As someone who used to race my street car on occasion, and who would have been gutted if I'd wrecked; not to mention bankrupt, I can sure sympathize with these guys; each of whom had investments many times larger than I ever did. A wreck is always a possibility the moment you fire your car and can happen to any of us in a split second. As that one guy said, it's part of racing. Still doesn't make it any easier when it happens to you though. Major props to those guys who saved it and a big salute to all who compete. You entertain us all and keep the sport alive.
@@13EN17 That's why it schools have easy access and should be practiced to press it, even better if you do that while blindfolded, muscle memory would help a lot.
Or just slap it in neutral at the very least.. You can't tell me he didn't have his hand of the shifter. A motor is easier to rebuild than an entire car. Put your kill switch in a VERY easy place to access, and go through the motion of touching it before every pass. One never knows when things like this will happen.
@@13EN17 He was blowing the tires off going fuckin nowhere lmfao If you cant reach the ignition doing a burnout you shouldn't be driving a golfcart at the old folks club 🤣
Thanks Tom! Yeah Mikes G-Body usually brings the entertainment 👏 I did a feature video on his car a while back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kwhMsgoivS8.html
Every race car should have a red panic button on the dash that you punch kills everything I did when I was drag racing comes in handy when the throttle sticks
Cause he's tool old to be racing. Probably been drinking that day too I see way too many people drink while racing. Guess his throttle stop really "stopped" the throttle...from returning lmao
I’ll never understand why there isn’t a divide down the middle or any kind of barrier it would be insane to lose your life from someone else losing control
My dad almost crashed his drag car through the garage wall into the kitchen after he was checking some stuff in the driveway. He blipped the throttle and it stuck wide open. Luckily he had the thought to just turn it off b/c there was no stopping that thing otherwise. There were two of the blackest streaks you've ever seen going from the driveway into our garage. He did hit the lawnmower a little bit. I can't stress enough, build in an easily accessed kill switch into the driver's compartment. And always check throttle return springs, linkages, and check for potential hangups in the floor pan. I've seen this happen more than once and even had it happen to me in my truck due to a floor mat shifting its position.
My godfather ran dirttrack and his Killswitch was mounted to the wheel he only had to use it once but he hit the wall so hard it snapped the fuel lines from the motor
When your throttle sticks, first, jam on your brakes. Then, after a short time, you will realize this is doing NOTHING. Then, while in total panic move, you should come to the realization that you have to turn it off. Hopefully, you will have the off switch somewhere in your reach. BTW, the overhead switch may not be a good idea during this situation unless you have practiced violently turning it off. The car at 4:35 is also a perfect example of how jamming on the brakes takes away your ability to steer.
I'm not a drag-racing dude (I'm an ex-rally-driver [only amateur] from the Group-B era), but I understand the importance of getting away from a crash uninjured. But.. you know what? When I rolled my car or put it into a tree or a ditch or fell off a mountain, I always felt worse when I was back at home, straightening and welding things, if I hadn't taken enough of a battering to show that I'd screwed up. Does that sound odd? I felt guilty. I didn't DESERVE to have got away unscathed. Just like the lovingly-prepared cars of the guys hitting the wall in this video, if mine had given its all to keep me and my co-driver safe I felt I owed it a cracked rib or a badly sprained wrist to show that I appreciated its sacrifice and shared its 'pain'. Maybe I'm just weird...🤔
I have been dreaming of having a car at that level for fifty years. With my luck, if I ever pulled it off, this would be my first pass, I have had to have used up all my luck by now.
1:08 why are these geniuses standing like 1 foot beside a tiny barrier where there is a very real possibility you could be straight up decapitated if something goes wrong
I'll bet the goobersmooches in the rescue trucks get really wet down there when they get to hit that train horn amd drive a cupple hunnert feet. Like when they used to try to climb the rope in gym class but couldn't quite even get close.

They’ve just accepted that this is part of life crashing like this smh with all the technology we have you figure they have a track that could minimize damage
Why do they put those concrete walls alongside the track? Some of the tracks in this video didn't have any walls and the vehicles that went off the track weren't damaged for obvious reasons. I can't see any benefit of the walls; they only make things far more dangerous for the racers and far more hazardous for their cars.
Well the real problem is the crowd of people standing at the start line. If they would go sit in the stands then yes that would mean less annoying horns..
