Still not worried 🎉🎉🎉 .. champions know how to show up when matters once they back to full fitness .. they are national treasures .. n have ruled the Olympic sprints over the past 20 years
Looks like it's going to be tough for Jamaica this time. Injuries are a reality of the sport. I still believe Shelly will make it to Paris. However, to medal it's going to take a Herculean effort.
I think Shelly and Shericka will make the 100 & 200 teams. There is some concern with her knee taped but Shelly seemed extremely comfortable running that time. She didn’t need to run faster because of the Group that she was running against.
@exa i wouldn't be that concern about the tape on her knees giving the way she explode out of the blocks in that race there's no problem with the knees.. For all of 2023 that bullet start wasn't there now its back and the top end speed is coming back slowly..
As a J'can this is my honest gut feeling. ETH is out and SAFP is 50/50 for the trials and even if she qualifies to make the team it will not be for the individual 100m or 200m. she may make it for the relays. SJ will make it to the trials and is likely to win the 100m and 200m, but a podium finish at the Olympics is dicey from what I can see at this moment in time. SJ, and her MVP team might prove me wrong, (I hope so) I wish them all the best .
Yeah. American here, and I have Jacko definitely making the team and doubling at the Jamaican trials. I actually think Elaine looks good…first race she only did her drive and second race she only did her drive and acceleration then jogged. Elaine is at least 10.8 ready today. Shelly at 11.15 and clearly pressing it two week before trials? Meh…it isn’t looking good for dat’ gal Shelly Anne! This is one of those moments like when Ottey didn’t make the team, Veronica didn’t make the team, etc. This time was inevitable and it is a reality.
@@stevie586 Jacko fs making it along with Shelly but Elaine still waiting to be cleared by Dr.Muller or whatever. Or didn’t you see she couldn’t even walk off the track by herself had to be carried
@@forevergoated999 Jacko is fine. Shelly does not look fine to me. Yes, I Pay very, VERY close attention, unlike many people. Elaine is not “injured” - she felt a pain and needed to have it observed as a precaution. She didn’t get carried off the track…she walked, had some assistance at one point, and got carried to the icing station…this is a precaution. I need you all to understand, when we sprinters feel anything, we just go into protection mode and take extra precautions because it is not worth possibly getting injured and making things worse. It doesn’t mean there is a problem. For instance, Noah Lyles didn’t run the indoor final last year because he “felt something”, and he did great after then and won the double outdoor. Everyone is looking at times, but I’m looking very closely at what I see in Elaine, and she’s not slow right now…she looks fast right now. Just watch, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
None of them look like they will medal 🏅 this year. Maybe Shericka will be able to turn it around to make the 100m podium, but I still say Sha'carri and Julien are looking like a solid Gold and Silver at this point
@divinee.155 I have paid attention, they don't come out of nowhere, Brianna Lyston is not running, Sloley is barely breaking 11 flat they're not ready to Challenge Sha'carri or Julien, it's more likely someone comes from the USA like Sears or Long to surprise than from Jamaica this year.
@ron Jamaica never miss the podium in 45 years at the Olympic. If i were i would hold that thought until after the trials, and even then they have another 6 weeks to go we are the fastest sets of females on the planet today, its too much time to start writing them off..😅😅
Shelly usually opens up in the 11s. If you followed her track career you would see that for many years shes opened in the 11s and made it to the podium at the bigger races. The tape on the knee would be a concern but not the time.
