A guy makes a funny video, it becomes a meme, people watch it, people watch the meme, they search the video, they search the channel, all of a sudden the video gets a big spike in views and youtube then tries to recommend it to some people. If those people click it, it means they like it, so they start to recommend the video to the kinds of people that watch similar things to the people they first recommended it to, people with similar interests, in this case it being memes and random things, and not barbie dolls or world of warcraft lore or animal documentaries. The system works, people click on videos all the time. You found this video because they recommended it, they sneaked this video into the thousands of thumbnails you see everywhere everyday, and therefore you contributed to the popularity of it, the popularity of the website, and if you don't use adblocker you gave them more money to spend on doing deals with other companies and paying to the FTC.
