I own a sailboat and it has a small diesel imboard I have never piloted a motor boat is it more difficult ? some of these things just seem so basic to me
Red shirt is a serious contender for a Darwin Award. When he didn't slip into the prop he looked determined to lose a hand or at least a few fingers between the boat and the trailer or with the winch.
“Missy Elliott would’ve flipped it and reversed it“. I nearly spit out my drink! Absolutely, hilarious! You’re like the Bob Ross of boat commentary. I absolutely love this channel and I don’t own a boat, I’ve never owned a boat, don’t want to own a boat.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people purchase a boat just because they can, but have no idea on how to operate it safely. Most people don’t bother to take any boater safety courses because they think they know it all. They think “HOW HARD CAN IT BE?” At my local lake yesterday I seen a guy almost rip his wife’s arm completely off when he threw it into reverse. She had the front tie line wrapped around her arm about four times, and he was coming in way too fast so he threw it in reverse and dragged her half way across the dock while almost ripping her shoulder out of her socket. Pulled her 10 feet across the dock and completely into the water. Make sure you’re absolutely comfortable with everything on any boat you’ll be operating. Take a boater operators safety course and practice, practice, practice. Go to a dock that’s not busy and keep practicing until you feel comfortable with launching and docking. Don’t try to become familiar with everything you need to know in one day. This has led to many people being severely injured and killed.
This is why Boater Safety is required in New York now. Too many idiots where common sense does not prevail. And then you have the old timers saying 'We don't need to be told to wear a pfd, have safety chains.. blah blah blah.. back in my day...."
I recently found your channel. I lived in that area for 10 years! I was not raised around boats, like my husband was. When we purchased our first boat, he made the kids and me attend a 6 wk. safe boating class. Before we even pull up to a dock for unloading, bumpers and ropes are attached. Same putting the boat in the water!
@@CreditCardCaptain thank you! See lots of things that drive me crazy. Leaving swim ladders down, not using fenders, or not taking them off when underway. Having lines ready already on the boat cleats, when using the docks. Watching people throw a line to someone on the dock, and not using posts as pulley system to pull boat closer to dock. Instead they stand there with the lines in their hands.
@@pamtanner516 Training courses are life savers. But as we all know, it's a "free" country, and ppl dont have to attend. Perhaps courses in public schools would be a nice addition.
Red shirt guy is like so many others who ignore putting themselves in harms way. Yeah he is still alive despite being ‘unconscious’ of hazards around him his entire life….. me I use caution yet still nearly killed in construction job!
I just ordered my first boat and finished my State's Boater Safety course. I appreciate all the "How NOT to do it" videos you post, I am learning a lot and by the time I actually get my boat in May 2023 I think I may even be able to avoid some of the stupid Captain stuff I see here.
Whew. We were all beginners sometime, it’s true. But…well, even a beginner generally knows you don’t back a boat onto a trailer! LOL Anyway, great commentary here-I genuinely laughed out loud a few times.
@@justincasey_grabbederpussy6756 Too funny, but I have to wonde5r what side you're on? Scratch that, it's a funny joke, no need to state affiliations! 😁👍✌
Keep the advice coming , Captain. There are those of us who appreciate the tips ( and you have a perfect video showing "See, that's why you don't do it that way".
I like the fact that you do your critiquing and commentary as a voiceover rather than on-scene. Results in a lot less frustration, anger, and hurt feelings from people who are already struggling with the boat ramp. New subscriber and first video, so I hope you continued this format. Guess I'll find out. 😂
I'm not sure why RU-vid brought me here. This loading was painful. I mean, that's not even first day with a boat bad - that's full on we-todd-it behavior. Or alcohol. Or both. Thank you CCC for 13 minutes of entertainment.
This is a good video to show any captain or boat operator class. What not to do when boating. Oh and another tip you could add to the overwhelming amount of tips, get some real dock lines. He is using sail line to tie off at the dock. Which is easy, until you have a stiff wind and chop working against the dock. That's when using sail lines will get sporty.
New subscriber here, and all I can say is WOW!! I thought I'd seen some crap docking and loading at the local ramp, and on video of the Blackpoint ramps... but this ramp takes the GRAND PRIZE!!
Looks like the first time I ever pulled a boat into a marina. I didn't hit anything but over 20 years on the key, every time I'd run into the dockhand he'd laugh and reminisce that day.
Bro I’m sayin!! It’s not a matter of if, it’s when he will succeed in striking disaster, he will either sink his boat for obvious reasons or hurt someone badly or both!
Allowed? Gimme a break. They're adults. Government isn't run by magic smart people that are capable of lording over us all like children. Take the damn warning labels off everything and let the problem sort itself out.
@@notsure7874 Just like a car. You just can't buy a car and drive off with it. you need a license to drive. A boaters license that you only need to do once in a lifetime is not a bad idea. too many people out on the water that have no idea what they are doing, crashing into object left and right. If you owned a dock/Launch and you had costumers crashing into it all the time you will be mad because then you will have to fix the dock every so often. Just because you personally don't have to deal with bad boaters doesn't other people don't. I feel bad for dock owners because of that
@@notsure7874 and I feel bad for all the other experienced boaters that have do deal with it as well. People with 0 experience in boating will of out on the water during prime time and expect to do things right. when I first started boating I practiced very early in the morning and late during the day so I don't crash into anything. after a few weeks I mastered boating and going on the 8th year of being a watercraft owner. people are not smart enough. that's why we get to watch videos like this. at least we get to enjoy that.
