You should watch some of her practice sessions with the 4 piece band. She gets bored and will joke with grandmother in between singing the lines, making faces and laughing.. Or she makes fun of uncle playing with his hair.. The band keeps it straight till they finish, then they bust out laughing.
She calls those little changes her wishes... And she always does that very politely. And yes, she never go 100% unless you see her took off those shoes.☺️

Cliff, this ist the Brassband of the Norwegian Army. They presented AJ with their project of a charity album (IT´S Magic) on her 12th birthday January 10th 2018 asking her and her family if she liked to participate, because it was their 200th anniversary and, this seems to be not a joke, Norway has declared Angelina Jordan Astar a National Treasure. Now you can understand why musicians in Scandinavia nicknamed her adoringly THE BOSS. AJ has such a feeling for how a piece of music should be played, that today musician all over the world, yes even in Korea and Japan, respect her tremendously.
The recording of that album happened in the autumn of 2017 when Angelina was 11 and had nothing to do with her 12th birthday. On her birthday she was invited to a surprise "tea and cake session" but all recording was already done. During the spring of 2018 she again rehearsed with the band in preperation for their "bicentennial album launch concert" that took place in June.
From what I understand is that any changes that she requests are known as her "wishes" . IMO, you are right in the fact that she knows how the song to be heard this improving the music played by the musicians as well. We even get a glimpse of this before the music even starts on the black and white version of "I put a spell on you" and the band director smiles back at her; when she was 9 and 2 months old. It looks like to me she even wrote out those those changes while keeping time on the paper with the pencil or pen she was writing with. An amazing individual.
Yes it is the Norwegian armed Force band. They played together on “Magic”. She is not always playing with them. She has played with something of the best jazz musicians in Norway and also with KORK Norwegian radio orchestra. Now in LA I don’t know the names. In her earlier covers she used guitarists and Alan Papier has them interviewed- very interesting to here how these covers came to.
Yes, Alan Papier has interviewed Angelina’s guitarists. Egil Clausen played for AJ early on in Norway. Ivan Mendez “auditioned” for Angelina and became her guitarist when she and the family moved to LA. The two separate videos are fascinating... about twenty minutes long each. Search for Alan Papier on RU-vid; you’ll find them. 😉
Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Norways largest professional military band). This is not so much a question of "correcting" as it is sorting out details, between soloist and band. Typical rehearsal, that's what they are for...
The band is all professional, as Angelina is. She was invited in on the bands 200 anniversary project, to do the vokals on an album and at their celebration consert in 2018. Clearly Angelina got a major opportunity by this, to get an album out, by no further commitments (other than the consert of course). It surely was a velcoming win-win situation to both parts. Even as Angelina became the big star of the show, I am quite convinced the band got at least dobbeled attention on their 200 years anniversary. And Angelina had a great expeariance at 11, cooperating with a big orcerstra/band both in making an album and a major consert.
Angelina speaks four languages. She is the youngest Norwegian citizen, (nine years old) to have written a book and have it published. She writes, arranges and composes her own songs. She writes the arrangements to the cover songs she sings. She won Norway’s Got Talent at seven years old. Angelina Jordan is a bona fide musical genius.
Pretty sure this is the Norwegian Armed forces band in rehearsal. She performed this song live with this band in 2018 in Oslo and is one of the songs on her Album "It's Magic" with this band. You can see her fidgeting when they are playing something she doesn't like. Many of her videos show her reading off her phone or iPad. But that OK because she probably read the lyrics on the way there in the car and knows what she wants. The rehearsals are for the musicians not her.
Maybe she was learning the songs en route to a rehearsal - or during one, as may have been the case here? And I mean the lyrics *and* the music. Or perhaps, as English isn’t her first language, she sometimes needs to study the pronunciation of English lyrics? (It just occurred to me that I’ve never heard her speak the language, such as in an interview, but I know she does speak it.) I got good grades in school - except for the one I got for music class. I’m talking an “Intro to,” nothing-could-have-been-more-basic, Music for Dummies music class! I only squeaked out a passing grade by memorizing the names of symbols & the meaning of terms, all of which I’d forgotten a week after the final. I couldn’t even *begin* to grasp how to read sheet music, and am to this day in awe of those who can!!
Reading the lyrics insures fewer takes. Especially when 24+ people are hired for the session. Other engineers have stated she bangs out songs in 1 or 2 takes.

