Quick video tutorial from 2Dgameartguru.com on creating reusable assets for houses, streets, and villages in Inkscape.
The assets used in the video are released as public domain and can be downloaded here
opengameart.org... (SVG file).
This video explains the creation of a sample building made up of a small set of assets. There are more samples at the end of the video. Enjoy!
Most of it can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Macromedia's Freehand with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.

Hi Chris, if you don't know - to not scale the stroke with your objects just turn off that option in your Tool Controls Bar, or unmark the first check box in the Document Preferences->Behavior->Transforms. BTW, thanks for those nice video tutorials! First I landed on your site and the impressive detailed tutorials there - awesome work, dude, keep doing!

Awesome video thanks Chris! It just goes to show how many almost infinite variations of things you can build with just a few simple building blocks created from vectors. And of course, Inkscape is amazing at making it all happen as well. Keep up the great work with your videos!

Thank you for that Chris. I am trying to build a career as a graphic designer because my last boss turned out to be a narcissist in the true sense of the word. You don't always realise that a simple tutorial can help towards lifting people up out of their situations towards a better life.

I am trying to keep the tutorials simple to help people understand the approach and make it their own - taking it to totally different levels afterwards. It's never about copying but learning to see things in a different way and find ways to visualize your ideas. A lot of the time a simple approach is best - adding detail later helps but the foundation needs to work first.

Hello Chris, I was wondering what are the end formats that you export to when it comes to game art - PNGs? If so what are the base resolutions that you target if I may ask? Also, are there any plugins for Inkscape that you would recommend?

Do you know a game called DarkWood (it's a top down horror game) do you think you can make some tutorial on art similar to the one in that game in inkscape?! I'm trying to find a good tool to do similar art work (dark, weird and creepy style...) and I don't know if I should go with inkscape or pixel art. Thanks
