in the book, anathema is afraid to get in the car with them until crowley says "get in, angel." and she's like "oooohh yeah i'm gonna be fine," like, she gets it.
Do you mean posher? Or some Scottish comes through? If someone is speaking in their native language/accent (the character, not the actor), I don’t think their accent can really get stronger or weaker. A ‘stronger’ Scottish accent is used to mean one sounding more different from received pronunciation (the British accent both characters are speaking in). Whether or not it is right to designate rp the assumed standard British accent is another matter.
The fact that Neil Gaiman and both David and Micheal have confirmed that Good Omens is a love story just makes me so so happy. I can’t wait to see what happens to my favorite gay asexual supernatural beings in season 2
I was today years old when I found out what that quote was about. The way it's used in media and everyday life I just dismissed it as some pretentious shite. Your comment literally turned on the lightbulb for me. Makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much!
@@ReneGrays Yeah it’s way more complex than people realize, cause a lot of it is euphemism and a lot of it requires the context of the religious views of the time. In Hamlet’s religion, _ghosts don’t exist_ which is why he’s so torn between it being the real ghost of his father or a hallucination. He can’t kill a man over a hallucination, but if the ghost is real, then 1. Well shit his Uncle killed his Dad 2. Double shit, my religion is wrong To Be Or Not To Be is basically him contemplating unaliving himself, which in his religion is a sin, I think? But anyway he’s saying “What if nothing happens after death? Or worse what if I go to hell?”
@@DeathnoteBB I am a month late but yes that’s essentially it. He later decides that the biggest reason people still push through the spears of life is because no one actually knows what’s after death, which is especially deep given that his religion relies on Heaven and Hell after death. I think that’s yet another layer of his religious doubts like you brought up before.
Let’s talk about the fact that angels/ demons chose their own bodies and they could have been easily ripped af 25 years old (like Gabriel) but instead azi really said “dad bod it is” and Crowley said “HAH IMMA DILF”
Nonono aziraphale is pudgy and also sassy (so better than Gabriel) AND CROWLEY IS LITERALLY BASICALLY A TUMBLR SEXYMAN. TALL, LANKY, SKINNY, HES LITERALLY.
@@lucass5593 Not Quite, no. Aziraphale doesn't have his head laid on Crowleys shoulder, if you look closely you can see, that he only has his head tilted, and Crowleys shoulder is moved backwards a little bit. But as Neil confirmed, that it's a love story, it really is likely. :)
Crowley has always be in love with aziraphale but that moment when he saves aziraphales books thats when aziraphale realised he was in love with crowley.
Someone on Tumblr said how it probably wasn’t even a threat, if the world had gone to shit, they’d most likely not be allowed to see each other after all they did. He was saying “Think of something or we’ll never see each other again!”
I wanna say that in a published script of the book, the narrative directions are from Crowley's pov and they say something like, "Out of everything, that one hurt."
The fact that Crowley is genuinely hurt and kinda scared of that but he’s completely calm when almost all of heaven and hell wants him dead is so funny to me for some reason
I think my favorite bit is when David says “I lost my best friend” in tears and Michael says “sorry to hear it” like he doesn’t want to assume he’s talking about him.
@Tara Allen One of my biggest pet peeves! I'm always happy for gay storylines but why do the men always get bitter endings? I'd love to see a Western show where the MCs are male and they fall in love and live happily ever after
@@junejj2127I watched the entirety of Buffy where no one in any kind of relationship gets a happy ending. This is just normal to me, shit with happy relationships in the end are the weird ones.
As an ace individual, this was the best romance ive ever seen with no smut and I really don't feel bothered by the fact that the two of them don't outright address it because they just know and accept each other after several thousand years. Also they're magical beings and their communication is probably very different. Idk I loved the show and felt like it was very obvious that the two of them were an item the whole way through (just my thoughts though)
As an ace, I 100% agree. Although, I hope it’ll be expressed clearly next season that they are in love, so that my mom stops aggressively calling them “close friends.” 😂🥲
For anyone complaining about queer baiting, ace people are part of the lgbtq community and you can be ace and still have romantic attraction to others!
