Not a translation error. Traitor and deserter are the same thing there are different types of ways to say someone is a traitor be it deserting, impostor, spy, hyprocrite and much more.
In most militaries, desertion is a form of treason. Any action where you go against your oaths are considered treasonous in that situation because if you are acting against orders you are acting against your country.
Honestly, I think Konata knows about the girls crushing on him. But, like with his plan to keep faith in the Sky Wizards, he chooses not to persue romance for similar reasons. Because of the Chimera Power he can tap into, he doesn’t wish for anyone to romantically involved with him in case the power corrupts those he genuinely cares about.
Man this brought back memories I completely forgot about this one. It was one of the first animes I watched as a kid on those youtube playlists with the tiny screen in the corner haha. Nostalgic :)