It's apparent that all the adult professional musicians Angelina has worked with give her immense respect, even when she was 8 years old. Like you said talent knows talent even when it comes in a small package.

She is not correcting the orchestra; she is telling them the way she wants it to sound and she knows that will make it perfect. This orchestra always sounds perfect, just needs a little critiquing once in a while. Angelina is always an artist of music.
This is the royal Norwegian military band. It was a surprise 12 birthday present for Angelina to perform with this band. It culminated in a live performance and the production of a CD called "It's Magic".
She also plays 4 instruments. I just read recently that she was working with a band one time and stopped and said one of the instruments was out of tune. He corrected it and they went on. She sings with the Norway Army band, but she also sings with another Norwegian orchestra, KORK.

Angelina is 12 here, and the band is the Norwegian Army Band that she made her 1st Album with “It’s Magic” After several attempts I was able to receive a copy from Amazon. It’s very well mixed, and sounds great.

The thing in the foreground is called a "snake". Think of it as an extension cord for multiple microphones. Angelina's mic is plugged into it, and its cable runs over to the sound board. This is the first video, rehearsal or not, that I've seen where she wasn't barefoot!
About the "fog machine" - it is obviously cold weather (boots, sweaters) and the heating probably dries the air to the detriment of the instruments and player sinuses. Likely that is a steam humidifier.
She does one or two takes only. The second take is because of a band error. She reads the lyrics and sings for first time. She makes few if any errors. Absolutely unbelievable.
It sure sounded better the second time. That's all I have to say about it. I am shaking my head and laughing out loud 😂. Well chuckling heartily anyway at the situation. If you have ever watched Michael Jackson's This is It , it was almost the same thing in one scene but less attitude with Angelina. Great one again Cliff.
She’s the boss, but she’s not bossy, there’s mutual respect all around, and yes, even at her age the professional musicians respect her input and wishes! This is the Norwegian Armed Forces Band that she made the album “It’s Magic” with, they also performed the concert together based upon these rehearsals. By the way, even though they practiced together, she blew the band away when the did the live performance.
Impresses me that on the first run thro, when the band missed her key change, she STILL continued to sing in the new key, all correctly, while the band was a tone or semitone below her. Very difficult to do, even for seasoned pro singers.
It's nice to hear somone understanding what is going on in the workshop. This conducter and mucisians like/admirar her. See par exemple when she sings It's a mans world on stage with them. Did the conducter originaly invited her for cooperation? I get that impression from other clips.
It could be the Oslo Marine Band .. which she sings with a lot. They give her standing ovations (see ITS A MAN'S WORLD) and applaud her always .. in short .. they love her. oh .. P.S. very few people give 100% at rehearsals.
I like your reaction more than most, you understand the process of musicians working together for the best outcome. I saw one video of her doing the actual recording in a different room from the band which makes sense even to a non musician like myself. The album of her singing with this band is very well done. Her talent is obvious, but her humanity and generosity make her an important person.
Her hair arrangement surprises me, given the rest of her outfit, and boots. Did she just stop in here on her way to another appearance where there's a change room, I'm guessing?

European kids are taught to be polite and empathetic. If you notice she's usually wearing flowers in her hair. In some cultures young girls wear flowers to show they are maidens and off limits. This is the same Norwegian Army Band she's made an album with. The same band where she performed "It's a Man's World"
The band is accompanying her not the other way around. I get it that egos can be hurt but for perfection, you need to put it aside and listen to the singer.
I don't think this a 'correction' but a change in the arrangement to Angelina's taste. There's another upload out there that shows her correcting a pianist not just with words but by showing him how she wants it played by playing the piano herself.

This is when/where they fine tune the performance; synchronizing a full orchestra and solo singer takes a bit of work. I still don't get people being astounded by the fact that she references the lyrics (on her phone or paper) while singing. If singers waited until they had fully memorized their songs before they ever actually sang them, there would be a lot less music in the world.

This is Popeye, saying I agree she does like Elvis did, he never blamed anyone if something went wrong. They are professional enough to know who they are and don't need to be pointed out, allowing them to maintain high dignity. Always so strange to see Angelina wearing shoes while singing. Yes it is a rehearsal but it is still strange. Don't get in the way of Angelina and her music the way she wants it or she will humbly and politely persuade you to her way of thinking.
