people, dipshit.
I mean.. who founded the kopi luwak?, something tells me someone who found it drop a bunch of poop at their coffee, it's from my country, and i never tasted it, because i'm not gonna spend $90 on a coffee I know it has a process and is not fresh poop
In Vietnam, I drank Vietnamese Coffee that had aroma and taste like Coffee with Cardamom. So I suppose Cat Poop Coffee should smell and taste like Cat Poop, otherwise, what is the use of drinking that coffee? I suggest that one should swallow 50 or 100 grams of Coffee Beans, that is exactly what the Thai people do to Elephants to produce Ivory Coffee. Next morning the swallowed Beans would have acquired the taste and the aroma of one's food and beverage intake. The excreted Beans should be washed and dried in a Microwave, ground and Voila, one has the unique coffee of one's own.
Back then when deutch invade indonesia. Indigenous cant afford coffe because deutch rule and also coffe is only for rich and ruler so they find way, so they drink coffe from moongose poop since moongose eat coffe bean.
an inaccurate assessment, because civet coffee should be compared with similar coffee with the same variety and altitude ,, the taste of robusta civet coffee is different from civet arabica coffee ,,, Kintamani bali arabica civet coffee is different from mandhailing civet coffee, is different from luwak gayo coffee ,,, there are many factors about the type of coffee that the civet eats ,,, generally the luwak will eat the best and ripe coffee from the tree.
So its like You talking to me they forcing them to eat the coffee all the day. And they just going to take the poop and then making it a super expensive coffee. Wooww, now i guess my cat would be usefull.
