An infant and their grandparents are among 4 killed in a multi-vehicle collision following a wrong-way police chase down Hwy 401. Erica Natividad reports.
Imagine if they had this same dedication to chase down human traffickers. Kmagine if they had this same dedication to chase down drug dealers. Imagine if they had the same dedication to chase down murders. Imagine if they had the same dedication to... Imagine if criminals didn't commit crimes...
Think harder.....He robbed a Government owned store. Any U.S. dept will tell you They call off chases of this degree And keep a far distance In hopes the suspect slows down Or gets off the highway all together My truck was stolen 11 years ago They asked me to come into the station to fill out a report. Never heard from them since.
Why on earth would the police indulge a high speed chase in the wrong direction on a multi lane highway . This was a robbery . . . only monetary loss. Now 3 people are dead!
Yes I often wonder why they sometimes don't err on the side of caution and back off. It seems they think that it is more important that they ''get their man'' rather than concede and maybe regroup and perhaps spare the lives of innocent bystanders. They seem to always have to ''be right'' so to speak.
It’s time to clamp down on all these immigrants and suspicious driving licences and examination standards. Every day I see someone in the GTA running straight through red lights or turning left a full 5-10 secs after the advanced green is over….enough is enough. We need some policing of junctions.
This has been on the books since 1999 for police chases: Ontario's Solicitor General has announced there will not be an end to police chases in the province. Instead, there will be new rules for the sometimes dangerous chases. From now on, police officers will have to consider three questions before they hit the accelerator. Has a crime been committed or is about to be committed? Is there an alternative to a chase? And does the need to make an arrest outweigh the safety of the public? Pursuits for non-criminal offences must be ended once the vehicle has been identified.
@@patriciarobinson5909 I agree. Justin is sooo hot! Love his hair. Love when he cries and carries his Teddy bear. Now that he is single I want to date him!
Man gets shot in the head in front of his wife and kid and police call off the chase because the shooter was speeding ! But you steal a bottle they chase you on the wrong side of a highway ? This is on Cops !
this is not what i call to serve and protect. . what else can it be? there are so many outcomes that could have taken place that would not have thrown 4 innocent people into harms way.

Better question is,how are 12 cop cars unable to box in a uhaul van within a few kms? They’re local cops, they know the city, they know the roads and the guy outrunning them in a cargo van?

I am generally not in favour of police chases as they do pose a risk to the general public, that being said if they let this person go and they still collided everyone would be questioning why they didn't try to stop the van

Big tanker.. you do nothing but antagonize that driver who doesn't care about you but more importantly himself.. bet you wouldn't have that same perspective if you drove a Toyota Echo on those highways every day

The usual suspects were committing the usual crimes as if its normal. This is a white country. If these animals dont acting like real humans they can leave!
Yea . Chasing the 500 dollars robber wrong way on highway While 10000 luxury stollen vehicules gets loaded on container ships in Montreal. Its all about priorities guys.

Wow that’s very tragic in Toronto Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 so heartbreaking for a traffic accident Six vehicles were killed and involved and the families were killed and the rest were injured.
We haven’t heard the end of this I am sure…our hearts go out to the family, such a loss and for what… High speed chase on the 401…..going in the same direction is dangerous enough!! But against traffic, what a disaster.
I hope these officers realize if they stopped the chase, the driver would’ve slowed down and hopped off the highway eventually. These officers have many many more options of catching a robber. Why did they think they HAD to continue the chase for some liquor???? I’m so upset at how this unfolded.
@@mbg4me no the sensible thing for REAL Canadians to do is to point out the obvious problems and deport them but clearly youre part of the problem. DEPORT!

