The fact that the train can produce an exit that you aren't supposed to take because it would be selfish or wrong in some other way, then take away the exit because you considered taking it is really really cool.
I just think it's another of those nasty paradoxes like Jesse's second exit that had to be with Lake's. He solved his problem by not going without Min but in taking the exit he would contradict the solution to his problem. I don't think it was intentional. It's just proof that the train cannot be flawless in it's logic. I honestly love that.
@@Quinyel I definitely see it as the train testing Ryan to see if he would make the correct decision. The train likely would have removed the exit in either case, as he hadn't resolved all his issues at that point, but One did infer that "Anything can happen", so this is indeed still a logical route the train can do.
It seems the train was developed to resolve personal regrets and guilts. When Ryan is resolved to not leave his friend that meant he had no regrets at that moment. Though it would have definitely been a paradox if he chose to go as it would have created regrets. He ends up regretting the thought of taking the exit and abandoning his friend which is why his number went back up.
I just realize that this car might be one of the most dangerous cars in the train, because not everyone will see the door and get out, proof being the many hands the monster is composed of. If the apex came in contact with such car I think they would all be dead. The fact that you are basically trapped in there if you don't pay attention is terrifying
The fact that this train is very extreamly danger its put all human passanger to create a monster its not safe so why did one one made this, this is before amila take over
Just noticed something 115 was Tulip's number. Just when Ryan thought about being selfish and leaving Min his number got 115. That issue about being selfish was one of Tulip's mainly problems. Such a cool detail
it seem like there a specific formula or a checksum that indicate which problem calculate to each number. like if people have way too many problems the number might been multiplying to a specific number hence why numbers can go really up.
Well, he got his exit for decision to stay with Min It wasn't a test from the train It's just the coincidence, that accepting the exit - closes the exit Jesse had similar problem - his second problem was in Lake, so even if he got exit - he can't take it, because his problem is on the train
@Tony Emery if possible, you really should be watching it on HBO. If the show receives overwhelming support then the execs will really have no choice but to take notice. But that’ll only happen if the show is actually making money
This only can be two things: 1.Both numbers has to get 0 at the same time to open the door 2. Ryan chose his liberty instead of helping his friend so the train decided he hasn't learn the lesson yet
probably the ladder, one because it wouldn’t make sense for min-gi’s number to reach zero when he is under attack, and two when jesse and lake left together there doors fused together, but idk if that was an exception for lake and jesse, also i havent finished this season yet
Logically, each passenger is treated as an individual, so there numbers and doors are "separate". The train however can account for exceptions such as shared experiences like this or for Jesse and Lake (As they explicitly said, they wanted to leave *together*, so the train merged their exits to make that happen in a literal and logistical sense)
oooooh i think both their problem is that they can't make their decision between staying together or leaving each other and I think that is the reason why the door unlocked when he said "I won't leave you", because he made a decision. But then he hesitated between leaving and staying to help his friend, and the door closed
@@michaelirazori9214 Their numbers seem to be individual, but the reason they're on the train is because of the issues that they share between them, and so that's why the numbers generally change together.
This car felt like it was explicitly designed to kill passengers. Pretty much all the cars in this season did. I don't think One One knows how therapy works.
this is by far the most scariest character on infinity train!!!! It's a creature completely made up of arms stolen from passengers unfortunate enough to get caught in its wake: their numbers are still present on some of these arms. This reminds me a lot of the cluster gems on steven universe!!!
My theory is that Ryan actually did deserve to leave in that moment, as he promised not to leave and stay with his friend. The reason the numbers went back up is because when the door appeared, he was actually thinking of leaving. Thus, not making him deserving of leaving. Just my thought
@@inottonyxd3205 except at that point she hadn't taken control yet. And we have never seen her have the ability to change a person's number or force an exit to close.
@@inottonyxd3205 the number changes solely based on the actions/words/thoughts of the person the number is on. it is completely reactionary based. outside influences cannot change it.
