Dams have been around for millions of years, helping humanity control the resources around us. Now they are masterpieces of engineering, with the biggest structure on earth being a dam. But doing something mini has the same merit as doing it at a large scale. And here we bring you three examples. Watch this review of three amazing mini dams and tell us what you think. Enjoy!

@@leviathan1082 Almost correct. Without a load there is electricity but no power consumption, thus little resistance. The higher the load the higher the power consumption and thus load. This btw is not a viable power production means. It suffices if all you need is some lighting assuming you add a bit of battery capacity, but that is probably just about it.

I liked this video just a few inquires though. Why did you use straight impeller blades vs the more efficient pelton curve blades or impulse impeller design? also you have an open core around the shaft vs a filled/walled space around it to prevent the water from dropping through the core and essentially creating drag on the rising blades. Was this intentional? The input jet is also offset from the outflow plane. It seems like the jet would be better in plane with the outflow, was there a reason for this? I liked the mini dams, they were very cool. My personal favorite is the kaplan axial since you can split off small overflow dams 1-2 meters in height and return the flow back to the main body for local power without adversely affecting wildlife

Fantastic fantastic stuff, both the meticulousness of the build and the visuals and explanations. There are a few benefits of dams and a few negatives of river generators that are ignored. A dam benefits by storing water above it, and therefore increasing the flow (and electrical output) through the dam. The river generator, while effective at an individual level, if implemented at a city level, would not only affect flow but would heat the water high enough that oxygen is no longer saturated ...resulting in dead fish and dead plantation. No matter how you do something, there will be negative impacts that have to be adjusted for.

if you build 100 units as seen on this video you have just about enough power to run one TV or Laptop. if you want to generate enough power to run a single hairdryer you would need about 1000 units and that is IF this setup is capable of generating 1W at 110v. which it most likely is not.

Yep that's precisely why commercial hydroelectric stations have at least SOME form of filtration that the water goes through prior to entering the plumbing that ultimately leads to the turbines. The second part of your statement was also correct, as they want to increase efficiency to the max, so they get more bang for their buck. Also ends up helping out the customer as well.

wonderful! Why does the turbine stop at the end every time something is connected? maravilloso! por que se frena al turbina al final cada vez que se conecta algo??
@tofo2
@tofo2 Год назад
It slows down because the free spinning speed is the rate at wich the turbine is synchronous to the water flow and does not alter the path of the water molecules. As the electric alternator open voltage is connected to a load, a current will flow through the winding causing a torque. The way turbines cause torque is by changing the direction of the liquid and no change can take place at free spin. It has to slow down. If it slows down to zero it will have a high torque but no work will be excerted, as energy is force multiplied by distance or torque multiplied by angular displacement. Power is force multiplied by velocity or torque multiplied by angular velocity. Both factors are required for power. You can not have power if rotation speed is zero and not when it is at free spin. It will settle at a speed where the torque of the turbine equals that of the altrrnator. If the alternator torque is higher than that of the turbine the difference in torque will deaccelerate the rotating system until there is an exact balance. If the voltage of the alternator is 100 volts at 100 RPM and it is connected to a 1 volt battery it will rotate at 1 RPM. At that low speed it may have a high torque but the speed is so low the product of the two becomes useless. Voltages and gear ratios has to be selected to a point where the product of speed and torque is at its maximum. At that point water will slow down. If all energy would be possible to extract water would pile up. And at zero speed water will not follow the curvature of the blades and rather curve off at low performance, long before the obstacle. Like with a paddle or a water wheel where the shape has little effect.

I knew someone that created a power turbine that used Mercury and the heart differential between the inside and outside of his shed to create a power generator. It worked by heating and expanding the Mercury outside to lift it up and over a drain, as it drained it moved several turbines to generate power it then moved into the shed where it cooled before being added back into the pool to be reheated. I'm not quite sure how the injector part worked as it was a sealed system because you know, Mercury, but I think he said something about using the weight of the Mercury as it fell to push the pump. Not entirely sure how much energy he got or if it in at any given time but I know he built it.