They are keeping quiet but when innocent people are accused they try every and any way to get you convicted with diff psychological tactics. Countless opportunities for them but none for the people….
This is what police helicopters are for !! You know the one the taxpayers paid for !! A chase on the 401 is just ridiculous !! My heart goes out to the family that just lost everyone important to them.
Durham region always has helicopters on patrol, from the time this entire thing started they should have been able to box thia guy in. The stupidity of the police to chase him on the opposite side if the highway. That van almost took me out I saw it all happen and those cops made the situation worst
@@janoycresnova9156A buffoon going against traffic in the 401… they can bloody bring out the copter. Considering the deaths and damages that took place, it would be the ideal move
Just because you think real life should function like a movie doesn't mean it should. Policing should be concerned with public safety first. In a case of a robbery where they can easily run the plates of the car they're putting the public in more danger by engaging in car chases.
When people's property, valuables and cars are stolen then police tells them not to go after the criminals and the police also gives it low priority, so why would they not use the same logic here for a petty crime, instead of risking lives.
You assume it's just a petty crime. Check out some of the videos from other news agencies covering the sprees of LCBO robberies; you'll see people walking out with bags full of thousands of dollars of product. True North did a good piece on it recently of you don't believe me.
Blame the criminals for this tragedy. The criminals made the choice to enter the highway in the wrong direction. Police need to get a grip on rampant crime.
So calling ahead and roadblocking stopping traffic never was a option ? The chase should have ended the second he entered wrong way , the cop chasing just made things worse , and i thought we had a cop helicopter no ? Seems we have some cowboy cops on the force that need to be held partially responsible......
You think that roadblocks would have stopped a criminal fleeing from police and evading capture by driving down the wrong side of the road and he would not have blown through the police barricade, causing more damage and hurting more people in the process? Would you have preferred that the cops started to open fire on the vehicle as it traveled down the highway? Or maybe it would have been better for no one to do anything about the robbery and let the criminal make off with their ill-gotten gains so they could live another day to rob another liquor store; and in the process emboldened other criminals to do the same as there would be no fear or repercussions? It's tragic people died, but the criminal is to blame for what happened. Not the cops.
Terrible tragedy , once on the 401 because of traffic not always easy to exit ,( going the wrong way probably becomes even more difficult to exit ) coming to stop might have been best option.
For even the truck driver that lost his life, people forgetting the man who was minding his business as well transporting goods for us has lost his life while working. People shouldn’t just focus on seniors and babies. Men matter too!! Everybody matters! For god sakes more than 3 lives were lost. Baby child, teen, adult or elder… their lives all meant something. They are all somebody’s child. My condolences to them all 😢 this is ridiculous
Serious question: would people be trying to lay the blame so heavily on cops for what happened if it neither the elderly nor the infant had been? Or if anyone had not died for that matter? That seems to be what the core of the outrage is; and rightly so. It's tragic that it happened and being mad and aggrieved that it happened is a justifiable response. Laying the blame on cops for the actions of a selfish criminal is not.
Yes. Let's all get mad at the police instead of the criminal. Don't fall for this ppl.. just stop. No mention of the criminal? Guess what, certainly was out on bail.
So cops can break their own rules? This law about high speed chases have been rule in Ontario since 1999. So we’re told my Toronto Police to leave your vehicle keys at the front door to prevent being broken into by professional car thieves ……however steal from an LCBO …..hammer is dropped. Ok ….makes total sense
the difference is when you steal from an lcbo you steal from the government, car thieves just steal from you. they could care less if they arent the victim
Durham has had a chopper since 1999. A joinnt agreement with York region to use Air2, and the OPP also have 2 that cover the region. There's plenty of air support available.
Extremely sad situation here. But the Police shouldnt of been chasing against the grain. They had the vehicle description, could of used air support. Chasing only fuels the thrill and dangerous driving.
It's easy to blame the cops but not chasing suspects into oncoming traffic would be a loophole that every single thieve out there would use. Tragic but not wrong.
Why would the police do a high speed chase going down the wrong direction in traffic. That’s absolutely ridiculous of the police to even peruse the chase. That’s really upsetting !
The cops are in big trouble.... this from the Solicitor General of Ontario from 1999: Ontario's Solicitor General has announced there will not be an end to police chases in the province. @@janoycresnova9156 Brandi thinks they should just keep motoring the wrong way without the nuisance of flashing lights and sirens to alert other drivers
401 is plugged with cameras. They monitoring traffic all the time. Why not follow the car and get them on exit.. Why chasing the suspect on opposite side on 401. Unbelievable.
This didn't have to happen. A high-speed chase going the wrong way on a highway? Common sense should have prevailed, and the chase should have been called off. Sincere condolences to the family and community of those who lost their lives.
In the video clip, do you see a cop right on his tail? Last I checked a cruiser is faster than a cargo van. No. Because it's extremely unlikely any trained officer is permitted or crazy enough to follow against highway traffic. Keep the focus and the blame where it belongs. This guy, probably with an existing record, that had zero respect for public safety after comitting a crime.
