Pineapple fabric sounds super cool! One thing that really interests me about fabric innovation is the trade offs between various types of materials like keeping you dry, comfortable to wear, stretchiness etc. I liked the coverage in your video of fabric advancement through the 20th century in the development of new types of fabrics.
I totally agree that AI is not going to replace creativity in fashion industry, but to enhance it! It is amazing how human creativity collaborates with machine intelligence to help sustainability. I have never thought about creation of fabrics from plastic bottles.
Great vid! I knew that the clothing/fashion industry was a massive contributor to GHG emissions so this is great to see! Also, always great to see yet another application of AI...
The fascinating innovation of the clothing and textiles industry, tracing its evolution from prehistoric times, when humans used animal skins and fibers for protection, to the significant contributions of major civilizations like the Egyptians and Indians. It highlights the transformative impact of the Industrial Revolution with inventions like power looms and sewing machines, which made clothing more affordable and accessible. Oluwagbotemi (Temi)
I like how you mention the future is the collaboration between human creativity and AI. I am actually looking forward to seeing how these eco friendly materials can become individual brand competitive advantages. - Jessica
You mention sustainability in the video - FibreTrace has an interesting technology that involves weaving special fibres into the material that can be used to trace the material all the way through the supply chain and gives confidence to the user that it meets whatever requirements it was sold under (organic, sustainably sourced, responsibly sourced, etc.). I am amazed by how human creativity works together with machine intelligence in the fashion industry, not to replace but to enhance creativity, like creating fabrics from plastic bottles for sustainability. - Anh Pham -
While the use of renewable materials helps, we need to get away from this "fast fashion" idea if we really want to reduce the waste produced by this industry. Brett
I agree with your comments Brett, seems like 'fast fashion' is all rage these days. I also believe the main way to tackle sustainability related issues in the textile industry is by purchase/volume reduction. Neat video. - Mike Sukkau
