In this video I illustrate a concept to help explain how INFJ's can sometimes just know things about people. I give examples of how we do it, and explain why it is often so accurate. Please share your thoughts / comments.

I think the "coolness" factor of INFJ's is balanced by something else - loneliness and a sort of burden. I see Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings as a great example. We see him do so many "cool" things, see into others, help others, see the entire situation, not succumb to the temptations of the ring, be a hero - but what we don't see is all of the pages that aren't written in LOTR. Gandalf trudging through the woods. Alone. With nothing but his staff and his thoughts to keep him company. The horrors of his ability to see what may lie ahead, not by psychic abilities, but by the abilities to tie things together and predict a possible/likely outcome - as outlined in this video. There is a YIN and YANG to life, and when you are born with great positives, there are usually negatives as well. But we can work on those negatives, so there is that.

@Jay Scott As an INFJ, I can say affirmative. People do not see our inner turmoil. They see an independent or an aloof person in their minds, and cannot see our pain and sufferings. Its quite a burden at times. We are the people that want to save the world and others and its hard to communicate our feelings, because we become very passionate and sometimes turn people off. I think we scare people at times. They don't know how to take us. lol Gee sometimes I can't take myself because of these things.

I don't know about anyone else but I hate trivial things that does not coincide with the matter at hand. If I am in a business meeting, I don't want to do 'cheer-leading' hype to get positive results for/from co-workers. Things like these really turn me off. It often comes off as very fake and phony. Plus its forcing people to be unreal . Work is not a football game. These types of things I dread with a passion.(Ugh!)

Very true, I see it as a conflict of emotion over logic, now I see a grave importance of emotion however there is a time and a place where it is to be implyed. It's good to be motivated but it is not good to be ignorantly blinded by hype. My advice, logically tune your emotions so as your not fooled. If this at all makes sense. -a fellow infj

For me, it's actually quite simple. First, as an INFJ, I am fascinated by puzzles. Just as someone who loves math would find equations a simple concept, putting together random pieces of a puzzle happens at lightning speed, even the ruling out of pieces that don't fit. Being empathetic, all my senses are in tune to possibilities that would help make the puzzle fit together. Body language, even the slightest twitch of the lips, or droop in the shoulders, the rapid breath, skin color, body movement, etc., can tell me how a person is feeling at any given time. Rapid speech patterns give away emotional aspects. As my brain collects all the pieces to the puzzle, an overall picture emerges. It isn't ESP. The part that seems uncannily accurate is in putting the pieces together. INFJs are acutely aware of their surroundings, as well as the people within those surroundings. The entire set of pieces begin to come together, as paint in a large picture; experience through observing life over time gives us the accuracy. My assumptions are not always correct, but they are a majority of the time. There really aren't any secrets. Humans react similarly to situations, so I can recognize a pattern as it develops, giving me more pieces to the puzzle, until I have enough information to make an educated guess as to the situation before me. The rest is just fill in the blank. You don't need every puzzle piece in place to see the big picture, just enough to take in the general scene. As more information gets added, I discard what obviously doesn't fit, even if it's put there as a distraction, until I can most accurately assess the situation. By laying out the completed puzzle to the person, group, etc., it would seem uncanny or ESP, but it's just the culmination of facts, or puzzle pieces, to fit a presented picture. It's all about patterns and puzzles.

@roxyie1122
@roxyie1122 7 лет назад
The problem we INFJ-T have is that we cannot live without patterns and puzzles...as long as our "interest" is held, we continue; as soon as we solve the puzzle, our "interest" wanes and we invariably move on to the next pattern/puzzle. The key to having any romantic, social, physical, or financial interest stay long term is to never solve their pattern/puzzle that is them...their essence must remain intangible for us to need to keep them close, and for most of us, it must be a NEED.
@roxyie1122
@roxyie1122 7 лет назад
The tests have been as accurate as possible, and the more in-depth the testing, the more accurate the results. Since we are all individuals, we each will vary in our answers and thought processes, but the overall patterns will conform. So, while exceptions will exist, and some may be so close as to share boundaries with other types, for the most part the accuracy is there.

