Love my g270 V1s have run all my ultras and probably thousands of training miles in them or my X-talon 260s normally around 75% trail 25% road. A note on durability, the lugs do get ground down for me if your runs/races end up having extended sections of road. Not the intended use case I know but it's import to note that in spite of Inov-8s marketing around them having the world's toughest outsole they still don't last forever. Normally get between 200 or 300 miles out of them before the lugs are pretty much useless. Thanks for the review. Think I'll be doing some bargain basement shopping on the V1s until hopefully the V2s come down a bit in price 🤞
Great review gents. I’m on my second pair of v1’s with over 250 miles on them so far and they will last at least another 250 despite taking some abuse. They are a great trail shoe, comfortable, really grippy, great across all terrain including the road, although for super wet and muddy conditions I recommend their X-Talon line. As detailed in this review, they are a firm ride but you have great feel as a result. Big fan.
Inov-8 is my go-to trail shoe, most of them a light nimble flexible amazing grip, especially Talon and Mudclaw models' lug patterns which have enough spacing between each other so mud doesn't clog the outsole. Their studded winter Oroc model is fantastic, but I wish it had a much wider toe box.
Love the V1s. And you can pick them up for about £75 in the UK right now. And they seem to be lasting a long time. I have too many hobbies to be stumping up the extra for V2s right now anyway
I om on my second pair of TrailFly G 300 and have just added these G 270 v2 to my rotation. I really did enjoy my first run - 15k of non technical trail - they felt great out of the box. My only concern is grip in wet hard surfaces where my G 300 does not perform and I have kind of lost trust in them. Not a great feeling running long distances where you get tied and needs the grip even more.
For me the Lone Peak 7 is the best. The fit, especially in the toe box, is great as l have a broad forefoot. Also, as soon as l put on the LP 7s and began running the annoying post-run pain in my left knee went and l could run without suffering next day when walking upstairs. When l transitioned to the inov-8 Trailfly G 270 V2 they were tight in the toe box, felt less forgiving on harder surfaces and l had a return of the post run left knee pain. Conclusions: inov-8 Trailfly G 270 V2 are definately NOT a wide fit shoe, my roes felt squashed, insufficient impact absorption and ........ are they really zero drop? LP7s are less expensive, great wide fit, definately zero drop, better for mixed surface running and no post run knee pain. Won't be going near inov-8 Trailfly G 270 V2 s again, a very expensive lesson learnt. LP 7s👍👍👍 Phil Burke
I found my V1's to be smaller than my usual shoes so only use them for shorter runs otherwise my toes end up getting crushed. It's a good trail shoe though.
I’m size 8s in normal shoes and 8.5s in running shoes. Wore size 8.5 v1s to run 100k. Shoes were pretty comfy but lost at least 3 toenails. Reckon it might be better to go up half a size
On V-1, the overlay at the tie seems to catch/interfere with toe lift. That remained true no matter the size. I put about 60k in them and find now I only reach for them as casual shoes because of that.
Since Tom usually enjoys a nice cushioned road shoe - same as me - I will maybe give these a try but I worry the low drop will be unusual as I think my cushioned shoes have a higher stack. Have you also tried the Hoke Challenger 7 and can compare the G 270 to them? Or maybe speedgoats? Thanks
