I participated in Inktober as a noob in 2017. While I completed it, I became too focused on trying to be clever and ended up not having fun. Now I only sketch with ink for fun and rarely, if ever, show anyone my work.

I reposted you to my Inktober group, Chloe. My peeps are overburdened with work which strips their time for art/inking. We are sporadic at posting, our drawings are out of order and not consistent everyday, but we’re committed to finish. Plus we’re having a good time.😄 Good observations and insights, and perfect timing. 👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks for reposting! Your comment made me smile, it's pretty chaotic in my studio as well. October is always super busy but as you said, it's a fun challenge to take part in and I'm glad to read that you and your group are committed to a strong finish. 😀🎉

Thank you so much for your first video on inktober. In 2021 I tried the inktober but without organisation I get lost in few days and neither achieve the 31 drawings nor the half way.😞 I tried few of your tips and I surprised myself. On an afternoon I did the 31 thumbnails.I was so happy. With your help it became possible😊 .You have a Raven I try with my cat. And get a full story. With the thumbnails each prompt is easier to draw and less time consuming. Thank you so much.and this second video is great too😍. I'm really really happy and thankfull to you for what I learn from you.

I needed a push to keep motivated to complete Inktober. I simplified my goals the first week to one - draw every day (with ink preferably) for at least 15 minutes. Today's drawing was about having only 10 days left in the month.

Thanks for the great tips. Your work is so lovely. I'll have to refer to this for next year's Inktober. I found myself so intimidated by the high level of skill and apparent time put into the Inktober art being posted that after 3 years in a row, I abandoned my participation. I think having a good system in place and changing my mindset will help get me through the challenge next time!

I can relate to what you're saying about the intimidation aspect of it. I found it helpful to have a mindset-shift strategy to pull my creative thoughts in a productive upswing. I wish you the best for next year!

Really love the depth of information in this video and especially appreciate the time breakdown of your process! I am definitely spending waaaay more time than I need to on the research phase this month (as I'm drawing more from imagination than direct from reference) and I think time blocking would help cut down on that. This video is so timely, while I've got a bit of a buffer this week thanks to the long weekend, I'm starting to feel that mid-challenge pressure! Thank you :)

Your learning & development experience is super helpful for studying, thanks. I struggle sometimes, but thanks to you I realise, that I just need to approach the problem with a different method. I have question - what liners do you use, in terms of a pen tip size?
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration 10 месяцев назад
Glad to hear that it's helpful. For liners, I'm using Tombow's pen set 01, 03, 05, and their brush pen, you can read more about the supplies that I'm using for this Inktober in this article on my blog: longstrideillustration.com/practical-tips-to-finish-strong/

@@longstrideillustration Thanks for the reply! Is tombow better than micron? Tombow pens are kinda hard to get, where I live.
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration 10 месяцев назад
@@cancer4cure483 Personally, I find the Micron tips too stiff and bony/dry. I would try Faber Castell, Copic, or Staedtler if Tombow is not available. Having said that, it depends on the artist, a heavy-hand with pressure might wear the softer nibs out quicker.

@@longstrideillustration Thats very helpful, I can get Faber Castell pens. Thanks for advice!

I really enjoyed your video. What pens did you use on your toad? It didn’t look like the normal Steadler fine liner pens.
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration 10 месяцев назад
That’s the Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen. It’s ideal for filling in solids, and for drawing thicker lines. The firm yet flexible tip allows for varying line weights with light pressure. I prefer the Tombow pens, they have a softer nib and seem to work longer than competing brands. Using Google and Pinterest for image references what about copy rights?
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration 7 месяцев назад
Good question, and it depends. In the context of finding inspiration for an Art challenge, I mention using Pinterest/Google images as reference to spark ideas for your own creations. Copyright Law varies by country but a general rule of thumb is that if original content has been registered under a Trademark, for example a Disney Character, then it’s best not to use that as reference (the grey areas can get complicated). Copyright means the right to use and reproduce original content “as is”. If another artist redraws one of my illustrations with their own hand, it becomes their original art. If someone takes a screen shot of my art and sells it “as is", then there’s a copyright issue. Check out the “Graphic Artists Guild Handbook” if you are considering selling your art and want to know more about usage rights and such.

Thank you for the quick reply ☺️ and I will check it out. And I really enjoy you content by the way. I love how you bring forth the planning and exercises , the mind set needed to actually move foward to actually improving our skills. 😊
