This works in QX56 and up to newer QX80's that do not support factory CarPlay. Android auto is available as well. CarPlay mod for Infiniti QX80 Limited 2016 by Nifty City Save 10% off using code "ANDREW10" at www.niftycity.shop
Which unit did you by from nifiticity? They have two that will fit, and there is no description on the difference. One just says Auto OEM, cheaper and then one that says Auto Interface. Not sure of the difference on them but I like your setup and functionality.
Hey there, thank you for this great video. I have a quick question. I tried changing the dash screen before "with a different car" and my experience wasn't that good especially with the sound quality. Sound: There is a buzzing sound coming out of the speakers when I accelerate, did this happen with you? and how can I prevent this? Control : Do you only control this with the touch screen? Because I've seen there is a full console that can be installed for control buttons.
Hi Andrew, I saw your reply about switching cameras when approaching something with the sensors, I assume the reverse camera also activates and takes over CarPlay when in reverse? Does Siri work over the standard headliner microphone and do the directions from Google or Waze work similar that it lowers the volume around the driver but not so much the rest of the car?
Yes, if you put your car into reverse when using that system, it automatically switches back and forth. Siri works over the standard mic in the car. Directions from Google or Waze although do not lower the volume. One thing that I don't like is you can't independently change the volume of the navigation. In cars that have built in CarPlay, when google maps gives directions, you can change the volume when the google or navigation is speaking. I haven't found a way to independently do that yet. Also in the USA, the climate indicators in the car play unit do not show F correctly. The company said the are working on an update.
I do have the headrest screens but I did not hook up the AV cables that came with it. They use RCA but I hear it’s not that hard. If you want apps you need to buy the advanced unit.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I have your exact model just a different exterior color so this is extremely helpful. Just a couple questions. 1. Does any of this enable video in motion when the qx is driving? Of course not for the driver but maybe the front passenger wants to watch the movie that the back folks are watching. 2. You mentioned the real displays and extra RCAs? Where would you run the rear displays if you wanted video on the back screens? Would you run rca’s from the displays to the console and split it? I would not mind connecting an iPad or something with a ton of movies vs DVDs.
Thank you, I enjoyed this install but for the video in motion, it uses the same factory lock if you watch a DVD. If you decide to use the apps on the higher specd version with Netflix and such, you can watch them as you drive. You must buy the one that has those apps included. For the video, there are two outputs I believe for the headrests. I didn’t hook them up as it didn’t make sense to me. There might be a adapter or connector required but at this point I’m not sure. Their tech and support system once you buy one is amazing.
Hello. Nice video. Will this installation void any warranty that comes with the QX80? For my clarification, the Android Auto/Car play system does not need any external speakers, the system will use the original bluetooth/audio system that comes with the QX80, correct?
@@mtiphotography Thank you for the response. I am thinking of getting the unit installed in my vehicle just for android auto/carplay. I have also been looking at other alternatives. There is a device called AAwireless. The reviews on youtube states that the AAwireless unit allows your vehicle to have android auto/carplay wirelessly without disassembling the infotainment system in the QX80.
Do all the steering wheel controls still work for car play? Volume and change song? Does the car automatically switch to cameras when you approach something while in carplay?
It’s Andrew here from MTI Photography. When I was researching units this was a must. The factory steering wheel controls work normal and also switch to camera automatically. Also in the back end you can program buttons and also change icons. I might do another video talking about this.
