Everything you need to know before mapping with a Deebot
Information you need to know before mapping on an Ecovacs Deebot Vacuum
USERS: BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAPPING FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Written by James F Laurie
If you have a vacuum with navigation and you have the following settings on your vacuum, before you start mapping, be sure Advanced Mode, Continuous Cleaning. after you have completed mapping, you will want to enable multi-floor mapping. (I’ll detail that more later)
First off you will want to find a good location for your charging dock or Auto Empty Dustbin.
Per Ecovacs instructions:
Note: The distances is recommended but not always required.
“Place the Charging Dock on a level floor surface against the wall with the base perpendicular to the ground. Keep the immediate area 1.5m (5’) in front of the charger and 0.5m (1.6’) on both sides of the charger clear of objects and reflective surfaces.”
If you are planning on using your mopping feature, you will definitely NOT want the dock on the carpet. The vacuum, by design, will NOT run on carpet, while in mopping mode. The mopping mode is enabled when the mopping plate is installed.
It’s should be obvious, but no mopping while mapping.
BE SURE ALL THE DOORS TO THE ROOMS YOU WANT TO MAP, STAY OPEN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
The vacuum will very likely want to avoid or not like very dark flooring, due to the drop sensors. (This can be resolved, if you don’t have a legitimate reason for your drop sensors such as stairs, by covering your drop sensors with solid tape. (More information can be provided if needed.)
Also floor level mirrors or reflections can interfere with a clean map, think about how you can try to avoid them, if possible, they possibly can also cause issues later during vacuuming. I have a suggestion if your interested. If it maps with a mirror it will look strange because it will show a room where there is not one, this usually does not cause a problem when vacuuming because it can’t go there anyway.
Charge to 100%!
I would highly recommend mapping in QUIET mode to conserve your battery and for other reasons, it uses a lot less battery, at least if you have a large home, to keep the vacuum from needing to recharge during the process. You’ll thank me later.
The T8 and later models you turn on quite mode by going into Cleaning Preferences at the bottom left and disable Cleaning Preferences and the select the fan with the line through it.
On 950 and older models there should be a Quiet mode in the Vacuum Power settings in the menu.
Disable Auto-Boost Suction to keep it from increasing suction on carpet.
Note: If at all possible, it’s preferable to have no interference with the vacuum while mapping, so pick up or block anything or area that you think may interfere with the mapping. You will have the No-Go lines to control where your vacuum goes, after you have mapped. So hands off the vacuum , if possible, while mapping.
Note: The map will only be saved when the vacuum docks back in the charger by itself.
Ignore any unusual paths it may take during mapping. It may not make sense, but appparently it has a plan, just be patient and wait until it is completely finished. You will not see that strange behavior during vacuuming.
After it has completed mapping and returned back to the charging dock, it should save the map.
At this point you’ll want to enable Multi-Floor Mapping
Multi-Floor Maps is accessed from an icon at the bottom left of the map page that looks like two pages and a pencil. For some reason these options are turned off by default. You will want them on!
I have no idea why these are off by default. I can’t think of a reason you would not want them on.
The newer T9 screens may differ & some older models won’t have all these features.
After mapping is complete go ahead, only after you have completed your room merge and division, press the save button in multi floor mapping 💾 (looks like 3.5 floppy disk). The save button will disappear once your map is saved. And it will show above your map as saved
If when it’s done and you don’t have a map in the multi floor area page or the Area section, you also won’t have a save button, what that is telling me is that for some reason your map is not completed. Most of the time it completes on the first run, but periodically, it may take another run, this has happened to me a couple of times, and the way I fixed it was just run another Auto Clean.
Hope this helps. Please message me with any comments or suggestion.

COVERING DROP SENSORS: I tried this for my basement mapping. With the floor colors and doors thresholds, it would not go to certain rooms, or just partially. I covered the drop sensors with masking tape and it could map the whole basement properly. I also put a piece of tape on top of the unit to remember to remove the tape under. The unit would have fall in the stairs otherwise. Thanks for this tip, I was at my 5th try.

Hi - your post was great. I got the same info from the support team, but you shouldn't need to call them to get it to work first up. From what I've read, the vacuum is great, but the app is awful. And that seemed to be the case for me. Finally the mapping worked for me after 3 goes. I have a large single level house, both tiled and carpeted. It took hours as it needed to recharge several times and that takes 4 hours each. The first go at mapping we started at 8am, and by 10pm I pressed what I was thinking was the pause button as it still needed to do the main bedroom, and I didn't want it to come in and wake us up. But that cancelled the whole thing and it needed to start from scratch the next day. Next day we did it again, letting it come in to the bedroom, which was about 1am and it got stuck in between a chair and a wall. Ahhh. It had done about 98% at that stage, but because I moved it slightly, it shut down and I had to redo it yet again, a third time. This time I changed it to low suction, and that made it quicker as it didn't need to charge as many times - and finally success. But I'm too scared to touch the app as I'm worried I will do something to wipe the map. I'd love to have 4 maps of the same thing (without having to remap each time - ie by just copying). One which I can use for the whole house for say a monthly clean (covering rooms we basically never use), the 2nd where I can set up no go zones so just the main walkways & kitchen are vacuumed each 2nd day, the 3rd map so I can have a larger area which we regularly use have vacuumed each week, and a 4th where I have just the kitchen and entry door areas mopped say weekly. Is this by any chance possible? I have a Deebot N8 Pro

