cutting the sides of the nail actually cause ingrown nails to worsen because it will encourage more growth in that direction! I learned that the hard way :)

It depends how you cut the sidewalls. Never leave corners because they are the ones that can worsen the situation❤️

Using clippers was the culprit for me. I was in really awful pain one day and my husband used those little scissors you get in a nail kit and I instantly felt relief from the pain. He always uses them now to cut my nails for me and I haven't had an ingrown toenail since.

I do believe she said that the client had had her ingrown removed surgically so trimming the sidewalls may have been ok in this instance. Otherwise I totally agree, trimming those sidewalls is a nono.

If you are in USA you are not allowing to cut nails vertically. It causes more issues and makes worse ingrown two nails. I am licensed in the US that's how I know

Sorry to be annoying with my comments but that’s another thing I found a lot of the other nail techs only do nails on the hands very rarely do you see them do a pedicure so this is really exciting for me I love watching this stuff. Not too long ago I went to get a medical pedicure for my ingrowns. It hurt like HELL, and the lady injured me BADLY; i had puss on both my toenails and literally couldn't walk for like three weeks. I've been traumatized ever since 🥺

Oh no :( try and look for salons in your area that give special treatments for ingrowns (I've noticed that a lot of Russian technicians are amazing at not only fixing your nails but also providing amazing treatments for any special care). Hope you find the courage to try a pedi again!

A podiatrist is probably a better route to go for severe ingrown nails. Unless the lady you went to was a podiatrist?

Someone did this to me - I had no problems when I saw him then he did this to me and I got an ingrown toenail for a year. I don't think that trimming the toenail on the side walls is a good idea because there is part of the toenail down below trimming which will grow into the skin. It definitely screwed me up, won't let anyone even so much as file my nails now.

same here. had to get it surgically removed twice. the pain from the surgery was so bad i fainted. i never let ANYONE touch my feet, i do my own pedicures.

I had that for years. I remember once waking up at like 3am in tears from the pain after I had been walking in sneakers earlier (those ALWAYS made it 10x worse). My husband used some scissors from a nail kit to cut the nails out for me and it was instantly cured. He always cuts them in a straight line so they aren't sharp on the edges. Turns out clippers what was causing my pain all those years because it was cutting them in a way that was leaving the edges sharp.

I would have trimmed her other nails a little shorter, to look more in line with the big toe. Other than that, beautiful work!! I'd love you to do my pedi! And yes, red nails never fail.

I have the same problem like this girl. In Poland it’s called „teddy bear toe”. She should go to podologist and he/she decides what to do next, sometimes podiatry brace is not enough. The most popular solution is plastic surgery of toe. Excess skin around the nail must be removed. A few stitches and after 2 weeks (even faster) you can do anything you want. Teddy bear toe won’t come back. Maybe these nails look pretty after pedicure but it’s not healthy and good. It just hides the problem but doesn’t solve it. That’s only my advice because I’ve been through it. I really like your channel and wish u all the best in New Year❤️😄

Lift the sides of the toenails and stuck cotton under , change it often , it will change the way the nail grow in to the skin !!! I m doing this few years now , and I have no problems . !!!! U just have to keep stuffing cotton under to prevent nail wall -skin touch

It shouldn't. But depending on how bad it is it might require a foot doctor and the toe is numb

Never ever cut the side of your toenail like this. You are leaving behind a piece of nail that is going to have to re-cut the nail groove. If you do this you are essentially causing an ingrown toenail.

I went to podology for a medical pedicure, nails on my big toes were kinda starting to curl downwards and I didn't want it to get to ingrowing nails, I sometimes had a bit of pain when I cut the edges wrong. They are also applying the invisible toenail straighteners. She actually told me it's not for a straightener yet and drilled the sides in, so the nails were not square and said that will help from ingrowing. That was around 5-6 weeks ago. I must say I didn't feel any discomfort or pain, and it actually looks like the nail really straightened a bit. Not much though... Due to the Covid restrictions that is the only pedicure you can get and unfortunately I cannot really reach my toenails enough to do it myself properly nor do i have anyone to do it for me...I'm just about booking another appointment there, hope she won't mess up my nails...

@@hopelltt no, but lifting the nail might. If stuffing a lil cotton under the white of the nail where it's ingrown doesn't help (daily, for around 2 weeks) then you might need to surgically remove the side that's ingrown. I had 1cm of my nail removed (the entire 1cm was under the skin i might add, it was painful as heck) and it healed within 6 weeks. Had the root burned too so it won't regrow. Sometimes surgery is the only answer, depening on how much is actually growing in.

Did the surgery hurt or was it just your toenail that was giving you hell? One last question (lol) Since you had the surgery, that means your toenail won’t in-grow ever again?

It's when the toenail grows into the skin and/or sidewalls on the free edge sides of the nail. It can be red and very painful.

I love your videos but you should never ever cut the side of your toenail like this. You are leaving behind a piece of nail that is going to have to re-cut the nail groove. If you do this you are essentially causing an ingrown toenail.

Trimming down the sidewall is what caused my nails to become in grown. And the tiny, jagged edge at the deep cut point on the sidewall pokes into the skin as it grows out.

If I wear a certain SPECIFIC color of reddish pink on my toes, my brother always looks at them like I've just dipped them in pond scum. Apparently one of the first cadavers he ever saw had her toenails painted that color and he's never gotten over it.
