They did the same thing for Rafal Blechacz in 2005.

Exactly. Because Chopin demands virtuosic technique but also a very intimate interpretation. My view is that Ingolf Wunder won, the judges refused to recognize that to suit an agenda that has nothing to do with music.. And certainly he has had a distinguished career since. His playing is revelatory.

@@4Topwood Adveeda got better marks at every round of the competition. Wunder came 2nd cause he was not as good on other rounds as with this concerto. Nothing to do with the fact she's a woman, though for once it was a woman, she got her victory tarnished by sexists and people for whom a 2nd prize was not enough for Wunder. It's not an inclusive agenda byt the competition, it's a sexist one by too many people.

@@kurasfx1720 dont talk about the politics matters and hope we concentrate on the music topic. The concerto is the final piece and that is played at the final stage. Ingolf was the best concerto playet and score showed his greatness in the total point, however, rules have changed within the compeition period out of sudden and the final result came out for her winning.

Yes, of course, this concert could not possibly be played any better. Mr. Wunder is SUPERB, but he comes from the "wrong" ethnic background. He is not Polish, not Russian, not Jewish, nor is he Asian, so how could "they" POSSIBLY have ever even CONSIDERED letting him win? I know that's an ugly thing to say, but I feel deep in my bones that it must be true. Van Cliburn's 1958 victory in Moscow, must have been a FLUKE, and then look how shabbily he was treated ever afterward. Avdeeva is an excellent player, but she is physically unattractive, and has a rather grim, too businesslike platform manner that totally lacks charisma. Unlike Ingolf Wunder's infectious enthusiasm for his task and full-blooded, unabashed "glorying in the flower," there is no evidence of JOY in Avdeeva's playing. Yes of COURSE Ingolf Wunder should have won. But the world is what it is, and always will be, I'm afraid. Have you heard Aljosa Jurinic yet? If not, you're in for a treat.

Also, females haven't won for decades. They would like to have a female winner to show political correctness. I strongly support gender or racial equality but I hate any kind of gender or racial influence in a competition. In my opinion, the same thing happened in 2017 Oscar, too (Moonlight won because of its racial background). Isn't letting the minority win a kind of bias itself?

Oh, there's also another thing worth mentioning. One of the jury in the competition is once Mr. Wunder's teacher. Maybe they gave him 2nd because they didn't want to be considered as flavoring a jury's student.

The winner was and is Mrs. Yulianna Avdeeva because she deserved it. It was Martha Argerich, who was a member in the jury and she has learned how to use her ears and intellect.

@@_ydhdh9340Many of the competitors deserved to win because they are all wonderful in different ways. Him and Yulianna were both amazing, but there could only be one winner and the jury liked Yulianna better. That’s just how competitions are. But both of them have successful careers and global recognition, and not just them, but many other great competitors too in this competition. So in a way, everyone was a winner.