Geez. One really did mean it when he said " If they don't, they'll die here". Like seriously. A cart that makes the passengers part of itself... Cockroaches that can suck your lifeforce out of you... It's a really good thing Tulip was able to snap One-One out of the old robotic state in the Turtle cart, so now One-One's pods give the information instead of denizens that haven't been kept up to date with the program since Amelia's reign.
At one point, there is only so far logic can go before it starts to become harmful in a sense. Logic and Emotion both deserved equal parts on the train to satisfy it's goal, though it makes me wonder why One hadn't been given emotional capacity in the beginning (Or more-so had it locked)
@@cdagaming575 it’s very interesting, one-one seems so cold, pragmatic and methodical in this book and it was dangerous in itself specially to the passengers, if anything it was good that he became more emotional mature when we see him interact with Tulip
@@paperbagboi3185 Indeed, Tilip saved the train from a much darker path. It would have still helped passengers but at a cost. That also brings the question of who designed one without these critical components...
0:19 Some unlucky sod got killed by the docent when they just had 15 left on their number. Don't know which is worse - getting taken onto the train for a really menial issue and getting immediately killed, or working your way down from a massive number only to die just before the end.
Theory: Ryan getting his exit is actually what allowed Min to escape the docent. Originally Min was standing and curling in on himself. When Ryan’s number reached 0, the train came to a halt in order to give him his exit. We cut away from Min when this happens and the next time we see him he’s sprawled out on the floor at the perfect angle to look up and find the door. What if when the train stopped, the sudden jolt knocked Min down and let him find the exit? So by getting his exit Ryan actually did fulfill his promise of not leaving Min behind. They just didn’t realize it.
I can't believe they canceled this show leaving so many cliffhangers. First, it was the mystery of Hazel's existence, and now this monster made up of the hands of passengers. They can't be this stupid.
That’s what I love about this show! I feel like there’s so much stuff left ambiguous and open to interpretation, but they also add so much detail in terms of writing while keeping the actual world more abstract. But I 100% agree there were parts especially about the main plot I don’t get, similar to Hazel. I don’t feel like this did it for me as a finally. Why was OneOne only One before when we was the conductor (the more neutral version of himself)? Why did he reintroduce himself to Tulip in the first season in the turtle car? In the 4th book we see multiple encounters with the Steward that don’t make sense-what was going on with Amelia while this was happening? If anybody has answers I’d love to hear them :). I too don’t think this should be over-there’s still so much train to explore and so many characters to check up on! I get these are more self-contained stories, but still would like reoccurring characters to follow up with them. I felt like Book 4, while still absolutely incredible, was only good as a prequel if it explained more stuff when Amelia was taking over. This is basically just long way of saying yeah I agree :)
@@cleoblanding9684 I believe there's a short where One-One says that because he was trapped in the winter car 30 years he developed a double personality
Pause around 0:23 and you'll see one arm that has a whole big dead number on it. I know it's a prequel but considering what One-One said, The train accounts for everything, _including future passengers._
@@cleoblanding9684 one was only one before Amelia ripped him out and trapped him in the snow car, where he broke into 2 personalities. There were many stewards according to the AMA, but it is unknown how many stewards are currently active. (Also - the stewards have a voice of their own, WHY didn’t they use it for the train announcements??). One one reintroduces himself because he went into the robotic version of sensory overload, causing him to reboot. Also - the hand monster started with one hand and collects the hands of passengers that didn’t make it out. Quite a few passengers have gotten numbers that high due to the train housing millions of passengers over time
Man this particular train car is dark and messed up. The Docent is easily the most terrifying creature in Infinity Train with both it's design, abilities, and the fact that it killed a fair number of passengers and took their arms to create it's body. Makes you wonder who made this creature.
@@Cheetahgirl_Studios I highly doubt that. The denizens, Amelia and even One all remark on how unusual it is to see even just two passengers in the same place. Morgan and Kez seem like the only ones who ever had several passengers in the same place at all, because Morgan was a hotel providing everything necessary for survival. And even then, it's said that the numbers dwindled very fast, until Jeremy was alone with them for quite a while. So it doesn't seem like many passengers ran into each other at the same time a lot, let alone specifically in this car. Perhaps something like hypothermia could play a role? Or the paintings?
