Gay homosexuals Nick and Joseph spoil Infinity Pool - a 2023 science fiction horror film written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg.
Premise: James and Em Foster are enjoying an all-inclusive beach vacation in the fictional island of La Tolqa, when a fatal accident exposes the resort's perverse subculture of hedonistic tourism, reckless violence and surreal horrors.

If it’s a Cronenberg film (father or son) you know there is going to be body horror. Nick you are right, this film should have been an episode of something like Black Mirror.

I wanted to know more about the rules for the cloning. At first, I thought you can only get a clone when you break a law. But later we see Mia and her lame ass clan of losers purchase a clone of James. What!? Anyone can buy a clone of anyone? What was all that crappy paperwork he had to sign the first time if any rando can just buy a clone of him without his consent or knowledge? I dunno. As soon as I realized this was another movie about how “bored” boring rich people are, I lost interest. This movie was like Westworld meets Squid Game… but in a bad way, with no one to root for.

I think you missed the point of the movie... It really isn't about hard scifi or cloning. The clones are simply metaphors for the movie's theme.

You're right that was a plot hole. The movie painted him as a free loading poor reliant husband while simultaneously allowing him to be framed like he's rich. I didn't like it. Film tried to survive on one idea.

I agree with y’all on all of this. The movie was a huge letdown. It’s not super sensical and stops being interesting after the second execution. A better ending would’ve been if Alexander Skarsgård’s character was cut off by his wife at the end and didn’t have the money for another double. If they really wanted to talk about class disparity, they should’ve highlighted how he was an out of work writer that couldn’t hang with them on any level by having him not only be reluctant to get to their level of cruelty, but also be the only one unable to buy his way out of trouble

I feel like I read waaay too much into this one. 😅To me, it was about hedonism of rich people at the expense of the poor, masculinity (or lack thereof, especially with the partners some men choose and how they may resemble their mothers), and how each time we experience a trauma, we become a new version of ourselves and sometimes have to leave behind old versions (and sometimes we become unrecognizable to our old selves, etc). If I hadn't perceived it that way, I wouldn't have liked this film.
@KarlMarxhaswifi
@KarlMarxhaswifi Год назад
This is actually a brief but great analysis of the film. You touched on a point about trauma and how it forever changes us to the point of no longer being recognizable to those who love you and to yourself. Where are you picking up the notion that people end up dating people who resemble their parents though? He is basically being taken care of financially by his wife and there's that whole breastfeeding visual motif that happens a couple of times but anything I'm missing that gave you that impression?
@emilymurdoch6713
@emilymurdoch6713 Год назад
@@KarlMarxhaswifi Thank you! No, you got it - it was the breastfeeding scene and how Mia Goth's character started treating him as well as how he kind of seemed to regress into a helpless little boy. Like a shell of himself, which speaks to the trauma again.
@dana_0f_the_dead
@dana_0f_the_dead Год назад
I think James Foster was the real James Foster at the end of the film. I think that he stayed behind on the island to not only settle from severe traumatization but also to write his book there. I am posting my review tomorrow!
@KarlMarxhaswifi
@KarlMarxhaswifi Год назад
i kind of had the sense that for the majority of the film we're seeing the first copy of James Foster, especially with the scene where Mia Goth and her little group of bourgeoisie friends hint at the fact that they could've just as likely witnessed their original selves be murdered with a simple body swap when they are unconscious. Would explain a little bit more why James Foster has lost a bit of humanity after the first cloning.

I was with this movie for the first two thirds before it lost me. But then I hadn't seen a trailer or even a clip before I watched this. The premise of perhaps losing your original body (and by extension part of your humanity) was fascinating. Likewise, the idea of the characters having to use psychedelic drugs to compensate. But then the story completely derails in the third act. There is a more fascinating version of this story that's been done before with clones becoming self aware.

When James pummeled his clone (old, lame self) to death, that was the ultimate expression of his will to power. He was reborn by it and through it. Gabi was basically trying to birth a self-actualized James. She saw the emasculated house husband that arrived on the island and thought of it as a fun, "vaction challenge", to fix him. He ultimately decides to remain on the island because he saw the vacuous existence of the supposed "actualized" and realized that no matter where he went, there he was.

I just found about this film yesterday and hearing that it's from the same director as Possessor partially explains why the trailer has 30mill views. From just watching the trailer alone, it comes off similar in production / story quality (what have you) as many recent independent art house films which are ultimately released, never heard about, and quickly forgotten. Perhaps there's something a little more special about this than the director's name value?... but then again Neon might just have a really good online marketing team. I'll have to watch it and see what it's all about. Keep up the good work guys and btw, it'd be fun if you could review some theatrically released anime films sometime. Preferably ones released through GKIDS.

Like at the end where he is on the bus and Mia Goth and her husband and the other couple barely speak to him and act like they none of that happened cause I think none of it did. It’s an easy 8/10 for me. The dissection of wealth privilege and how it creates a sort of god-like immunity for the obscenely rich was handled quite well. The two leads, especially Mia Goth were fantastic. Her performance just gained strength as the film progressed. Additionally, I think the character depth and development were adequately incisive and the tension and atmosphere kept me engrossed, as well. The only real negatives for me were the flat characterization of Cleopatra Coleman’s character and that the film meandered a bit during the hallucinatory sequences, but those are pretty negligible in the face of how well-crafted “Infinity Pool” is.