Infj are often unsure or don’t trust their intuition and often because those who are manipulative can try to cloud their judgments. We are always trying to work things out, where it be people or situations and we are continuously investigating and analyzing sometimes without even awareness. Eventually we form a conclusion about a person or situation based on the data we have collected over time and this data somehow predicts future outcomes kind of like an experiment but we prefer a longitudinal study and once we have gained enough evidence then this feeling of just “knowing” clicks into place, and once we have this feeling that just “clicks” inside of us and we gain perspective that can predict the future of a person, situation or even ourselves in the future with a person or persons. Once this thing clicks into place it has never been wrong and that’s the scary part

This is a pretty good way to sum this up. I usually feel like when I meet someone I see a glimpse of who they really are, and their motives and get a general instinctual feeling on what they might be covering or why they are hiding. Its hard to explain because its something truly simple but complex at the same time. Its like from viewing someone's speech patterns, how they present themselves while also taking into account how they are tring to present themselves I get a sense of what brought them to this point. Honestly its too the point that I can assume and cold read traumatic times in a persons life and sometimes even assume or recollect memories. Its like you feel someone as a person regardless of how they try to present themselves. You just know because you just feel it while not really making it a huge deal. ITs just a natural cycle. Its like the whole world is a large aquarium and you're outside of it tapping the glass.

I think we can create a system of repair very quickly in regards to ones emotions. We internalize others and try to repair their minds. Additionally, we create systems of repair in other areas of life, the environment for example. We are perfectionist so we try to repair at the deepest level possible and blame ourselves for not diving deeper. As a Christian I have found the deepest area to be spiritual so I dive beneath the surface of this physical universe.

ElusvOptmst1 I get that, it's like a massive sensory overload that you just want to stop, this is there reason why in between classes for me I need my alone time because I'm feeding into too many energy's and is also why in a group, if I'm talking to just one person and there are so many more people around us, I will try my hardest to focus on what your saying but Im also picking up what everyone else is saying so if I talk to someone and they want me to get serious. They need to get me alone, let me breath and then and only then can we talk.

Yeah I hate that being an INFJ is a thing now. Us real INFJ'S just shaking our heads.. At the same time, we ought not fool ourselves into thinking we know everything and can perceive everything accurately without error. We all will have varying degrees of these positives depending on our psychological or spiritual state. We also have a dark side we can't forget about. Let's not worship ourselves.

We take everything in and instantly restructure the info into a picture in our brain. It’s automatic and we know that the person is good or devious or scared or manipulative. I’ve had people try to manipulate me and without realizing it I’m already one step ahead of them. Ive been told that I’m brilliant but it’s really just an automatic process and sometimes I don’t really know what happened til later on when I’m thinking about the conversation when I’m alone.

Absolutely excellent. This has always been something I took for granted and never consciously recognized I could do, although I've known for some time that I am an INFJ. So true. I get frustrated sometimes by people who are focused on the facts and proof, bc it seems like they're only looking at surface level. You can't trust the factual content of what someone speaks, you have to look at the motivation and what's left unsaid.

+Terry Williams That's so funny, I was thinking on my way to work of having a conversation with someone and explaining why I speak the way I do, why I use the words I do and why I construct the sentences in the manner I do as well. I also pause and do other things he does quite often. I also seem to find it a bit difficult to construct the message I want to convey in a manner which will make it intelligible to the receiver when I'm talking about something, especially something important.... I tend to gravitate to writing things.
@BrandonThompsonBT
@BrandonThompsonBT 8 лет назад
+Wil Aquino Sounds very familiar to me. Do you find yourself prefacing a story/ idea/ anecdote in a way that some people can't follow? Like it's a new conversation, but you want to use a pronoun in the preface comment to get them ready for the bulk of the story. And then you introduce in the bulk of the story who/ what you're talking about. I have to try to curb this tendency, especially when I'm teaching or directing a group. I think it makes things difficult to follow for most people, especially when you don't already have a rapport with them.
@withwil5823
@withwil5823 8 лет назад
Yeah, I do that too... I've become more and more conscious of the fact that my way of communicating many things verbally is hard fo many people to follow... they may get the words used in most case, but the message itself isn't completely grasped and my preface is where I lose people at times.. However, the more I study about the different types, the more I'm learning to better adapt my style of communicating to my receivers... It's really hard when it's something I care about deeply t and have thought about a whole lot. I'm a total work in progress in that aspect.