@@Broeckchen it tried to control kez too so maybe it usually turns denizens against passengers and harvests the passenger’s arms after. And it just kinda took advantage of there being two passengers this time

@@miguelcastro3216 this season is before/during the Amelia's takeover in the train so I think it makes sense that this Monster was already created by the train or by One's algorithms. We already can assume that the train is far more dangerous than it was in Book 1 for example, in this season it feels like it's very simple to die, hence why One says at the beginning of the season that if they don't change "Then they die here"
@@gabrielstratulat7951 But habitants can't have numbers, Amelia tried create one, Hazel, she made a lot of experiment, but none worked. Why One created a monster that increase the number?
1:23 Huh might have been something revealed earlier in the episode but... Anyone else notice the line of numbers on the monster's... Arm. Dear god.... Those who don't leave the train...
I love how the exit was paradoxical in this situation. It was like leaving Min-Gi was the wrong decision so using it would make it disappear. I like to think that Ryan’s uncertainty was only a small portion towards why his number went back up.
I might be wrong. But I don’t think that creature is a byproduct of the train . I think it might be something outside of the train’s reality . Because lake may have come from the train but she was still a byproduct of an individual world that functioned and existed outside of the boundaries of the infinity train and long before the chrome car was constructed . The mirror world already existed. The chrome car was simply a bridge to it . And I think that other pocket worlds like the mirror world do exist and that the train systematically creates bridges to these world without realising ? Worlds within worlds . But at the same time the train brings in creatures and entities that exist outside of the laws of the train and I think that creature was one of those entities. Not a denizen, not a null . Not an inhabitant . An entity , that is dark hungry and insidious .
That's actually a really good observation. Might be why the train cars can get called up to the engine room to be fixed or destroyed. I always thought it was for little things but it might even go beyond that.
@Furry-big_boi your not wrong it’s primary form is shadow based but it used the body parts of passengers to anchor itself into the material existence. when it opened its “mouth” just for a brief second you can see a shape . There wasn’t any face per say but it was definately the outline of a head . This thing isn’t mindless . It’s conscious and dangerous . And it’s imprisoned in that car for a reason and if it gets out . Hell if it gets back to the human world . 😰
Oh, I get it. In the real world, Ryan really did leave Min Ge behind because Min wasn't ready to move away. Ryan is being tested to see if he will do it again.
I'm still mulling over Book 4. Could you please give us a reason for why it's "Expectations versus Reality" for Book 4? And could it be possible it could be something else?
@@jeffhappens1 Both Ryan and Min-Gi struggle to find personal fulfillment in their lives; Ryan tries to rush his way towards achieving his life-long dream, while Min-Gi tries to work for success and overachievement that he doesn’t know what to do with. Both have a desire to make music, but while Ryan thinks this is the only way he can gain the approval and attention from his family (as the middle child of 5), Min-Gi has parents that expect him to excel, causing him to hesitate when it comes to his life choices. These expectations, causing both the literal and allegorical distance and dissonance between two friends, have little effect on them in reality, as they are solely responsible for the lives they pursue and the choices they make. This is just what I took from it, you can interpret it any way you want to.
@@jedrzejkoszewski4342 Gosh, I would've loved to see what kind of protagonists would've been used for those Books, I have feeling that Grief would be centered on Amelia.
@@dafint1 That's a really good point... but I don't think it just absorbs passengers... It looks so out of place not just for the train, but also for the train car. And I don't recall any other denizen hostile in this way before Amelia takes over. There is more of a theme of denizens trying to hold on to passengers in this season, but this direct mind manipulation seems out of the scope of even Perry. Another hint seems to be the cold it spreads, not typical for the car... and how incidental it is for the door riddle. It feels more at home in the wasteland than on the train. I wonder if it's connected to the bug dogs and how Simon dies. Or perhaps... the first conductor?
@@Broeckchen Can't be certain and I also think that hand beast was trying to eat Min-gi. Nonetheless, anything can happen on the Train, either One as the conductor or if it's another human being who previously took over the train.
The irony about this is if Ryan didn't think about leaving, Min would be unable to leave the train as his number was still 202. And likely would have skyrocketed if Ryan was able to unlock the exit but not him.