Hate you had all those issues. That silent mode really makes a difference. I don’t use scheduling but they seem pretty flexible on what you can setup a schedule for. This will come in handy if your map ever messes up. RESETTING YOUR MAP BACK TO THE ORIGINAL if you do not have the “RESTORE” button, on the top right of the map editing page. (Appears to currently only be on the T8.) I believe the T9 also has that feature. Written by James F Laurie I do recommend you already have multi floor mapping enabled and you go ahead and if it there press that save icon on that page, after you have completed mapping. It should look like a little disk. At the top right of your map in multi-floor mapping. (If your map is already showing saved the icon will not be there.) After you press the icon it should show you on top of that page the the map is saved. Plus the icon disappears. RESETTING: If for any reason you map messes up and needs to be reset as of the current time, unless improved, this is the only way to do it. Theoretically in some instances it suppose to reset its if when put in the dock, but don’t count on it. So with the vacuum in the dock, power off your vacuum, wait around 15 seconds, then power it back on, if all goes well it should reset to your original map. If that doesn’t work, take the vacuum off the dock and turn off for about 5 min then put it back on and turn it on. You will need to hear the startup sound, if you don’t you likely need to try again and try leaving it off a little longer. “You will likely need to refresh your screen by backing up to the first screen where you saw a picture of your vacuum on your app and open up the map again for it to show the updated map in the app.” You may need to try it more than once and maybe slow down on turning it back on. Hope this helps! Update 12-9-2021 My Facebook group Deebot Tips, Tricks f Troubleshooting facebook.com/groups/177244533630083/

If your putting the tape on for dark surfaces, it will need to stay on. The drop sensors will always confuse dark surfaces as drops.

James, my new N8 Pro + is not saving the entire down stairs on the first or second auto clean. it did make a new map of the master room up stairs but it has not saved a map for the down stairs yet and it ran twice already. it also does not start where it left off, it starts to create a whole new map of down stairs. is this normal or is my down stairs just big enough that it may take a couple times to complete the mapping? will it eventually make a full map of it?

MULTI-FLOOR MAPPING Written by Jacob Vaynshteyn You can fully map up to two floors. When you have one normal map saved, take the dock and robot to second floor. (You have the option of purchasing a separate dock to leave on the second floor) Put robot on dock. You need to hear “I’m starting to charge” and then something about how it had detected changes to the environment. In the app it should Not be showing the first map. You should see a blank floor. Then let it clean on auto. If it doesn’t give the messages take robot off dock turn it off and then back on then put on dock wait for messages. It may take a few tries to get the message about detecting a new environment. If you don’t hear “I’m starting to charge” check your power cable at the wall and also on the back of the dock. After mapping for both floors is complete and saved, it’s recommended to move the dock to the floor you intend to clean to make sure the robot is started in the exact same spot every time. This will help it figure out which floor it’s on. Also, by moving the dock, it enables you to hear “I’m starting to charge” snd the other message about seeing a change in the environment. It is however possible to move the robot without moving the dock if necessary.

Do you have issues mapping another level? It never seems to saves the second level? We bring it up and then back down to the charger when complete. I have heard some people bring the dock to the second level which is annoying.
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 года назад
I don’t have another level, but in testing I never had an issue. You only have to take the dock to the second level to map it. It won’t save the map until it returns to the dock. After that, I just recommend starting where your dock was.

