18:15 offers the greatest explanation about keeping weak dinky little copters hidden, then proceeds to expose it in front of the sneaky ricky taking a peaky. 360º move.
Since AWBW devs prioritize purity over balance (unless of course buffing drakes air units among other things) I don't think the issue will ever be resolved.
the secret is to play Grimm and then make the greatest speech in the chat to try to make him quit the game and touch grass outside, therefore giving over to you the win for free.
Great game! Entertaining commentary as always, and actually wasn't expecting a draw. Not to be that guy... but that Md tank taking 1HP of damage back: It healed from 8HP to 10HP that turn, but that doesn't mean it healed to 100HP, just somewhere between 91-100. The opposing tank can only deal 2% damage max... so your Md tank was on either 91 or 92HP =] Can understand it's frustrating mind hahah.
Reminds me of that sun tzu quote “if he is quick to anger, prod him. If he is taking his time, rush him.” Something like that. Your emotions may have hurt you this game
I know rockets are usually not great, but maybe they could have worked here? Either that or a sneaky rush for the two properties in the middle could have worked as a way to overload their forces.
At Day 28, you had a healthy infantry in the middle, and 2 enemy cities in the range for the capture by day 30. I know it would be extreme case of Mangs-infantring, but with only 2 days left, why not chance it?
That's the weird thing about SCOP co mirror matchups. They verge so much on who gets scop first that an early lead is almost counterproductive if you get smacked with an SCOP first.
@@Gatitasecsii Well, AWBW does have the power to mod the game. especially something as easy as how much charge you get for taking vs dealing damage. so, its both awbw and the originals flaw. imo thats just how i see it anyway.
Love these commentaries Deejus, thanks! And we all get bad rolls sometimes, you handle those well. Even if the bad roll was actually a ~75% in favor of your opponent ;)
I'd be down with reworking all the global damage co's to be, not global damage, like for drake and olaf and you can try to play further into their weather gimmicks and hawke.... idk but im sure someone somewhere has a good idea
or ruin the game and make it so when you mirror COs, powers building is reversed that the damage you do is added to your bars, and damage you take is halved
Random, but surprised we never got a war room map with all three mass damage COs (Hawke, Drake and Olaf) Could've been the 1v3 answer to Risky Vale being Max and Kanbei murdering you
I think i fall into the category of players who "spams air units when they're losing". My logic behind it is trying to keep a decent unit count for just a bit longer in hopes that helps me swing back. Not sure if it's a viable strat, but that's my reasoning
I was surprised to hear that you hate Olaf mirrors as much as I do! When I get matched on a tier 2 map where Olaf is the only good pick, I usually just log out of the site for 4 days so the game gets pocket-vetoed and never begins. Such a boring matchup. One Olaf is boring enough!
35:10 : the AWBW damage calculation for an Olaf 5 HP Tank vs a Drake 4 HP Antiair on Plains with one commtower each and no powers is 34-38%. So, how did the Antiair actually die?
Becquse that antiair was below 49%hp. AW hides real hp by rounding up the numbers, thats why you see people sacking 3hp infantry into tanks, to lower real hp and secure the kill.
i swear live matches are so fun. In my third one ever a few days ago i had the closest fucking win with a 1hp copter blocking my hq with my opponent being a full power meter tami while i took their hq
Dang usually when I have an income advantage the breaks comes off and I turn the battlefield into a meat grinder. My rational is, I can replace my units more easily than you. I'll kill as many infantry as possible so my opponent can't capture then I tech up, wall up and attack non-stop. As long as we trade evenly I think I'll win. I can only do this with global damage COs. Usually at midge
Deejus, can you explain to me why you didn't force a Typhoon here on turn 14? 20:02 Would it still be worse to get SCOP initiative? You were so close to getting the super just by sacrificing your anti air or god forbid, take an unfavorable tank trade.
Can someone explain to me how the green medium tank attacking on turn 24 before a guaranteed winter fury, in range of a full HP medium tank(repair) is justified? Even the attack on to the blue medium tank on the city seems like a coinflip because it'd be 2 turns from the airport but I can't for the life of me figure out why go for that tank. Even if the tank dies you still trade a medium tank for a tank.
I hate mirror matches so much. Playing Eagle or Olaf mirrors you get punished for winning early battles. It doesn't matter if I have twice as many tanks as my opponent if they get Lightning Strike first and attack both my tanks with their single tank first.
I dont really recommend High Funds for live matches. You need to process a lot more information, too little time and too large map. Then there are CoS who use a ton of time up like Eagle and Sensei. Still, it is fun.
Of course its captain hindsighting, but I think you could've gotten the scop first on turn 24 by hitting the MD tank. It wouldve prevented that insane turn 25 for him. But its live, and global damage COs being all about meter management is annoying as fuck.
Honestly I think they should switch power generation. Get 100% from damage done, 50% from damage taken. Or just don't make distinction between the two. That way there would be no case of the better player losing.
If that were the case, a small advantage would snowball out of control in an instant. You'd just need to outplay your opponent in the early game and then throw a power on top. Games would be over before turn ten. The losing player getting more charge keeps matches fun and balanced, with the possibility of making a comeback. It's just this particular matchup, global damage wars, where it can screw things over. But that's still much better than if the better player would get the most charge, as that would mean total hopelessness for the loser.
If only there was another advance wars game that didn't punish you for being ahead :) The power system in DoR isn't ideal either but at least I don't have to get out the calculator to figure out if I can get my power or not, and there aren't weird situations (especially in Eagle/Olaf mirrors) where you need to intentionally sacrifice units to make sure you get power first. Maybe you could try TinyWars again, they've added some new custom COs since you last checked it out. I didn't like them when I started but they've grown on me, and you can always ban them if you don't want to play with them.
Honestly the weathering-damage powers of AW have aged the most out of all COP/SCOP variants, as amply demonstrated in this matchup and the accompanying Deejus rants - they reliably serve the win to the worse player. Some sort of proximity/radial system would be a vast improvement, just throwing that out there.
19:20 I appreciate that by playing as Drake you wanted to use your power second anyway to clear out the snow and force Olaf to endure rain, but if this *were* an Olaf mirror... could you have sacked units to get your power first here? Or would that have undermined your strong start too much?
