TJ, By heating it with our infrared heater there is no loss of oils ( AC ). After the area has been scarified, we add a rejuvenating oil into the heated asphalt that both softens the asphalt and replaces the oils that has oxidized over the life of the pavement.
The bitumen(tar) only starts to burn off at 275F. Generally we will heat to 225-250 so the asphalt properties are not affected. This has been proven by Marshall tests on re-heated asphalt on joints by Tennessee and Arkansas DOT. These reports are available. Wr recommend addition of asphalt rejuvenator to help the oxidized asphalt become more pliable again and if the asphalt is overheated, this will help as well. . Tests sections have proven to extend the life of the pavement by 5 to 10 years.
Decca Robbo when done properly a infrared repair will last for many years, and can out last a typical saw cut repair. Like any process, there is a right way and a wrong way. We have all expierenced bad crack sealing , seal coating and paving jobs, that does not mean those process do not work. The right equipment has to be used and the crew running needs to be trained to use the equipment safley and , efficiently to allow for a long lasting repair
