That's a fantastic rig! Man after my own heart with all that organization. Enjoy while you're young though, that bed system will be a challenge getting up in the middle of the night to answer nature's call, lol.
I totally love this build. Do you stay in this in the winter? How do you cook while inside without gas fumes? Water heater? How long do your resources last? (Gas, water, electricity)
@@dereksimmons5877 The camper is. Not the armor. Add front and rear bumpers, skids, sliders and you’re talking about an additional 400 lbs easy. Camper setup with interior is another 500lbs. You’re now at 900 lbs additional. Tacoma payload is about 1100lbs so now you got 200lbs to work with. That’s room for one human being. That doesn’t count any cargo you bring, water, food or the 23 gallons of gas in the oem tank. Weight adds up quickly in areas you least expect it.
@@Gazziza29 in other countries you can slap a lift on a truck and have an engineer sign off on it and the payload will be dramatically increased. Of course that doesn’t make it legal here. In Australia there are basic lift kits that will make an Fj cruiser have a payload of around 2400lbs. Those guys over there know what they are signing off for. It really is too bad we can’t get that sort of service here in the states.
Best buildout for small bed truck & tent shell I have seen. Do you have any additional information on the design available? I would like to model my build after yours.
400 lbs for that camper itself plus everything else in there he probably has 7-800lbs total in the back and you have to take into account dynamic ratings so no surprise that a leaf snapped
Yeah when I run my Tacoma completely loaded up, I'm at about 750lbs of payload. I just ordered some heavier duty leaf packs to prevent snapping leaves :P
cool set up other than if you have to pee in the middle of the night...someone will be folded up so the other person can get out. better bring a pee bottle.
This rig is so far over its weight rating, hope you do not have to stop real quick. God forbid you have an accident because your insurance is NOT going to cover you because you are WAY over the 990lbs cargo carrying capacity of the Taco.