Yes! thank you! Also, I want to add that Neil Gaiman puts a lot of love and care into his work, so it's not just some corporate trash that's trying to appeal to the teens. These characters have been around for years. And he's made it clear that Angel and Crowley love each other. That love does not need to be made physical, it's real and it's intimate on an emotional level.
i see where u goin but i lowkey imagined crowley wbbling his tongue in the air behind zira when he's not paying attention, but pls imagine a very derpy look on crowley's face. that's it. sorry
Idk what everyone is talking about. These two confessed their love when they were willing to switch places and face their own 'hell' to save the other. If they were found out, they would have both been destroyed. Love doesn't have to be about sex. It can also be two beings loving each other for all time and beyond. I'm so excited for the second season.
Considering one is an angel and has not received love in the way one would on earth, while the other is a demon who certainly never got any good attention in hell...why would they come out and say I love you so soon? It could be a few millennium for it to happen. Geez.
@@user-2012July-A Aziraphel: You go too fast for me Crowley The fandom: BUT WHY DON’T THEY SAY THEY’RE GAY Not to mention they’re both basically under an oppressive system that for all they know is always watching. Not explicitly saying they’re deeply in love would have happened regardless of genders.
when aziraphale is disguised as crowley and is being tried, he guesses that his punishment will be eternity in the deepest pit. he was literally willing to be punished for all eternity for crowley
Hello Straight man here, asked all my straight friends and we all agreed that these two are gayer for each other than companies during pride😂 (So turns out I found out I’m Bi a few months ago now so I’m afraid the study is now incomplete lol)
Can't wait for the "have you ever heard about healthy male friendships" and the "they're just friends" folks to go and watch Season 2 (specifically the ending) ❤
Yeah no, these two are gay for each other, one thing is having a best bud you're happy to see and be with, another is giving love eyes when the other isn't looking XDDDD.
@@jackmesrel4933 This show is just lighthearted, silly comedy to me, cause if you would look at this more serious, then all the flaws would be so apparent. The creators did not take a deep dive into theology and spirituality, but if we would argue from that point, then right in the first episode the messed up. They really brought up this apple crap, even though scripture says nothing about an apple. Thats just how art portrays it and people who dont know that, think its written that way. Also demons and angels have no sexuality or even sexes. Crowleys argument for why he thinks either side shouldnt be worked for is totally pointless too and they portraied heavens agenda totally wrong. But hey...its just entertainment....and thats exactly why these 2 fictional characters cease to exist when the camera goes off and nobody every really was gay here.
Currently cracking up at the fact that my initial reasoning for not getting into this fandom, despite thinking these two were cute as fuck, was “oh, they’re already married, I need my pining” LIKE BITCH THERES 6000 YEARS OF PINING OMFG I’M STUPID
this is gold because i legit refrained from wathcing the show bc id heard from so many people that the romance was 1) a lot of pining and 2) tragic (this was after season 2 so) and went "HELL nah, two immortal beings pining after each other for millenia and then it ends tragic? NU-Uh i just got thru bbc merlins heartbreak i am NOT doing this to myself" and then a friend watched it and i went "well maybee" and gave it a go and BAM new interest
I don't think that Crowley and Aziraphale have the sort of "love" relationship that can be defined by a simple concept like romantic love or friendship love or even familial love. There is a kind of transcendent love that reaches so far beyond those frankly shallow , two dimensional definitions of what love is or what love can be. It is what makes these characters so interesting and dynamic. They LOVE each other beyond all reason. Regardless of the circumstances, no matter what they may have at stake, they are THERE for one another. They are as true as soul mates, and loyal as brothers, and as pure as first loves but all at the same time. It's love in its purest and truest form. It's beautiful.
This is the only reason why I dislike the hype of them getting a kiss scene. Their love for one another is beyond regular human concepts. They love one another, but not in a way that would be shown through that kind of affection, in my opinion.
Yes, exactly! As an aromantic person, I enjoy it so much, because I feel like it's one of the few love stories where I can see it from the same angle as everyone else. None of us quite understand it, because we're human and they aren't, but also we all understand it, because it's the purest form of love/affect.
