I'm an aircraft mechanic with a short stint as a flight engineer on Herks...the intial briefing in Ops is far from useless..not boring stuff at all for those who love airplanes and love flying!! Lends itself to GREAT SA before and during the flight. Very professional briefing. Great job fellas!
I am soon-to-be pilot and we are trained in excactly this. This is possibly one of the most important briefings when flying with strangers. This briefing and introduction on the start makes sure that we have good communication in flight. When we are using a simulator or flying small planes we always do this to make sure we get everything right and to get better cooperation with each other. Also we use a random Tower-commander for the training to get it as realistic as possible..
Ahhhm, errr, Rob, ahhhh, I'm a bit dumb sorry, if I see a collission threat as we taxi out would you like me to stop the aircraft? Or should we all close our eyes and just hope for the best?
Dude, even though I laughed of your comment and thought it was funny, you must realize that pilots have a huge amount of things to do while taxing / flying. Sometimes pilots can forget things. I think the man in the middle is a responsible proffesional pilot who knows what he is talking about.
If we had THAT much time to discuss all operational procedures, I'd need to get to the airport a day before departure... SOP's and normal safety items are normally not discussed in the briefing. The operational briefing is to review things that are non-normal, e.g. NOTAMS, weather etc...
nonessential? what world do you live in? I consider this a very comprehesive briefing of Three Pilots in a 747 who perhaps have never flown together before, and the Captain is covering ( very well i might add) all important aspects of an extrememly serious nature- That being: Cockpit Resource managment and Teamwork. I found this quite illuminating, and I appreciate that these gentlemen take this business very serious, and handle it in professional, well thought out manner. nice job guys!
Sorry but during my last 20 years in the commercial aviation I never heard a briefing like this...is it maybe because I dont have a lot of experience on the 747 ?
I commented on another one of these vids, but the initial briefing is nowhere near this detailed, at least, at most airlines. And yes, I would know. I've flown for 3 major airlines on 737, A330 and 777 aircraft.
As the saying goes, United hired gentlemen and tried to turn them into pilots. Northwest hired pilots and tried to turn them into gentlemen. Neither has succeeded :)
well........yes, it's somewhat obvious that this is some sort of "Scripted" Instructional Tool, for Pilots, but......are you saying , from some sort of experience, that this doesn't "go down" like this? one thing, they sure are covering every single detail. I suppose after being out on the Line or something, the "Real" guys get into the routine, and learn to Streamline this process, and perhaps don't need to "go line-by-line' like this. thoughts?
chevaughn659 Ok I am sorry that I misunderstand you. But I am not more happy because someone has another color I live in Europe, maybe it is different than in the US
yes, I am. In the real world, tediously anal briefings like this can actually be a threat. I want the other guy to pay attention and take note of what I am saying, not fall asleep. I want to discuss relevant threats to the operation. I'm not going to brief endless SOPs or regurgitate manuals. I'm not going to tell the guy not to taxi into an obstacle. Thats just stupid, and rather patronising too.
This guy is an accomplished captain of a 747, I doubt he cares about the racial comments here. For those making the comments, it's clear looking into the mirror must hurt. Thankfully you can make your comments on YT and feel a whole lot better about yourself! Take care.
@chevaughn659 This is really a silly message, I am black but you disgrace us and this captain by such a comment this man is good and that is why he is a captain and not because he is black
Why are guys being silly and fussing over someone's racial background when in fact this dude probably isn't even African American? Every person with pigmentation in their skin isn't always black like he could be Puerto Rican, Indian, Australian, and so forth. Why does that even matter when the issue here is about piloting? Getting all worked up over a comment because of how one feels that had no intention to offend is pretty silly. Give it rest!
@pilotboyohio Why are you so happy, only because he is black? This man is captain because he has good flight skills and not because he is black. You disgrace this man by make it an race issue
