"and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls."

My first Benchmade was an Osbourne designed M390 581. Wonderful balance and inoffensive assist with such a nice blade for EDC. Got it for 150 bucks new from knifecenter right out of high school (nowadays they would want 350). Carried it every day, it even saved me from a mugging. Lost it 2 years later, bought another. I was eating off brand mac 'n cheese and saving change for gas at the time, the 581 was my baby lol. Took it apart to clean it after a hiking trip and couldn't get the assist spring back in correctly. A few weeks ago I tried again and thankfully got it back together. I fell back in love with the design and then learned Mr. Osbourne had passed. I think a 928 is in order, as his new customs aren't available on earth. I hope Benchmade is looking out for his, he helped lay the foundation of what they are now. Thanks for the videos, along with metal complex and gp your reviews are pleasant listening and seem honest, they saved me from buying a few knives I shouldn't have and got my attention on a few real gems that I missed. Keep up the faith brother.

Rob, I'm a recent subscriber, but a a watcher of your videos for a year. You're a great American and person. I've learned much and appreciate your insight. I can't say I agree with everything, but who does. I'm glad your out on your own making a living off your passion. I've amassed a nice collection of 50 knives over the past year and I don't make purchases without looking at what you have to say. Thanks for everything you do to educate the knife community. I'm just starting to actually carry some of my knives because of the sticker shock on what I have (I never dreamed of spending hundreds of dollars on knives). Many will never be carried because they are collectibles. I look forward to your future videos and I'm sure I will send you knives for servicing in the future. Take care, Wes

Love this knife...made by my all time favorite designer...RIP Warren. When i get mine I will change the pocket clip (hate the BM PenisClip🙄) to a deep carry loop-over clip. Thanks Rob for the excellent review of another great BM knife! I love the perfect sharpening choil, well executed in material, design, and fit and finish.

That sharpening notch placement makes the blade super wonky to me. I like the overall look of the knife but that finger choil then dead area then sharpening notch kills the knife for me.

+TheAidansdaddy17 with a ugly sharpening notch. They needed to get rid of the finger choil or bring the grind to the choil. There's like a quarter inch between the the notch and the choil. Rest of the knife I like.
@mnjcosby
@mnjcosby 7 лет назад
semperfiknives that 1/4 inch is where the blade rests against the handle spine in the closed position since there's no stop pin, identical to a strider, actually the whole knife is just a reshaped strider with a flipper, watch the whole video he explained these things.

I was one who said no thank you, I even passed in even holding one for about a year, was at my local shop eyeballing and new blade and all the stock in was repeat, so I picked up the proxy and handled it....hmm. bought it, now is a favorite and is about perfect to me. You really need to handle one, if you still thinking it is wonky, fair enough, just an opinion.

Two of my favorite knife reviewers - ApostleP and epicsnugglebunny disagree fairly clearly on this knife. I think its a particulalry ugly knife, which isnt the end of the world - Spydercos are ugly after all - but the ergos and practicality are high. I would suggest all of you go check espicsnugglebunnys video as well, interesting to hear two worthwhile analyses of the knife!

As long as.i can adjust the knife to get it working good all around I'm okay with that. About to order one myself here next day or two. Thanks for the awesome ,as usual, review. I know it's an older vid but thank god these are out there for are use instead of buying knives blindly and getting a 300plus dollar folder that flips like crap and has other mechanical issues that makes you really regret your purchase. Granted there are some knives and makers that you don't have to watch a review before you buy a model but I gotta say these videos have saved me disappointments more than once, but on same note made me a happy owner and felt confident about the purchase. Thanks for the vid,keep making them and I'll don't. 2 watch. Have a great weekend and ttyl.

Man, really?! So, BM makes a gorgeous designed frame lock flipper, nails the materials, nails the size, the design screams BM while appealing to current market trends, and then they completely ruin the entire knife beyond repair with that obscenely large sharpening choil. It's not only way too big but also placed a full inch into usable blade edge for no apparent reason. What's worse, there didn't even need to be a sharpening choil in addition to the 50/50 finger choil. The finger choil could have easily served as the sharpening choil, as well. Why? Why the hell would the do that? Who thought that looked okay? Now we have a large knife with a deformed-looking blade, and it sports the usable edge of a small knife.
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 7 лет назад
Joe Perry I'm not sure this will make it any better looking, but there is actually a functional reason for all that going on at the base of the blade. The small flat area between finger choil and sharpening choil is the closed blade stop, much like a Strider.
@J85909266
@J85909266 7 лет назад
Ah, so that at least explained why it happened. Thanks for taking the time to educate me. Still, that is too much effective edge to sacrifice for the way they chose to engineer the action. It would have been better to find a solution that doesn't cost so much blade real-estate. I mean, it's a knife, first and foremost.
@entertainmentguys1
@entertainmentguys1 5 лет назад
@@J85909266 Yup, after you handle it awhile, you realize why the finger choil has some space between the sharpening choil. If not, when choking up on it you would get cut. The blade could be like 3-4 percent bigger and still fit.

