I've got a number of largish jades that haven't been repotted in four or five years, and the soil is very compacted. They're presently in rather shallow 8" W x 4" D terra cotta pots. I pulled one plant out and kind of surprisingly it is not pot-bound. But, I do believe they would benefit from new soil. So I intend to proceed using your method in this video to return them to the same pots with fresh soil. I don't have a nifty root rake like yours, but I'll manage. Thanks.

Congrats on the new job Jeff!!! 🎉 Your jade looks amazing, as always! I've just repotted my biggest jade (nowhere near as big as yours though) and it was pretty much as root bound as yours. Took a serrated bread knife to cut off the outer and bottom fibrous crust, then used a chopsticks to do loosen the inside. I recently "bonsai(ed) two huge jade plants. All is going well, new leaves are popping out all over the trunks. Thanks for showing me the gravel type of soil you are using. I purchased a mix of pumis, charcoal, and bark chips. With this being said, I have never potted my jades in just "gravel". I believe you already answered my question regarding how often to water (since it's not in dirt) but watch the leaves for clues that it needs water? Historically when potted in dirt, I'd water about every 10-14 days. So water when leaves get pruney? BTW, what is shown is not my email address... I don't know where that came from.

I think your last video on that specific Jade being repotted was 3+years ago. I love that you're all "holy rootbound" followed by "these are shallow rooted" 🤣 tell that to the plant that ate the soil! Now, these big temp swings are affecting my inside air and my Maranta yesterday yellowed up a lot of leaves, my other Maranta went dormant a few months ago then started again then stopped so I have no clue if it will come back... It is wild to me that despite what feels like fairly even indoor temperatures is still having an effect on certain plants, I guess it's got to do with the pressure and stuff in the air?