@@ManCaverTools lol look at all the licenses people have and can't drive for anything. You don't need a licence to travel in a car truck ect. By the way. If you look closely what a licence is you will see its a commercial drivers license. I didn't know someone was conducting commercial taking their kids to soccer practice.... It's a class D CDL. Why you need one of those hmmm? Money. It's another tax.
I used to fish the S.Louisiana waterways & I went alone most the time..... lol, it forces you to get well organized & have a well thought out game plan that does not make all the other boats wait on you. You NEVER park at the ramp while fooling around. You best park to the side, go to retrieve the trailer, get it in the water at the ramp, & then get your boat on the trailer. Be efficient in every step and I did so faster than lots of pairs can load up. But after doing it alone 4-5 times, you'd be surprised how good you get. You have no one else to blame & you get super organized ; but still people ought to offer help to others. Really, you see they need help = offer it ? It always feels good to see help being given..... I've needed it & glad someone offered it. Damn straight. peace Captain CC
I'm almost embarrassed for these dumbF#@K'ers..... WoW, they all just need another drink !! Seriously, it's O'beer'30 and they are all in need of their Union Break >> > I could barely sit here watching these lost boys
great video and narration! first time watching. I will say at about 1:21 you say when someone has a line it's time to shut it down but I never shut it down until you know you have a couple cleats tied off as you don't know if you'll need to put an engine in gear anytime before you're secure on the dock. New subscriber!
No doubt this captain could use some training, but you should not shut the engine off (down, as you said a couple times) until the boat is secured at the dock. Not just when someone on the dock has your dock lines.
"Garage kept, just needs a little bit of work" Left out the "$25,000, no title, doesn't come with trailer, soft spot on transom, floor needs replaced - like new."
Captain rooster's bilge pump was pretty active. And it's funny that he was throttle happy when it wasn't warranted, but wouldn't throttle up enough to get it up onto the trailer.
Worked in the STEM fields all my life and have always had a boat to play with. There's Two kinds of people who own Boats, those who can afford it and those who know the pointy end from the stern. You always seem to see someone in "over their heads" w/ a BFB (big fat boat) and those who make a day of logistics look easy. Boats take Much more maintenance and skill to operate Safely than most cars do. I required people to learn a couple basic knots, a Bowline and Half Hitch, and that they have a basic knowledge and feel for running the boat in fwd or reverse. Whoever had a Fish-On was in charge and if it was me I wanted people to be able to take the helm, trim the motor, lock in and start or disconnect the Trolling motor and if you could run a downrigger and/or the Depth sounder, that got you Extra Points. 🤗
It seems most of these utterly incompetent boat owners don't realize that idle speed is a legitimate throttle setting around docks. They use the throttles like its a binary thing - either flat out or in neutral. But then again, that's only the beginning of their stupidity. Most of them should be on a leash or else weaving baskets in a sheltered workshop.
So many think because they can drive a car they can pilot a boat. And these beginners - yes, everyone's a beginner some time, but some beginners refuse to listen to experienced boaters. Like you, I rarely bother giving advice now unless I get asked for it, or they are putting my boat at risk. Then I don't just give advice. I shout it!
People that bought Four Winns and Cobalts in the 80’s, were those that had bought cheaper boats to start and see exactly what they needed, and learned how to handle a boat, then bought these. I never saw one of these boats operated in such a manor. If the original owner is watching this, he’s probably crying!
The only problem I have at the ramp is getting my wife to understand the boat needs to come off the trailer. I only let her help launch, so I give her the lines and the boat comes off the trailer. She then pulls it back onto the trailer, I tell her to pull it back and she pulls it further forward. Every time! We've done it many times, every time it's a new experience for her. I can solo launch, but I'm always hoping this time will be different.
Reminds me of the time I launched my 22' sailboat in 20KTS of wind. Dad didn't tie off to the cleat and the engine died just as we came off the dock. I had to jump onto the dock before we got out of range and pull the boat in before it hit the rocks... Gosh that was exciting!
Wow, That was painful to watch! 😆 Love your vids bud. I kinda chuckle sometimes when launching one of my boats thinking “don’t end up on one of Credit Card Captains videos”! You wanna have some real fun? Come over to Crystal River or Homosassa at the start of scallop season! More bad boater footage than you can shake a stick at! Good work brother! Keep ‘em coming!
The first thing an new boat owner must master is putting the boat on the trailer along with backing up the trailer into the water at the landing. PRACTICE
I'm thinking new boater on a paupers budget that's why the boat looks like it's been used as a seagull/Pidgeon roost for a decade or two. The "mates" aren't exactly salty boaters either. Fun to watch tho. I could see that winch strap issue coming as soon as he hooked it with a "Full twist"! Ha ha.
I wish you could interview some of these people so we could understand what they were trying to achieve...because sometimes I just can't figure it out .
Ive launched at that ramp many times and the current can rip there and windy also. It can be tricky if ur not an avide or experienced boater. People really fight to load they're boats there it is entertaining for sure lol. But the only way to learn is experience and practice
The seal is likely gone on his bell crank. I've had this happen before, the shifting mechanism fills up with sediment making it extremely hard to select gears, you often over rev before it even goes into gear.
Wow these people put their selves in so many bad positions. Standing back by the prop, Powering the boat when you got someone in between the bow and the trailer. This could have so easily gone bad. That woman made a comment that we are all beginners at one time, but even as a beginner a little common sense goes a long way.