Long time listener, first time caller. Great review Rob and thanks for the in-depth review. Like you, I'm a bit of a 940 nut...recently picked up a 940-2 to add to the 940 rotation. As far as titanium flippers are concerned, what's your opinion on the build quality b/t the Domino and Proxy? Slightly difference price point, I know, but curious nonetheless. Thanks!
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 8 лет назад
That's an interesting question, because the knives are so different. But I'd have to give the nod to the Proxy, mostly based on its solid construction and higher quality, more durable hardware.

Two completely different knives. The 940 is a strong, but very light, EDC. The 928 is more of a hard user. But given my bias toward smaller, lighter knives, I'd say the 940.

Benchmade needs to remake the 635 and their older framelock models. They're still great designs, plagued by stupid clip positions and overpricing on the secondary market.
@kerryrwac
@kerryrwac 8 лет назад
The position of the sharpening choil while functional is aesthetically awkward . It the radius of the forward choil extended to the sharpened edge (as in the patented Apostle P, Jason Brous forward choil mod) it would look a lot better . I'm glad this ones left hand carry for you and perhaps you could dye the G10 a nicer colour .

Just use a soldering iron or heat a small metal rod and hold on screw for a short time, and the loc-tite will release like butter. I raced nitro R/C cars for many years, and you put loc-tite on EVERY screw that threads into metal or you won't finish a race. And some are very fine or small screws. And if you patiently apply with low heat, it won't hurt nothing, a lot of the screws in R/C cars hold plastic to a metal surface so it is more delicate then g10,carbon fiber, or most common materials used for knives.

@sputumtube
@sputumtube 8 лет назад
It's like an old British car. Works sweetly when correctly maintained and 'tuned' but requires constant attention to keep it that way. I would imagine that the vast majority of us do not have your workshop/sharpening skills meaning the knife would go 'out of tune' quickly. Also, at $295.00 RRP ($250.75 @ Knife Centre) it's too expensive for what it is/does. Buy a comparable ZT which would be good to go out of the box and, more importantly, stay that way without having to 'adjust' it all the time.
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 8 лет назад
I respect your opinion, Paul, but I disagree on this one. I've owned several ZT ball bearing flippers and sold them all. All of them had more issues out of box than the Proxy. None of them, nor precious few of the ones I've worked on have been great designs executed well. Also, with the possible exception of the 0392, none has the build quality of the Proxy, and that knife is $400 new, $5-700 on the secondary markets.

I don't get it. I would bet my money that you would be the first to bash on this ridiculous plunge line/sharpening notch setup
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 7 лет назад
albi131 Why is it ridiculous? It actually works quite well, very similar to the Strider setup. It does look a bit odd, especially in a market full of "form over function" products. But I've always been more of a function guy, and this knife is all function.
@albi131
@albi131 7 лет назад
Because the edge starts about half a mile from the choil and it looks fugly. It looks like someone made gigantic chip out of the blade. Strider makes their sharpening notch around the plunge line. Here there is a plunge line, then the sharpening notch and the edge comes after all of that.
@TheApostleP
@TheApostleP 7 лет назад
albi131 I'm not sure what Strider you've been looking at, but I assure you, the two designs are almost identical dimensionally and relationally. You have full thickness ricasso in the area of a finger groove, followed by a gradual plunge grind, and at the end of the plunge, giving plenty of room for the edge of a stone to overhang the base of the edge, you have a generous sharpening notch. The only difference in the designs functionally is that the closed blade stops are different. On the Strider, the finger groove is the stop. On the Benchmade, it's the flat between the finger groove and sharpening notch. That does make the Strider appear more elegant, but it's a good use of the space available in he Proxy. But to address your initial point, the notch in be Proxy's blade is exactly where it needs to be in relation to the plunge grind, not "a half mile away."
