I think I’ve decided I want to major in Balatro science. I took the basic balatronomics courses, and while they’re important, I don’t think that’s the career path for me 👍
I think more than half of college students change their major at least once, on average. And that's in addition to career changes after college. I started out in an engineering major before switching to pure mathematics. I thought my whole life I liked teaching, but the actual job, as a whole, was way more stressful than I could sustain. The important thing to keep in mind is that none of that time was wasted. You can't know you don't like things unless you spend time trying them. Checking another thing off the list is time well spent.
@39:21 "We'll go immolate here, and then we'll go ectoplasm and it lands on the brainstorm instead of the showman because we swapped our boots around" What a string of words, a truly brand new sentence
So this is the seeded run that was responsible for Balatro University's recent lack of sleep! I hope you are taking care of yourself after this huge accomplishment
On average, a single 1.5x will add 0.17 to the exponent (the bit after e). To get to e308, you’d need ~1750 1.5x triggers. With 6 effective barons, each red steel king adds 1.5x mult 14 (2 triggers of 1 steel trigger and 6 baron triggers) times. This means you’d need at least 125 (1750/15) red steel kings with 6 barons to get naneinf score, which would require 62 cryptids. You had 59 cryptids in the big blind before the final round, so you were 3 cryptids off getting infinite score before the final boss. To cover all bases: the initial mult from the high card corresponds to ~8 triggers of 1.5x mult which is less than a single red steel king, so that doesn’t really make a difference.
This is super nitpicky, but from what I calculated, I believe you actually need around 60.9 cryptids, so you would need 61. I tried to plug in every possible factor, including the starting chips and mult and the fact that you have an extra non-red-seal steel card in hand. But there are a lot of factors, so my calculation might be a bit off.
@@madhavraghu I did a lot of rounding up during my calculations to make them simpler and didn’t account for base chips or mult so I’m definitely convinced 61 could do it, so he was only 2 off. Maybe the professor will end up dropping “infinite score before the final boss” in the future lol
I just realized Balatro Set-Seed puzzle routing is the perfect application for Progressive Visual Analytics! There should be an interactive analysis tool that for each round displays the entire upcoming queue for everything, lets you change parameters like vouchers that change the queue probabilities, and importantly has some kind of timeline view where you can directly compare different approaches. This would get rid of being limited by money for exploration & having to reload saves a bunch... then again, it's just really cool that with those workarounds, all of this routing magic is still possible in the vanilla game!
I think i know why selling then re-buying the boot makes the ectoplasm apply to the brainstorm instead of the boot (now THAT has got to be a brand new sentence). If i remember correctly, ectoplasm has the same selection system as wheel or other cards that change a joker's edition : instead of selecting ANY random joker, it chooses between the oldest eligible and newest eligible joker. If you don't sell the boot, the oldest no-edition joker IS the boot, and the newest one is the showman. It randomly selects the oldest : the boot. If you DO sell then re-buy the boot, the ectoplasm STILL chooses the oldest no-edition joker, but selling the boot means this is now the brainstorm instead. In both cases, it chooses the oldest naked joker. I may be wrong, but i think that would make sense, and it means that any card that gives an edition to a joker always makes the same "choice" between oldest and newest NO MATTER how much you change the jokers inbetween, which means this could lead to some fun manipulation : check if a specific ectoplasm/hex/etc card chooses the oldest or newest joker, then load an earlier save to buy and sell accordingly to manipulate which joker is newest or oldest.
I like that you explain the micro optimizations even at the end of the run. An extra dollar might not make a difference at that point, but those little insights are really important for the early game so you can balloon!
I was wondering why it was called "naneinf". I knew that scientific notation using "e" was a thing, but I just hadn't put 2 and 2 together until you brought it up
The number that's supposed to be displayed should be inf. And my theory is that the game try to format the number by calculating the log10 of the number first, storing the result B, then divide the original number by B to get the result A, then simply display "AeB". And since the number is infinite, taking the log10 of it would result in also infinite, and divide infinite with infinite would result in NaN, thus combining the two would result in "naneinf". This bug can be fixed if the formatting algorithm check for infinity first.
For those who are wondering, if the counter is capable to display the score, it should be around 5.44e320, but unfortunately it’s greater than 1.78e308, which is the 1024-bit integer limit, that’s why it can only show ‘naneinf’ as it’s too big for it to handle.
