There's alot to the music - Reggae has such variety. The drum and bass is the strong root. This tune have the drums playing what some call straight 4 pattern, then there's the "One Drop" and the "Steppers" beat. These three are the fundamental reggae patterns played at various tempos. Also there's the Ska (1960s) and the immediate pre-cursor to reggae known as "Rock Steady" (late 60s, early 70s) which many simply call reggae because it's very similar. The content of Reggae in the early years was either "Roots Rastafari " or "Lovers Rock". You also have a sub-genre of Reggae known as Dub, which has a whole popular "sound system" movement behind it. This tune had a Dub section towards the end. There are many great artists to discover. Check out Everton Blender "Lift Up Your Head" for an uptempo Roots Reggae track . If you want to start with some Rock Steady look up Desmond Dekker with a song called "Young Generation" or "Caution" by Bob Marley. Thanks for the reaction!
Thisd song is amazing, has that smooth 80's bassline and amazing vocals. You should check out Michael Rose - Born Free if you like oldschool roots reggae. You could also check out Millie Small - My Boy Lollipop as its one of the first reggae (named ska at that time) recordings that became a hit from 1964
"World a Reggae music on yah, keep mi rockin wid mi daughta." = The world of Reggae music around here: ...keeps me dancing with my woman ...I'll never leave here ...lord I'm thirsty, gimme water
Nice song from Ini Kamoze (first time listening). "Here Comes The Hotstepper" from him was popular in the mid 90's, and is a great vibe. If you can, you could react to it.