It's scenes like this that really make me wonder what kind of person designed these cars? Is the monster an actual resident of the car or is it a passenger that simply went insane and turned into a monster?
Or even worse, is this outside of the conductors oversight? Entities from inside the cars can move outside, that part is obvious and they can even use the rules and objects from their own cars inside other cars, where the physics and biology involved may be just as alien and incomprehensible to them as to us. So imagine an infinite amount of cars, each with infinite variation of both biology and physics, where rules define everything and yet are meaningless in any other car. Then imagine each of those cars has an invasive species ad infinitum that can move anywhere within each of these cars without (known) consequence. We saw what the parasite did to Dracula but imagine if the parasite got into say, the giant crystal beast, or a bug that suck the souls out of people, or even, god forbid, Randall. For all we know, this could have been apart of a hand puppet car that then wandered in to a "The Fly" transporter car that melded it with a passenger. Or maybe a "Operation" style car where the limbs are sort of alive and then wandered into a spirit realm car. It could literally mean anything.
@@harveygriffiths9383 actually, that monster’s presence here is VERY intentional. There was even a warning sign when they first into the art gallery about the creature, reading “Mind the Docent” All context and indicators seem to point to the implication that this monster is an intended feature/hazard of this car which was designed by One while he was in charge of things.
The monster is another denizen, albeit a mysterious and very hostile one. It’s called The Docent and seems to permanently reside in the art gallery car, which given What point of the series this was taking place in, was created by One. He was a not a very.... gentle... conductor
@@AesKomics I don't know... what if it's a recursive thing? Like the weeping angels from Doctor Who, where time is stolen by sending the person back...
If you think about it, Min would have probably been stuck on the train forever if Ryan left. There numbers are connected directly to each other, and without Ryan there to help them both grow (and vice versa) Min wouldn’t be able to lower his number.
Not gonna lie this gives me Simon vibes. Simon was abandoned by the cat and felt abandoned by Grace when she flipped his beliefs on him, and since he was so far gone, he went insane and lost his way. These guys almost remind me of that with that one considering to leave the other one behind and the betrayal it created in his heart. But I don’t think they’re as far gone as Simon, so they’ll probably be ok.
The difference between them and Simon is emotional maturity. Simon was left on the train as a child and more vulnerable. These two were put in as adults and had more of a backbone to handle it better.
@@cdagaming575 That’s very true. Along with that, Simon grew up by putting his trust in Grace and sticking to her belief for most of his life. So when he felt betrayed by grace and when the way he was taught to think for most of his life turned out to be wrong, he couldn’t adapt as well.
Or it could’ve been another passenger with a long number. In the entire history of the train there had to have been quite a few people with arm-spanning numbers. I’m pretty sure those arms belong to the people that the Docent itself has killed, not just anyone who died on the train. Also this book takes place in the 80s, Simon wasn’t even born yet, much less on the train at this point.
Simon would not have been on the train since s4 takes place *during* Amelia's takeover, it's most likely amelia's arm. The denizen is probably an attempt to bring back her husband, sort of like Hazel but a little more twisted.
@@amaliakartika8657 well it's possible that time doesn't matter in the train, because it seems like it's in another dimension. I agree with you, Simon's stil not in the train at that point, but that could happen

@@boe_jo9778 I’m hoping that one day the execs will be looking for another show to reboot and see that the rest of the books were already written out and be able to pick up from there with no continuity errors
Even though Owen said the books and christmas special stopped production, the show might come back in the future if we keep insisting on it and growing the fanbase!
I read a theory on Tumblr that this creature, the Docent, would have been the antagonist of Season 5 if the series hadn't been cancelled. Each season's main antagonist is shown in the previous season- the Flecks in Season 1, Simon in Season 2, Amelia's interference with the train in Season 3. The Docent is by far the most hostile creature shown on the train, outside of a Grom. Too hostile, in fact- it's likely to kill a passenger before they can find the door and get out, which is counter-productive to the Train's purpose. Possibly the Docent was a harmless Denizen, but became jaded over time by being stuck in its role, unable to leave its car, and became bitter and resentful of passengers, eventually attacking them, and then killing them. Amelia's coup was seen to disrupt parts of the train, like the stewards that keep things in order. That means a 30-year gap where this thing could have got loose and roamed the train, killing every passenger it could get its hands on. And Amelia, in her ongoing mission to fix the damage she did to the Train, would have to stop it.