I do love the “you know if you sell this here and buy this here, and then buying that back, it procs on the correct thing.” It’s like ah yes me in my normal run can see the future. Crazy how nitpicky rogulites can be, I love it so much
Although it does teach you to take small packs first, and to watch your rerolls, how to manage tarot cards, how to manage money, what specifically to look for. I love tf outta this game honestly
Great vid! Do you think anyone will ever be able to do an infinite points run in non-endless mode without using Perkeo? It seems impossible to me but curious on your thoughts
I would love to see you, as a special thing in the not super far but not super near future, go for the world record score, if possible. But like it's a lot of time so I totally get why you might not want to
Wait so i keep pausing the video wondering why no mime? I have to assume it didnt show up because wouldnt 1 mine w 4 barons be the same as the 6? Or wouldnt a mime w 5 barons save you 20% of your require cryptids? Still what a beautiful seed where everything falls into place so nicely Edit: you answered it no mime at the end, LMAO right after ante 8 what a jerk that guy is
at around 34:15 you show that the judgment gives showman, could you not have saved money by not rerolling the shop and buying showman, but instead using judgment the next round?
my theory is that this record is going to be held by the plasma deck like all others halving the sum of chips and mult and then taking it to ^2 is just pretty insane you would of course need a godlike seed for the spectral cards but I think that is going to be the way
In plasma its too hard to get the immolates and a cryptid early. You would have to get senace or sixth sence super early and go for the gamble WHILE also finding all the perkeo copies. It is probably still possible and you might reach naneinf before the final boss but the routing required for this would take years.
Got brainstorm instead of the rare in the beginning since i dont have the other one unlocked and the first brainstorm instead was a blueprint, tried to follow u after but a bit different (prob could be played way better) but got the inf score in round 28 :) Was fun to improvise 0.1% and not copy you 100%
@@drspectred that makes sense yeah I don’t have it but it ended up working I got a blueprint around the same time as the invisible joker so it ended up being basically the same
When you sell the invisible joker you mention that it would be better if it copied the brainstorm. If you switch the position of perkeo and brainstorm it will copy brainstorm, when I've done seeded runs Invisible seems to work off position not joker.
I dunno what your stance or opinion is on using feature and quality of life mods, but I'm pretty sure there's a few that could make this routing a little easier. For example here's a quick save/load mod that may help you out. edit: I should have said you're probably aware of them already, I'm more curious about what you'd think about using them.
Im surprised you can do it without mime. The run can definitely be pushed farther, when I did it on my seed I was 50e over naneinf. Sooner or later I wouldn't be surprised if a ante 6 or 7 wins shows up and on my run I only got one -1 ante voucher
If you set up the Perkeo infinite Fool loop (discussed in a previous video) you could get an infinite number of Jokers, although I doubt the game would handle that very well, and it would take extremely long.
its been four months so you probably know but i think perkeo observatory or chicot hands but both work as non cryptid nane-infs (also easier on plasma)
It could be big blind of ante 1, after heiroglyph and petroglyph. Cuz it takes 7 rounds of perkeo+bp+bs with overstock to copy all the tarot cards, plus the 1 original round before you get any jokers. So during the 8th round you can do the infinite money glitch and if you also got bootstraps and bull you can theoretically go infinite, but it'll take forever. I guess if you want to go even further into absurdity you can just assume that every time you use emperor it will give fool and temperance, and if that's the case you don't need perkeo and you can get naneinf in ante 0, but that's taking it to another level of unlikely.
In ante 2 I keep getting Saturn in the shop with the devil card instead of an immolate. Tried a couple times. Reasons why maybe it’s not working 1. I don’t have hit the road unlocked I get brainstorm in stead in the first pack and then blueprint when you get brainstorm. Negative applies to the blueprint. So now for the rest of the run up to this point I have more copies of whatever card is in my consumable slot. All of this feels irrelevant. Only difference in my run is that Saturn card in place of the immolate. Alternatively I tried selling my first brainstorm at the same point you sold your hit the road. The only difference I’m my run up until the Saturn card was I had a couple extra dollars. 2. I am playing in switch. Unsure how this affects the seed Let me know if anyone else is having the same issue
With the ectoplasm randomisation explanation at 36:00, one potential way it could be working (and the way I'd do it) is: purchased_cards[floor(random_float() * purchased_cards.length)] (IE, where the order of the jokers list is the purchase order instead of the order of them at time of random choice)
Oh, and interesting, you mentioning that the Wheel would apply to your Brainstorm at 37:10 makes me think that the random numbers for the "random joker" choice is a shared queue, which could mean it's possible to manipulate targeting by, for example, using a Wheel first to take one joker out of the list. From there the algorithm could work one of two ways, it could be choosing a random joker in a _filtered_ purchase order list, or (assuming you have any joker that it could apply to) it could repeatedly choose a joker from the available until it finds one that is applicable. But in general, if it is choosing based on just indexing the purchased jokers list with a float, simply purchasing additional jokers could cause Invisible Joker at the start here to apply to the Brainstorm instead of the Perkeo, depending on the specific random number used for that choice.