Please remember she ran 10.77 last year on that same injured knee, she had 10 months off , her form looked really good in that 11.15 race I think she just did enough to blow off the race rust and will be sharper for the Olympics
The field is wide open and as a result SFP will make the team. I was hoping for a 10.8, however after seeing how the meet was scheduled, I wasn't confident of fast times. The race didn't run until around 10:30pm JA time, 11:30pm EST. I think the meet was too drawn out. This isn't an excuse for Shelly-Ann but doesn't give me confidence that 11.15s is a good indicator of where she is.1 think she could be in 10.9s shape now and can drop in time for trials. She will definitely make the team for the 100m. I have not doubt about that. There aren't three runner beating SFP at trials. Shericka is the only runner who may be in better shape than SFP at this stage. As for Elaine, It's difficult to think she'll be better for trials and that's unfortunate. At this time the top 3 looks to be Shericka, Shelly-Ann, Slowly. We haven't seen Brianna Williams so I can't comment on her but she could be the other athlete that could potentially be in the mix. You are right, there aren't many other female sprinters in the pipeline right now as in years past.
I dont think people ready for that convo but youre absolutely right. We cant say for ceratin that Shelly or Elaine will 100% make the team. Just because things have happen to them before in the beginning of their season and still manage to overcome that, things changed, last year was year nothing is for certain so we cant say Shelly is 100% gonna make the team or Elaine at that matter 🤷🏽🤷🏽
Just want to put something out there in regards to Women's 100m & 200m at the Olympics: Jamaica has medalled in the Olympics for every Women's 100m & 200m for over 30 years. The last time a Jamaican didn't medal in the 100m was 1988, where Florence Griffith Joyner won in Seoul 1988 with Evelyn Ashford with Silver and Germany's Heike Drechsler having the bronze medal. The last time a Jamaican didn't medal in the 200m was Montreal 1976, Merlene Ottey became the first to medal in 1980 at the Moscow Olympics. It is possible that a Jamaican woman might not be on the Olympic podium this year in either event based on the developments we've seen with Elaine, Shelly and Shericka and the rising talents in Jamaica haven't had a breakthrough yet to be potential medalists at a World Senior Stage. But also the improvements we've seen with the likes of Dina, Daryll, Gabby and Ta Lou throughout the season as well as the big names of Sha'carri and Julen putting on some quick times. Things can change from the Olympic Trials and leading up to the Olympic Games. We will have to wait and see.
Yup, I think the 200m streak is the longest for any country right now in T&F, just ahead of Kenyan men in the 3k steeple who last time they didnt medal was 1980. But agree, its possible the streak is broken in bot the 100/200 considering the landscape of the field, but well have to wait and see!
Shericka will excell in both 100 & 200, surprising many. Elaine - praying for a miracle for her Shelly will make the JA team but not sure about the podium in Paris.
Yes, the big concern with Shelly-Ann is the tape on her knee, as she is now entering an abridged speed training period, and speed training with asymmetry problems and movement compensations might be either inefficient or dangerous. Hope I'm wrong!
If I'm Lanae-Tava Thomas who was likely heading into JAM Trials targeting a 200m spot, might as well jump into both 100/200m events given the current landscape with the Big 3 & Lyston!
@@TheFinalLeg Good for her, makes sense! You covering the results from NGR's Olympic Trials which starts today & ends on Tuesday? NCAA Athletes have basically had a 1wk turnaround from NCAAs!
@@AllInTheGame01 Yea I'll be following for sure! Lots of top names all be there of course. I know Udodi may only run the 100m here but he is only focusing on the 200m for Paris from my understanding. Favour Ofili may only run the 100m I think (is already set in the 200 and will hopefully double in Paris) but everything should be HOT. I dont expect anything fast because like you said many names had 1 week to prep after NCAAs, but should be fun regardless!
She stayed in the safe zone, sticking to form She did not came to lay down the law, just going through the paces Based on what happened to Elaine, she going to keep it safe
@@TheFinalLegThe Jamaicans woman might make the 10.6 look easy but its not so easy to run only few ran 2 times but ShellyAnn is only one in history take up residence in that club imagine that...
first run for her she will be ok water pick up speed as it rolls down the hill look forward to see her run her last Olympics regardless of the out come muck love from the Bahamas Shelly and the world we love you
I wish for our 3 mainn gig make it to the Olympic..elaine want the 3 peat..shelly want to go out on a high..jacko want to add the 100 to her CV...but if injuries take precedent i will be rooting and blessing them still..they spoil us for years and we should appreciate them
I'm a huge fan of the Jamaican Big 3, but I can also face reality. Injuries are major setbacks when it comes to performing at the highest level of any sport. Having said that, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the possible outcomes for them this year. Great video.