Ryan and Kez can only look back with the former declaring that he would never leave him. His number reaches 0 and the portal home opens, Ryan considers taking it, causing his number to go up to 115 and closing the portal!
Fun fact: The Docent was an idea by Alex Horab, the writer of "The Art Gallery Car." Originally, it was a creature that removed passenger's arms to make up its cloak, but eventually evolved into "whatever it is now." Owen Dennis has referred to it as an upsetting creature, admitting he himself does not fully understand its nature...
the irony is that by getting to zero, the train stopped, the stopping freed Ming, and placed him where he could see the door. Had Ryan turned away, or ran (instead of staying and saying "I won't leave you"), Ming would have been taken
Misery loves company. This creatures seems to be an amalgam of such. As though a physical representation of negative groups of people who feed into your most hateful and vulnerable emotions in order to entice you into joining them.
Just wanted to point this out with the implied context of the show before any theories are made: (Spoiler warning by the way) This season takes place in the past, when Amelia successfully hijacked the train and took One-One apart, thus splitting him into two separate personalities. The monster is *not* Simon or any other passenger that died off the train, but rather an amalgam of passengers who “lost” themselves and merged with the monster.
@@MrBlue-ci4ii You’re half right. They are victims, but only victims from this particular car. From what I understand, the “Docent” creature reveals one’s inner negative thoughts, and then merges with them when they are most vulnerable.
I wonder if the train stops whenever passengers reach 0 because originally, when they had uniforms and stuff, the steward(s?) would come to them and give them their stuff back. So basically, leaving used to be a whole process. That’s what I imagine.
This is such a great scene: the Train is built to have every possible situation occur on it, given a long enough period of time. It also works axiomatically, using algorithms to assess the "growth" of passengers- these features of the train are in tension with one another, and thus result in paradoxical situations which can in fact impede or confuse the growth of passengers. It is a truly remarkable storytelling device that has functions for the meta narrative, themes, and as a setting. The scene immediately after this, with its tragedy, interrogates the train as much as it interrogates the difficult relationship these boys have with one another.
So, the train gives him the exit cause he decided to not leave his friend, but this made he be hesitant about leaving his friend or not... this train is so messed up
It's actually pretty smart, ONE definintely knows what hes doing, ONE made Ryan understand what Min-gi was feeling the night he abandoned Ryan on the show , it's a brutal way to do it but it's really clever.
I think the arm monster is what happens to people when their numbers are up high for too long. That's why one arm has a whole bunch of numbers and some have a few. The arms with very little numbers are the victims arms that the monster caught.
That might actually not be true, considering Amelia who had her number high for almost a decade. Punishing the passengers for not figuring out their life's problems seems too unfair. But someone above said it could be a byproduct of the car itself, a being unintentionally formed by that pocket dimension and consuming passengers for some odd reason.
So um. One of the docents limbs is covered in numbers and one of its hands has a number. Meaning that the docents body is made up of the arms and hands of passengers its previously captured.
I can’t tell if this thing is growling like an alligator/crocodile, or if that’s the sound of its too many hands moving. Also, I have a theory on what the docent does to passengers: it kills you, and leaves nothing behind. Except for your number hand, which then it assimilates into its mass. This docent is nightmare fuel.
@@Entei707 Yeah, but giving him the door in that situation was cheap. He couldn’t rescue Min-Gi, so his choices were to either wait and potentially watch his friend die, or get off the train. Both of which suck.
did you know that 202 represents your new beginning when it comes to your spirituality. You keep seeing 202 because the divine realm wants to strengthen your mind and spirit. When you have a strong mind and spirit, you can fully see your purpose and understand your intentions
Guys, I just looked up what docent means, and… noun: docent; plural noun: docents 1. (in certain universities and colleges) a member of the teaching staff immediately below professorial rank. 2. a person who acts as a guide, typically on a voluntary basis, in a museum, art gallery, or zoo. Let’s hope that there isn’t a zoo car in book 5 if we succeed at fighting for the second half of the series. Although, that would be really cool to see, a zoo car. Also, knowing infinity train, the docent will probably not be confined to museums or art galleries or zoos.
