As above, yes. This has just been a very expensive exercise in evading responsibility. Over a million in defense costs when the only acceptable outcome was a plea of full responsibility, coupled with the sort of incompetence that should lead to dismissal.
This has obviously cost a fortune to the injured parties, to the nightclub, and to the public, via the police, To what end? To defend that which is clearly indefensible. This matter is a disgrace, and the fact that the police have felt it acceptable that the Victorian public should pay for this misbegotten attempt to avoid blame just makes it all worse. The legal costs and compensation costs should be garnisheed from the salaries of members of the police force. Then we need an explanation of why the responsible officers should not be dismissed.
