Infocus IN119HDx Color Wheel Connector Repair/Replacement

This Infocus IN119HDx DLP Video Projector was shipped in by a viewer after they ran into some issues with the color wheel.
The connector and traces were damaged and required the use of a donor board and connector. I did my best to match the board maker but as you will see I ran into a few hickups. At the end of it all, things are working and the projector was sent back to the owner.

I like the way you heat the board from the back so you don't damage the plastic connector. Here's a little tip: use Rose's alloy next time. Apply it to the contact pads of the connector using a soldering iron tip. When a Rose's alloy is mixed with lead-free solder, it lowers the melting point of the solder. Thus, much less heat is required to desolder the connector.

I actually do use low melt alloy sometimes(chipquik brand usually). It's a fantastic product for all sorts of desoldering uses. My concern with using it in projectors(and reason I did not use it here), is certain areas get very hot. When using low melt alloy I find I need to clean it from the surfaces extremely thoroughly or it will contaminate the new solder and possibly cause the connection to fail in the future at a lower temp. I'm more comfortable using low melt in areas that are not susceptible to being hot. That connector would be near the heat of the lamp when re-installed so I would be hesitant to use it. I'm also trying to show people methods that do not require special materials to perform. This is good advice though. Low melt solder can be a god-send in many situations. I'll have to demonstrate it sometime. Thank you for the tip!

Buenas tardes sabes como hago para hacer un bypass para que encienda el proyector sin lampara, es que tiene 5 cables de colores y no se cual puentiar en un infocus sp1080

Sorry if it isn't the right place to ask that: Have you ever had a case of a BenQ 1070+ Fan #4 not spinning? Which causes overheating under 5min. I saw other people having the same problem but never found a solution. It's an "old" model but maybe there's a solution. Thank you in advance.

oh yeah, it happened to mine 1075(basically the same). Its the intake fan near the DMD. Needs to be replaced. Check ebay. or if you don't mind waiting a week or so, contact Time electronics for another. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com is their contact info. they ship from China but use DHL and take paypal so everything is safe.

hello @fixitfrank, I cleaned my gt1080 optoma projector about 3 years ago and for that cleaning I messed up a 5-pin micro connector by stretching the small cable that goes from the power supply to the motherboard, my question is where Can I get that cable and the 5-pin micro connector? I'm a fan of yours on youtube help me please! I live in Mexico 😢

oh no. Thats the ballast control wire. If you cant shove the wires back into the connector or solder them to the board, then you will need to find another cable. An HD26, HD28 should also have the same wire. I am not sure where to find one in Mexico though. If you don't mind ordering from China, contact the folks I use. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com send them a picture of the old wire and include the model. I don't think it will cost much at all.

Thanks for this video! I have almost the same model (IN118) and the colorwheel makes noise but it dissapears if the projektor is upside down. Is it possible to lubricate it?

In theory yes, but you will be better off cleaning the piece with some alcohol. Oil/lubricant will cause dust to stick. You actually want it clean. However before you even do that, I would check the screws holding the optics. I bet the vibration is a loose screw allowing the plastic casing to vibrate with the wheel. I would clean the wheel hub as a last resort. I have a video called "last ditch color wheel repair". It has some tips

you know, there isn't a specific part # that I go by. I always buy them as "model # colorwheel". As long as the segments are in the right order and hte little sticker on the hub is in the right spot, you are good to go. I'm sure infocus has a specific part #, but they wont have parts for these anymore. Aftermarket is your best option. I use folks out of china called Time electronics. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com and they can help you. they ship DHL and take paypal so its all above board.

Hi FixitFrank, I've got overheating problem with my infocus in119HDX, the projector turn of after 30 min et the led temp lamp flashes... I saw you're video on the infocus in 2128HDX but the ventirad doesn't appear dirty... Moreover, I don't see any apparent damage on the motherboard... Have you got any ideas to help me please?

ok good! A new lamp with a bad IR filter can cause this. That is why I ask. I suspect you have a non-reporting fan.