Intuition is like sheets of transparent papers whit hints of information. The INFJ see’s through the hole package of transparent sheets, and hence we can see quite clear some patterns that anyone else have ever been seeing. This could come at a glance, or after 10 years. Thank you so much for this. I can relate completely! What I would like to add is that this is definitely and intuitive things that we use and it happens when we are in other people's energy fields. The deceiver can (try) to deceive but we know better because we are receiving the truth from the auric field and we will feel incongruency if we feel one thing but are told something different and I have come to the place where I just let people go now instead of arguing with them about it. If they do not get a handle on their deceiver, they end up "lost" because they haven't made the choice to be honest with themselves and they tend to misinterpret the information that is coming into their awareness. It's all energy and we are the ones who are most sensitive to all of it! Another tool that has helped me to understand myself better is IFS. www.selfleadership.org

I don't know... For me some of the Ni manipulation is pretty conscious... But I surpressed verbal Ti around for 15 years... So started thinking in my Ni concepts. I think the reason it seems unconscious is that many identify too greatly with their verbal Ti. BTW I surpressed the Verbal Ti so I could ignore my Ef which had become too painful at the time. So I don't recommend it.

In class we were talking about stereotypes and misconceptions of them. Then the teacher showed us a slogan of some campaign. It said 'There's no justice in prejudice. -Sam' (I had to translate it from my language and still make it catchy). My thought was 'Maybe Sam's a foreigner born in the USA'. Our immediate reaction to a 'white' name is a white child. (it had a better example in my language). So I asked if that is what the slogan meant by that. Of course, I was 'overthinking' the picture and no one understood why I thought this. I tried to explain but with each word coming out of my mouth I could feel that this was going nowhere. I'm just wondering if that might be Ni or Ne.

Niel Hwaiting the message usually gets across, but I never feel satisfied with the explanation. In my mind, the words just don't live up to the idea in my head.
@Hym138
@Hym138 7 лет назад
Niel Hwaiting well, that comes down to experience. If you know the other person well, you're going to get your point across easier. You get a feel for what words do and do not work. If you're having trouble communicating with certain people, it's possible your explanations are not practical enough for them. Using metaphors for example, can be a hit and miss. Try to experiment how you can communicate in different ways. Being able to facilitate to someone else's communication style is a great skill to have.

I have this problem as an INFJ. Many times I stumble over words and can't articulate my ideas not only because I have a lot going through my head at once but at the same time I'm perceiving how others are processing the information and I realize it's not registering and so then my speech suddenly reduces to shambles and I look like a fool who doesn't know what I'm talking about. The truth is with infj is that a lot of what we know is a result of a mental process that is the opposite of the kind of mental process used in communicating. So it's hard to explain anything we know because it's like trying to relearn something you already know but now you need to do it in a way you never learned it in the first place.

Hi, First off, I love your videos! I just wanted to put something out there. I'm very much a very confirmed INFP. I have a certification in MBTI as well (I just did it for the fun of it). What you are describing in with the head drawing and the blank canvas...thoughts, ideas, going onto the canvas as lines....connecting thougths, ideas that are "out there" with each other...that is exactly what I do. To get right to the point...how is what you are describing different from Ne? Much of it just seems to describe "intuition", in general. I note that you did start talking about seeing "parts" of people like you did in another video and seeing that there is another side to that (such as a person who talks as if they are happy, but you sense a distressed part of them)....I do that all of the time, too. How is this specifically Ni vs. Ne? Why is what you are describing not Ne as well? Again...I'm not being critical....I just want you to think about it. I want to know what you come up with. I've seen your other videos and realize that Ni is something very different from what I originally thought. It's not connected to feeling. That's really interesting. It's made me think that I know nothing of Ni. It is my sixth function after all. You are trying to describe some very difficult concepts and put them into words. My hat is off to you! You're doing a great job with a very difficult task!!!!

