Just what I was looking for! As a side note, I haven't used the path effect tool, but it looks useful. The way I've done the text outline is by simply making the duplicate's stroke weight higher. I haven't had any problems keeping the layers lined up that way.
I’m just devouring all your Inkscape “how to” videos…ty so much for taking the time to teach us all how to use Inkscape. Do you have a Q&A site if we run into problems and have nowhere to turn for the answers?
Are you always this upbeat? Just love and enjoy watching your videos, you make learning fun and a breeze. I appreciate all the work and time you put behind your videos! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
@@IronEchoDesign I liked so much of the video. But i'm facing some problems about this. How can i show to you what i want to do and about what version you're using, please?
OMG fantastic, thank you. Please come and be my tutor and sit next to me whilst I do all of this! haha. Only thing is that I'm in London, UK, on my laptop in my kitchen!!
Hey Rick, thank you man for creating such an amazing tutorial videos. Im struggling creating a logo the way you created this image to text. I created a logo using shape builder tool and dont know how to apply this image to text technique on that created design. Please do a video if there is a option
Thank you for a great video! Do you know a way to get this exact result without using clipping? Only reason I ask is because when I clip images to text, it just "hides" the parts I don't want. So when I import the SVG to Cricut Design space, it'll pick up everything including the hidden parts of the clipping 😭 thank you if you can help! Sorry if it doesn't make sense!
Thanks for the Video. I am however having an issue, as the font I want to use, has a built in black outline/boarder. When I use this function, the outline/border changes to the picture, but not the letters themselves. Any advise?
Look in the menu bar above the canvas for the hierarchy markers. Looks like icons of books with arrows. With the photo selected click the down hierarchy icon and you'll see it drop below. Let me know if it works!
Help! I'm trying this out but when I save the text, the image part is not saving as the correlating font of the text. Example, the text is Gill Sans Shadow and shows up as black, but the image background is a basic Arial font. What are the steps as far as Group, Object to path, etc?
I'm wondering if I should try this method for filling in a shape. I'm designing a hexagon wallhanging and will be using different fabrics for the hexagons. The one hitch about this style of quilt is that you really need to plan fabric placement. I'd essentially wish to fill several hexagons separately with different fabric prints. Then duplicate as I wish and play with placement in the quilt layout. Think this method would work? 🤔
Thanks!! Let's fix this. Does the Path Effects side bar menu pop up but it's blank? If so, look for the little plus symbol at the bottom of the menu and click on it. Does that work?
If the little plus symbol is grayed out, it means the object selected needs to be converted to a path before Path Effects come alive. You can try Path>>Object to Path to convert it depending on what it is.
Yes- you can change the stroke by selecting the object and opening up the Fill and Stroke menu. Also if you select multiple objects, you can change them all to the same stroke at once. Hope this helps!
I'm filming a video right now that shows the solution. The Path Effects + is grayed out if nothing is selected or if the selected object doesn't work with Path Effects. Text needs to be converted via Object to Path. Then Path Effects will apply. Hope this helps!
Idk if this is a problem with the newest version but I click on text, find my font, start to type but then it goes to some other random font. It takes several tries and banging my head to finally get the font I want to use. I have no idea how it finally works either because I've banged my head at least 10 times. What am I doing wrong?
Also, in order to showcase your videos, add hashtags so your videos show up first. Your videos are not showing up when I type in something I need to learn.
Oh, the font glitch! Happens to me all the time. Same thing you see- when I change fonts it doesn't register the first time, so I now change twice out of habit, just to make it work. Must be a bug.
That's frustrating for sure. Do you mean when your working with the image? If so, try reducing the file size before importing into Inkscape. Hope this helps.
Thanks! It might be the photo image that is imported is too large. Can you adjust the image to 2MB or less before bringing it in? Or, you could always try exporting at something less than 300dpi. That might sacrifice quality a bit, but you could test it out.