I completely agree with everything you stated except for Elaine. Elaine looked great in the last race until she began to jog…she’s definitely in 10.8 or 10.9 shape right now. She said the pain she felt was merely something she “felt”…she didn’t confirm it is an injury and I don’t think it will be an actual injury when we get into it. Elaine is determined…she’s not gonna give up on her Olympic Year and she will make that Jamaican team if she ran 11.3 in cold weather and 11.48 jogging across the line with a massive headwind! The 11.3 she didn’t even run the acceleration and still got that time not far behind others, and she usually opens in a fair weather 11.2 or so season opener. This is what Elaine does early season and she always figures it out! I think we can get a 10.8 or 10.9 out of Elaine in the trails, for sure. It’s Shelly I’m worried about…Shelly does not look good to me, at all.
I am so sad about what's happening with ETH; my prayers go up for her healing. When ETH is in good health and "firing", she is a joy to behold. She has that "afterburner speed" capacity...SR (USA) has it as well. I continue to appreciate this channel....keep on being honest and fair. Nuff Blessings!
Why do some act as if they are entitled to KNOW the entire details to everything? The truth eventually reveals itself in due time. Many want to make a social event out of every circumstance, there's no mandate stating that all information has to be revealed.
@@sutikareoluwagbenga1272 This is so laughable. A mystery to me who's trying to KNOW everything or whatever foolinish you talking bout. Please, take a walk down the block.
@kpat3052 go where, Flojo was fastest ever, no doubt anything else is speculation, we can also speculate on how Shelly has been able to be competitive for so long, or how Elaine and Shericka improved by so much so fast but that would just be speculation nothing with actual facts 😀
11.1 is "ok", in her 10.6's season she opened 10.67 seconds... 10.67 seconds.... Which means she prepared herself to do that and was able to open like that. "Normal" folks do open slower like 11.0 and the time drops over the weeks, but i don't think Shelly "wanted" to open 11.1 seconds.... She can make the Jamaican team just because the only competition she has is Jackson. All this talk about injured athletes in Jamaica, is no excuse for their performance, if you're injured get healed. The need to wake up to the fact that they are not at the level they were 3 years ago. That big three you keep talking about is over there is no BIG THREE.
I must agree with your assessment. Unfortunately and sadly two of the big three don't look like it would happen for them this year. Shelly isn't looking the best and her age is definitely a big problem. Elaine looks even more out of it and she defintely isn't a "Spring Chicken' either. So I think both are going to have really great challenges just making the Jamaican women's team and getting the title looks so unlikely that I wouldn't even waste my time hoping for it.
To be honest, it wasn't what I was expecting from Shelly-ann. Secondly that strapping on that knee tells me that she has been injured at some point and is not in the same shape she was in last year even when she started her season quite late. Seeing all three, I'm not sure if any of them will make the podium If any it will be Sherika. ( I can't believe I am writing this because I am a die-hJamaicaaica fan through and through) It might just be another woman who is not Jamaican for the first time in a very long time. Listen! I might be wrong but bet I am not.
I agree with everything U say and your analyses has always tried to be objectively fair. I too am skeptical that any of MY Jamaican girls are in world challenging shape. I caution 2 things however and yes Im leaving out the defending double champion as I doubt her being able to recover in time. First caution is that Stephen Francis OWNS the Olympic 100m. To think that he will easily surrender would be foolish. 2nd caution is I trust Shelly not to try do the impossible. In my book she is the most and best strategic athlete I have ever seen. Yes she is late and definitely not 100 but.......BUT... She is also most experienced to know whether she has 1 more shot in her. Im confident she is capable of pacing her performances toward just 1 race. If she makes it to the final, expect the maximum not the ordinary. Does she make it there?