Hi Alesia NIchols , Thanks for the feedback. I haven't watched my video in a while, so I am going off memory and what you are saying. I think the best way to respond is that everything in the video I describe except the arrival of the Ni insight I describe is unconscious. So in the video I am trying to describe what I believe the Ni does outside of conscious awareness. The whole video is about the INFJ and relating to other people and not about conscious linking of seemingly random external ideas and concepts. So for my part I not think I am talking about Ne in this video. Does that answer your question and thoughts?
@cindy9206
@cindy9206 9 лет назад
Introvert Power I've been looking at other videos comparing Ni and Ne. Some of the things they state are that Ne produces ideas, generates ideas....while Ni gathers ideas in, keeps them, and organizes them. So...I can see how your drawing relates to that. Of course, it's not ideas you are referring to, since you are talking about a relationship, but "readings" of people, how they behave over time, their body language, what they talk about, etc. If this resonates with you, then I must say that this is exactly what I do. However...with Ne as my extraverted function I am consistantly exploring new ideas, new experiences, etc. I consider myself an "explorer". I love the Star Treck statement of "to seek out new life, new civilizations, to bodly go where no one has gone before". So...I'm very Ne. It's just that, when coming up with these new ideas...I also do a comparison as you show in your drawing with connecting the lines. I also collect ideas and information. So...I'm not sure how this "relating" analogy of Ni is different from Ne. I'm wondering if relationships are based more on the Feeling aspect of both INFPs and INFJs, not their intuition. (I'm going to have to "mull" over that one). On one video it was mentioned that INFJs with Ni will keep to two or three ideas and collect info to with those ideas. I've seen my INFJ friend do this over and over again. He doesn't let go of his basic paradigm that he's come up with. So...anyway...that's okay... I know this is a very difficult thing to describe, especially in a written format like this. Thanks for the videos. They're great!

I always say that my head knows more then I do. It's like the internet, web or a cloud. Always making connections while there is this music playing in the background in a loop with all the instruments and everything, haha. I don't have to turn on the radio. I apparently have this capacity to store a vast amount of information. So I know a lot but how or when did I learn these things? I have no idea and I can't lay it out in a logical order....I just "know" stuff.......

I find myself so in tune to pieces of a puzzle and possibilities of solutions that I've learned to read between the lines in a conversation, even if it's only ever a written one. For example, I once was in a written conversation, on the Internet, with a total stranger, yet I could accurately guess her situation almost down to the letter. How I came to the correct t assessment, when she hadn't given me specifics to the case, had her believing I was psychic, when all I did was use my past experiences to help me gain insight into a present dilemma, and so putting the pieces together gave the logical conclusion, which another person would probably never have thought of, let alone had the bravery to suggest it. (The individual was suffering from DID, brought on by being a constantly programmed captive to a diabolical group.)

And like that as well as instantly taking all information in And applying not only the best logical thinking to the scenario but also the best emotional thinking. Ok, there's something freaky going on here. This is the second video of yours that I completely relate to!! I again can 'predict' what you're going to say next (not in a psychic way, just I completely understand what you're talking about. Please could you explain why I identify with Ni so much, but I'm ENFP? I'm going to watch some more of your vids, and see if the same happens. I have read that ENFPs are the mirror, or something like that, of INFJs, but I'm such a novice at all of this, so not too sure what it means, although I think I understand. Ta, :)
@scott.morgan
@scott.morgan 10 лет назад
It is hard to say for sure, as it could just be that the content of the video resonated with you or it could be more to do with cognitive functions. One possibility could be that you are a fellow "NF", so this may help explain it. Also, in relation to 'the mirror' analogy, while I am not sure of the context of the mirror that you are referring to, perhaps it connects with the - INFJ's have Ni and Fe, and ENFP's have Ne and Fi. Perhaps the INFJ's Ni insight delivered through the Fe function resonates with the ENFP's Fi allowing for Ne to get a sense of the direction and concept (big picture) of the INFJ's insight. I know for me, that I often arrive at the conclusion of a conversation or discussion long before others do. And when I read something, I often have an insight into what I am reading, only to read my insight in the next line or paragraph. Does this help at all?

I am thinking out loud here... I wonder if the gathered 'information' you speak of, gets collected by and filtered through all of the INFJ functions? Or is it that the thinking, feeling, sensing is what we use (unconsciously or automatically) to make sense of the infoation. To give it a 'picture' or 'language' .. (the knowing)..? I feel this is how I function.

It takes you longer to explain then when it happens. I look at it as being able to solve there puzzle but they need to do it themselves. If you try to explain it they get mad because you figure it out so easy and they go against it because it was so easy for you. I wish I could do it for myself.....I need another infj friend to figure me out! We observe, figure it out and have an answer but with humans there is more than one way to get there.