Yeah the mapping process has to go primarily uninterrupted. Your best bet is to just delete your map and start over. Preferably with you suction turned down to conserve battery & make sure Continuous Cleaning is enabled. Deebot Tips Tricks & Troubleshooting facebook.com/groups/177244533630083/?ref=share_group_link USERS: BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAPPING FOR THE FIRST TIME. This article was initially to cover the N8, T8 and older models. Note: The T9 & the newer X1 & T10 series, some option and controls have changed, but the basic concept is the same If you have a vacuum with navigation and you have the following settings on your vacuum, before you start mapping, on N8 and older models be sure Continuous Cleaning also called Resumed Clean, and Advanced Mode are enabled. For some reason these options were turned off by default. You will want them on! The T9 and newer vacuum screens will differ and not have all these settings & some older models won’t have all these features. DOCK LOCATION First off you will want to find a good location for your Charging Dock or Auto Empty Dustbin. If you have a very large floor plan, you will likely want to select a central location, the vacuum very likely has a distance limitation. It’s been reported to me that you may be looking at a 20 meter distance limitation. Note: The distances are recommendations, but not always required. Per Ecovacs instructions: “Place the Charging Dock on a level floor surface against the wall with the base perpendicular to the ground. Keep the immediate area 1.5m (5’) in front of the charger and 0.5m (1.6’) on both sides of the charger clear of objects and reflective surfaces.” If you are planning on using your mopping feature, you will definitely NOT want the dock on the carpet. The vacuum, by design, will NOT run on carpet, while in mopping mode. The mopping mode is enabled when the mopping plate is installed. It’s should be obvious, but no mopping while mapping. AFTER FULLY CHARGING YOUR VACUUM BE SURE ALL THE DOORS TO THE ROOMS YOU WANT TO MAP, STAY OPEN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MAPPING IN THE LOWEST POSSIBLE SUCTION SETTING/MODE. It conserves your battery, at least if you have a large home, to keep the vacuum from needing to recharge during the mapping process. It will also keep your vacuum dust bin from becoming overly stuffed, since your doing your whole house for the first time in one run. The N8, T8 and later models you turn on quite mode by going into Cleaning Preferences at the bottom left and disable Cleaning Preferences and the select the fan with the line through it. On 950 and older models there should be a Quiet mode in the Vacuum Power settings in the menu. On model like the T10 they went back to using “Quiet” on setting. Disable Auto-Boost Suction to keep it from increasing suction on carpet. Something that caught me by surprise on the first and only time I mapped with a T10. Unlike with previous vacuums, that I’ve used, that showed mapping in real time, the map didn’t show anything happening. It wasn’t until I backed out of the app and restarted, was I able to see the mapping progress. So don’t panic. Another recommendation for daily use, check and verify the time zone is correct and set Do Not Disturb if warranted. Personally I often will start my vacuum at night during DND, it just won’t empty during scheduled intervals, (if your vacuum has that option) or empty automatically when the job is completed. DARK FLOORING The vacuum will very likely want to avoid or not like very dark flooring, due to the drop sensors. (This can be resolved, if you don’t have a legitimate reason for your drop sensors such as stairs, by covering your drop sensors with solid tape. (More information can be provided if needed.) It may not make sense, but appparently it has a plan, just be patient and wait until it is completely finished. You will not see that strange behavior during vacuuming. Hi there, We just purchased an Ecovac N10, and for the most part we’re really happy with its performance. However it really seems to struggle with one room - our living room. It’s mapped successfully and has given the room a ‘zone’, but only hovers the parameter of the room, or just finds it’s self going around in circles with no logical route (works fine in all other rooms). Possibly worth noting that our living room is carpeted and the rest of the ground floor, where it’s working fine, is wooden. Any support greatly appreciated.

I’m still having trouble mapping even after your video. It will only vacuum a small area and then go back to the charger. I’ve deleted the maps. I only have one large studio apartment. So it shouldn’t be that difficult. It’s all one level. Although I did turn on the multi floor mapping as I have an area rug and the kitchen tile is white and the hard floor is laminate. Any other suggestions? I may have to return this as I can’t seem to get it to map correctly. It does not seem to want to go on my area rug. But when I put it on the area rug it vacuums just fine and goes back to the hard floor just fine. It’s not overly thick carpet.

I have the 920 model and after 4X trying to map the house something different is the problem each time. I have about a 2000 sq area house; after 1 hr the robot has used up the the battery and returns to its station. Hours later it has 100% battery but doesn’t finish the next 1/3 of the house until the following morning? Why?? Today it got stuck under the dining room stairs (never had that problem before) so I had to push the app button to restart the robot after moving the chair. Although the map is still visible on my phone previously after the final 3rd mapping it didn’t allow me to save the map because I had to restart it due to being stuck. All my settings you mentioned are correct minus the quiet mode which I will turn on next time if it doesn’t finish this time. Tech support is worthless. I am seriously thinking about returning it to Costco. I am impressed with its cleaning! Maybe you have a better answers than their tech support. The app and robot isn’t too difficult to work and understand but I have to get this mapping done to access the nice features.
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 года назад
The reason it’s not likely starting till the next morning is because you have Do Not Disturb turned on, which is exactly what it’s for, so it won’t wake you in the middle of the night. The 920 doesn’t have a big battery so you really want to use quiet mode. As far as it keep getting stuck, it sounds like just bad luck. I may have instances here and there, but it usually doesn’t interfere with my mapping. But sometimes it does. Anytime something comes up that messes you up, try to avoid that situation next time. But you’ll get there. I’m sorry your getting frustrated, I get most frustrated having to wait for the battery, that’s why I prefer the 950 or T8 with a much larger battery. (3+ hrs compared to 100 min on the 920) However of course it’s more expensive and I’m not sure if Costco currently has the 950 at your location. They don’t have the 950 in the US.