Shelly Ann will make the team❗️ Her experience, talent ability to focus in the big moments will carry her through. My Olympic predictions are up in the air. I’ll check back in after all the trials.
I really wanted all three at the Paris Olympics. As a biggest Elaine’s fan I was devastated by her injury in NYC. I still have hope she makes the team, but idk man
Easy run for her, nothing major that second run will be the true indicator, she’s also like 37-38 lol Elaine has not made every team lol she didn’t make budpest lol she was hurt 2019 i think?
The qualifiers for the 100M women include SFP - will run second with 10.86; if she have at least three good races before the national trials - 11 days ahead, then this will helps. She knows the things she must do to get on the podium - claim a medal of any colour! Yes she should have started earlier but we do not know the reason for this. Two races in Europe to customize body before Paris 2024 would be an excellent move but for the podium; one must consider PB, 10.47, 10.68 and 10.71 Who will be hungry for the wares up for grab? This event is hot and we only can speculate - NEW kid will upset the top 5 athletes - USA and Caribbean contingent? Can Europe and Africa play the right card? Ta-Lu-Smith wants this GOLD. This may be her LAST Olympic too!!! I will share, all the talent who will retire by 2025 end of season will pull out their BEST for TOP spots!!! We're watching for the upset with PBs on podium!
Olympics is in August why should an athlete start peaking now and may get injured.Elaine Thompson should never run she should look about her health and run at trials. Jamaican fans should be educated about athletes health they are not machine.
"Going off" sounds negative. He gave his honest observations and I can respect that. He stated their current situations and he seems to be VERY fair in his assessment ...period....
None of the "Big 3" will medalnor make the finals in Paris. Hinestly Shelly has done so much for track and field and for Jamaica. Shelly is 38 and she has been doing this for almost 20 years. The younger athletes needs to step up and take the burden off Shelly.😊
In the 100m none will medal, in the 200m I’m thinking Jackson will finishes in the top three although she looking a bit tight . Shack looking very explosive this season
Nope those back to back world championships are starting to show on the athletes. Thats why did took it off last year. Also they are all still heavy waiting to peak at trials
I support you for reporting the facts 11.15 knee wraped slow start is not we expected for this long wait and if shelley and elaine is put on the jam team they wont win in paris that look like the truth than believing elaine plan to lose against shacarri for a big come back thanks for the facts
Ok that how u all rolling they will not medal that is what u all are saying that is how u all feel about those ladies u all is in for alot of supplies well we all will see u all ready to write them off my God u all people is not nice
I think Elaine is out. Shelley can make it but how will her knee hold up? Sherika is a lock. There’s two spots open and Shelley is going to fight for 3rd. As for Olympics. I have Sherika vs ShaCarri going for Gold.
Imho Shelley & Sherika make the team. 11.15 doesn't concern me because at her age and with injury Shelley has to measure her efforts ie run fast only when absolutely required. Elaine may wrap up the season and again in my opinion should focus on final resolution for the Achilles issue. She has nothing else to prove except to make more history so.....
Random, where is Kevona Davis? She showed alot of promise running with JuJu at University of Texas, and now she has disappeared. Seems like she would be an up and coming sprinter who could make the team.
Its possible she is dealing with some injuries this year. She's run at Texas, even on the 4x1 at NCAAs, but she of course was not in the form that got her to the World Championships last year.
She's one of the burnt out! With all the few improvements for college races, I never got excited about that girl. Never! I have no clue why that is so!
Tbh, all though 11.15 isn’t all that glamorous. I still have hope for Shelly to make the team and from then she has a month of training to sharpen up and get the speed in. Shelly looked like she was working on some things, an opener will most likely not be crazy fast, esp when at 11pm😭. Sprinters can randomly drop a chunk of time when targeting specific comps, and I think Shelly’s in that camp of sprinters due to who she’s with
I agree here, she still COULD make the team which would give her more time for Paris, but its only less than 2 weeks away for trials so well have to see. Its true she was likely working on things, but thats because she hasn't raced since August last year, so she has to work on things in her first race. But your right she will likely be faster come trials, but question is if it will be enough to qualify thats TBD. Would love to see it happen though!