SO MANY DW REFERENCES - SID RAT IS ADAM'S DAD'S NUMBERPLATE (TARDIS BACKWARDS), GALLIFREY IN THE LIST OF PLANETS CROWLEY LOOKS AT, A DALEK IN THE BOOKS AAAH I LOVE THEM
Cant forget when aziraphale says “I like pears” and the fact they went to Shakespearien time with the same place they filmed the Shakespeare code episode
i love that crowley takes the book from the book shop as a souvenir from the day he lost his "best friend", like "imma just take this to remember me the most pain that i felt in 6 thousand years"
9:02 To each their own opinion, but I truly despise this being lumped in with other instances of queerbaiting and what have you. Even in the books, Azirapale and Crowley are like this, and being familiar with almost every single one of Neil Gaiman's books, I wholeheartedly believe that this was intended as a love story from the beginning(at least to Gaiman, I dont know about Pratchett). I mean, YEARS ago, in his Sandman comics, Gaiman had nonbinary characters. Even in THIS, it is shown that Crowley doesn't have a gender and the same can be said for Aziraphale. For every instance in this video, and comments from Gaiman and the actors themselves, Aziraphale and Crowley are canonly in the deepest love imaginable. What makes it queerbaiting? That they don't kiss? I think what's hard for people to grasp is that as immortal genderless ethereal/occult beings, their love isn't a physical, explicitly sexual love and a lot of people can't grasp that you can romantically love someone without it. Sure, people claim that's an excuse, and say Gaiman didn't have to play by those rules, but as someone who themselves doesn't have any desire for a physical relationship, their relationship means EVERYTHING to me and it has for a LONG time. I think that aspect of their love comes through strongly in the book too.
yeah i get that, i’m sorry. i’m just kinda sensitive to it. i really don’t need them to kiss or anything, the line by the other angel that i was commenting on just kinda reminds me of how shows keep joking abt romantic feelings between characters but never making anything explicit. i don’t need them to be psysical in any way but i’d still like a very clear statement that their relationship is not platonic. just because in these matters the general public often believe the relationship to be platonic if not very clearly stated.
@@endtitles2588 yeah, no I totally get it and your opinion is still totally valid. My sister is right there with you and I DO hope they have a kind of more outright "I love you" in the next season theyre supposed to be making But I'm still really happy with their relationship and I stan the way all the side characters automatically go "oh, you're together 👀" bc they 100% are lmao
As OP stated I think what bothers people is that any attempts to explore their relationship on a deeper level is usually brushed off in the show. There's probably so many interesting and maybe even comedic ways to cover the idea of supernatural beings being in love in ways that would appear unconventional and unusual to human beings and having little moment where the word 'boyfriend' gets mentioned but not questioned or addressed feels a liittle like dangling a carrot on a stick i feel? 🤔 I'd love love to instead see a proper, blatant onscreen confirmation that they have a strong love for each other that may not be either physical or sexual if that's what Gaiman actually wants to do with the characters.
Hi I just wanna say right now that I’d like a confirmation too but it’s not queerbaiting rn, not safe to say so, however… Wait and see, wait and see. Oh listen Neil we’ll wait and see. And once we see, we’ll call him out on it. I myself never really trusted him so maybe I’m biased but honestly if it doesn’t go anywhere it’ll be like the textbook definition of queerbaiting. Once it happens and I still held out hope I’ll pretty well know I deserved it because of that. So wait and see I guess.
YES YES YES THIS IS THE THING. I'm a Genderfluid AroAce and they represent me so much. Everything about their love shines in the best way possible and they give me so much joy because it's the kind of love I really want to see in the world and in shows.
i'm asexual. all of my attempts at romance have been utter failures - i don't like them how i think i should, i get scared of what they'll inevitably want from me, or we try and i freak out and it goes up in flames. i literally couldn't kiss my best friend because it "felt gross" 💀 but good omens tells me i can have something like this, tells me i can love and be loved because what i see is a romance that doesn't need sex and i feel less alone. i relate so hard to this sort of unspoken love, something casual and friendly but unfathomably deep and meaningful at the same time. i really hope they admit their feelings before the show wraps up, because it would mean a lot to me and so many other people.
What you described is my experience as an asexual person too! My jaw is on the floor. I don’t interact with asexual people often so I’ve never heard this spoken out loud. I didn’t realize these things might be because of my asexuality. That’s why i love this show tho & i’m SO looking forward to season 2 !!