Just noticed one of the arms has a long line of numbers on it. Obviously with the twist (and his disintegration) it couldn't be Simon or any of the apex but that is a HIGH number.
I can’t tell if that cricking sound that the docent(how do you say that?) makes is the sound of it moving around (because it’s made of passenger hands) or the sounds that roaring animals make before roaring.
@@KezzDaddy cool thought, but I feel like the sound it makes sounds too much like the other thing I said. Some kind of pre-roaring sound without the roaring.
This season was crazy and the past infinity train is much more crueler as people could die and one one or just one could care less as he doesn’t have a kind personality with him and the denizens and creatures are more murdery and dangerous than the last seasons
The infinity train still lets people die even with his positive self. One one fully believes death is a valid option instead of growth and does not care if a passenger chooses it. I think honestly that the train is just as cruel as it was 33 years ago
Take it as this: One was only designed to be purely logistics (Since in a technicality, emotion can prevent making logical decisions and can prevent the trains objective). Tulip's actions however in Book one changed that for One-One, to realize that both logic and emotion were needed to achieve a positive change (Also the fact that death would indeed mean failure and harming the goal of the train). Book 2 challenged this as well when One-One struggled against logic and emotion for letting Lake get an exit, even though it contradicted the train's logic for denizens. It took Lake's illusion to provide the logic factor to see past the contradiction to satisfy both ends. In the end, you cannot get change based on pure logic, something One hadn't learned when originally built.
@@SSS_413 yeah I know people can still die on the train even one one cares or not Simon getting turned to dust from a ghom proved that but still this book shows more dangerous denizens that pretty much tried to trap and kill them especially the gallery monster

@@tylerrenfroe6059i mean that’s the whole point. They’re on the train because they had bad communication caused by a lot of problems they had when growing up.
Okay, guys... you can tell that Ryan is going to leave Min after that door opened, that's why his number increased. I think he got tired of chasing Min.
Ok but like- am I the only one who wants to see more about the hand monster? Like how does something like that start? Was it a different kind of denizen before it killed (?) passengers?
I think it was a result of Amelia messing with the train. You see that it has a non glowing number just like Hazel, so I'm pretty sure it's some kind of error.
@Not-So-Smart Huh, you're right, from what we seen from Book 4, I think Amelia hadn't really started creating cars, but just took over the Steward. I guess that creature is a mystery, it'd be cool if it were a denizen gone rogue, and started stealing the hands of passengers.
Okay I don’t understand I was wrong but I really thought this season was saying that sometimes people grow apart and trying to stay together may not be what’s best. So in this moment I originally interpreted Ryan thinking that he can’t leave without Min is what made his door close because he has an over dependence on the relationship. But ya I was wrong but with how heavy this show has been in the past should not have been surprised
I mean Ryan leaving Min to die would be pretty shitty. Side note their story is more like a parallel to Grace and Simon’s relationship because they had a friendship that seemed solid but ended horrifically while with Ryan and Min we saw the cracks right away and this story was about fixing a friendship.
I love the fact that in books 2-4 there is not even a single scene with locomotive or balls that make cars. Even if you start the series from other book than first you will get surprised by something once you get there.
i think that those were the hands of passengers that died in the train? dunno how that got there tho. i mean somebody's gotta collect the corpses and whoever did that must've made that too for the next passengers who need conflict to learn from them. that's my theory of what that thing is anyways.
According to an AMA, the Docent (that's its name) is a creature that originally removed Passenger's arms to add them to its cloak, but then evolved into "whatever it is now".
@@InfiniteThePhantomJackal that became my theory too but i didn't know how it would look like in the beginning since it would be armless... but now knowing that it was a cloak before really helps thank you!