Thanks for your response and yep I had the do not disturb button on. You would have thought tech support would have mentioned that! I thought I had it set midnight to 8AM but didn’t. So you were right. Literature says 100 min but I can only get 60 to 64 min out of the battery? It started up immediately after taking it of the do not disturb mode and this is the last part of the house it currently mapping. Fingers crossed the map will be saved despite I had to use the app to to restart the robot do to it being stuck.

Does anyone if taping the sensors will interfere with auto empty version. I havent received my recently bought the n8+ pro. I have thick black lines in my area rugs so thats why i was thinking of covering the sensors.
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 Год назад
That will likely be what you need to do due to the black lines. For some reason the Auto Empty station does not like white tape on the front 2 sensors, (it makes it not function) but I’ve found no issue with any other solid color tape I have tried. I personally prefer using painters tape, if you have it. It comes off easily when you want it to and doesn’t leave sticky residue. But any solid colored tape you have should work.

Hello sir can we leave it at charging doc for a night or a day!? Will it make any problem? Will it auto shut down/off ?
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 года назад
It’s designed to be left on and on the charging dock at all times. The battery will go into trickle charge mode. Just enough to keep it topped off. The vacuum does go in a standby mode after not in use. Also you want it to stay connected to the WiFi, so it’s ready to go at any time.

I’ll have to verify, but I believe you just hold the WiFi button down for like 15 seconds.

It makes a difference on your model. Try restoring the original map. By doing a slow power cycle. No guarantee Deebot Helpful Tips m.facebook.com/groups/177244533630083/permalink/1054237929264068/?

RESETTING YOUR SAVED MAP BACK TO THE ORIGINAL Update 1-2023 Written by James F Laurie Assuming your vacuum does not have the “RESTORE” button or option, on the top right of the map editing page. (Appears to currently only be on the T8, but not on the newer N8s.) I believe the T9 and newer vacuums have a backup and restore function. On N8 and older vacuums, I do recommend you already have multi floor mapping enabled and you go ahead and if it there press that save icon on that page, after you have completed mapping. It should look like a little disk. At the top right of your map in multi-floor mapping. (If your map is already showing saved the icon will not be there.) After you press the icon it should show you on top of that page the the map is saved. Plus the icon disappears. RESETTING (and you do not have the restore function): If for any reason you map messes up and needs to be reset as of the current time this is the only way to do it on older models. Theoretically in some instances a lost map is suppose to reset when put back in the dock, but, that’s not been my experience, so don’t count on it. So with the vacuum in the dock, power off your vacuum, wait around 15 seconds, then power it back on, if all goes well it should reset to your original map. If that doesn’t work, take the vacuum off the dock and turn off for a couple of minutes then put it back on and turn it on. This and other articles are also located in Deebot’s Helpful Tips. A group located under Announcements or follow this link facebook.com/groups/763911817542596/?ref=share_group_link

My deebot n8 went offline and now I have to reset and remap but it's not ramapping in the right direction it goes in one bedroom the misses the other bedrooms and keeps remapping other rooms. How do I fix this
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 месяца назад
Does it say it’s completed mapping? If not, just let it continue, it sometimes behaves very unorganized when mapping. You just have to let it go through its paces until done. Only troubleshooting I can think of is cleaning the lidar. If you’re still having problems, I recommend posting in my group. There are many knowledgeable and helpful users. @Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 года назад
I believe multi floor enables the floor save option, but it’s been so long, and I always just turn it on because of habit. It does not cause any issue being enables if you don’t need it. Next time I map I will try without it on.

I dont want my T8 AIVI to mop, but i cant remove the mopping pad. How can i stop it from mopping? In the application there is no option for water levels or whatever, i dont know why..
@Hotsparks66
@Hotsparks66 2 года назад
In the application there is a setting for how much water to spray if that’s what your looking for. I have a video that goes through the app if you need. Let me know if this video helps you get the mopping plate off. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KARRmzCNdHE.html If all else fails, removing the water tank with the mopping plate attached, will also disable the mopping function.

RESETTING YOUR MAP BACK TO THE ORIGINAL if you do not have the “RESTORE” button, on the top right of the map editing page. (Appears to currently only be on the T8.) Thank you! I did a new mapping and now I have two maps saved.Saving the second was only possible after doing some editing work on the map---splitting etc. When changing the floor the other floor still shows up to be active. I do not know yet, how to choose the active floor on purpose.
@Hotsparks66

Theoretically, it’s suppose to determine the floor automatically.