Yay more asexuals!!! But yes it’s a struggle :(( I’m biromantic (bisexual asexual) and I’ve dated quite a few people the first I have no idea is she was asexual or not, the second they were asexual and the last they weren’t that interested but not necessarily asexual. Now lemmie tell you, I am TERRIFIED of dating someone that isn’t asexual because it gives me mad anxiety about if they’d want to partake in sexual activities or not ;-; that’s more reasons my last relationship didn’t really work out T^T” lots of anxiety. Being asexual is just- it’s a struggle especially when people don’t consider you apart of the community but it’s great to find people that actually relate
You know I always wondered why the other angels didn't like Aziraphale (besides the obvious reason for hanging out with a demon) and it's because Aziraphale enjoys the simple things much like a human does. Food, alcohol, plays, music, books, and even dancing. He is literally the only angel that knows how to dance I mean how precious is that? 😭 and his obsession with food is freaking adorable
Aziraphale: 10:23 *waves sword* Crowley: You gunna stab me with that or... Aziraphale: OR I'll never talk to you again! Crowley: I'd rather get stabbed. Ps: I have now watched said show.
It’s really sweet how Aziraphale was genuinely kind to Crowley when first meeting him. Just cuz they’re on opposing sides doesn’t mean they can’t be civil with each other and I’m sure Crowley believed the same thing
3:25 "You know, if you lined up everyone in the whole world and asked them to describe the Velvet Underground, nobody _at all_ would say Bebop" Me: *WELL NOW WE WILL*
There's a song called Good Old-fashioned Lover Boy by Queen with the lyrics "Dining at the Ritz we'll meet at nine (precisely)". So it's possible that their meeting in the end of the series was a reference to this song as well. At least I like to think so
We're gonna get more Queen in series 2 and we already had You're My Best Friend and Somebody to Love in series 1. Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy has to be series 2. It just has to be.
I just made a TikTok talking about that and how it's NOT in the show AT ALL. This is their ANTHEM...and Crowley's Bentley LOVES Queen!! THEY HAD SO MANY CHANCES!! THEY PLAYED "SOMEBODY TO LOVE"!!!!
There are 35,581 fanfics of these two just on Archive of our own. I got so curious to see if there were fanfics. So anyone want to read them, well there is A LOT to choose from lol
Seeing David Tennant in anything makes me so damn happy because I grew up watching doctor who and I love this man sm. Good Omens is a fucking blessing and I love these boys.
I agree completely, it exudes so much love and it's a beautiful story in its own right. Representation is very important, but I don't think that means every love story we see from now on has to have an explicit declaration of what type of love the characters have for each other at the expense of storytelling. Queer representation is about representing the nuances and diversity of queer experience, and it doesn't become invalid if a viewer's expectations of a relationship aren't met; in Good Omens it's made very clear that Aziraphale doesn't like women and while it's obvious that they love Crowley, it shouldn't matter whether they're explicitly 'dating' or not. If the characters and the creators aren't denying how much they love each other, and they certainly don't here, then it's not queerbaiting, it's just subtle storytelling. Besides, by not specifically labelling their love as platonic, romantic, queer-romantic or sexual, Good Omens becomes a story that doesn't exclude anyone and is an accessible love story for anyone who wants to watch it.
@@sophieroselle Seriously! Love language is important and Azi and Crowley have their own versions. Yes, I read and write fanfiction where they confess their love to each other straight up and its wonderful but we don't need that in canon. "You're too fast for me" and "To the world." is enough for me. They say volumes that I love you simply can't. And if I must quote Ten here. "Does it really need to be said?" (Which is a stupid question yes it does you anger me she NEEDED YOU TO SAY IT NOT TRY AND BE CLEVER AND ALL I LOVE YOU AND HATE YOU)
Why are people calling the people they date "friends" ...thats not what friend means. A real friend is someone you really dont have any romantic feelings for. The moment you do, then you want to be more than friends....so you are not dating a friend.
I absolutely love the book and I adore both of their personality and relationship together. I mean, I'm a hardcore fan about Good Omens and this is hell of a casting choice. Because they both are clearly born to play those roles and their chemistry together (onscreen and off screen) is amazing. I must tell you, Good Omens is the most awesome, most accurate book adaptation I've ever seen! And Neil Gaiman said, there will be second season, yay!
"...seducing women to do your evil will..." "Oh, I think perhaps you've the wrong shop." Aziraphale (thinking): I'm seducing a demon to do my good will. Good Lord.