@@TheFinalLeg I have faith, tbh no Jamaican has really impressed (I’m taking shericka as a given to make the team not worried at all) so I don’t think she has all too much to overcome to place in that top3. 2 weeks all tho short time period, you can drop a decent amount of time from personal experience and just seeing other people. The oly will be a different story for Shelly need to wait for the event to commence (heats) to call it for me personally
I personally would have like better. It's hard to assess if she was put in much effort or if she was holding back. I think she can definitely improve but I would have liked if she looked more impressive. She's almost 38 so you already have to know she's going against "Father time".
@@sutikareoluwagbenga1272 So true bro!!!! She has been really great for 16 years. She's almost 38 and it's getting harder and harder to fight against the effects of aging.
If SAFP, ETH, or Sherica Jackson wants to beat Sha'Carri Richardson in the finals, there going to have to run a sub 10.7 because Richardson has too much momentum now and it's her time
If you notice everyone has been running slower this year except the ones who didn’t run as much in the last 2 years it has to do with the delay and timing of the Olympics running right into the worlds legs get tired that’s why everyone is starting late
You could be right. I was juts going based on what I saw watching by the track, she was grabbing the back of her leg (Achillies area) but honestly don't know. But regardless of the injury not looking good.
You are correct about Elaine, but she was grabbing the back of her foot when she finished running. She couldn't even walk. She grabbed at it several times in distress.
@@TheFinalLeg I think the problem for her is being ready by trials. Regardless of what the injury is she probably will not be able to train properly for 1/2 weeks and she already was not in great form. I don't think she will get a pass like bolt either. But JAAA probably should have given her one.
@@aodoemela Agreed, thats why I cant see it happening. even last year she was injured sightly, but did enough to make the relay team cause injury was earlier in the season. We basically have less than 2 weeks to go it might be over. I actually don't think anyone will get a pass, even if Shelly needed one. Neither are in a position like Bolt where he was clearly good enough to podium regardless of who ran. The women's 100m dash is is deep enough where Shelly and Elaine could have to be in 2021 form to medal
Very disappointment from Top Jamaican's Women's Sprinters - None of them made it rather excuses - Whether it's a fear of loosing Gold or Else - Many heart broke on their decision - 100m / 200m / 4x100m Olympics race with Jamaican's really disgusting to watch. Hope to see all of them in American's Soil LA2028.
Dude what planet are you on?.. Shelly making the Jamaica team? Did you study her facial-affect and absence of muscular-tension during her glacial 11.15 ?? SHELLY WAS JOGGING. The only thing I was looking for was the “bullet” start which she had in spades. Frankly I think that’s all she was testing yesterday.
@@ronester1of course it was that bullet start, that's all was worried about because it was missing for all of last season which prevented her pushing out of blocks fast enough, now its back.. I feel much better that when her coach taper her off for the trials you will see that top end speed click in along with that bullet start ..
Elaine is finish, Shelly might be carrying a niggle and Sherika looks like she had too much KFC in the off season. Maybe Franno can get Sloley up to speed in time for the Olympics--Mi nuh know.
I am Jamaican, the truth is the big 3 era is done, they are all past their best, Jamaicans just don’t want to accept the reality, Shelly is an old woman as far as track is concerned, Elaine is not old but,she was damaged by her Husband during the time he was coaching her,and Shericka is passed her best,g three is done. Jamaica will not medal on the woman’s side , oblique Seville might get a bronze on the men’s side, that’s it,,
that reality check will hurt, but it is true. Every team will have to eventually rebuild, that's how it goes. I t will go that way for the Jamacian team too.
Relying on last years performances does not predict a future... Father Time is no joke. These women cannot physically continue to produce on a high level, time for new infusion of people ... just that simple
