Cheese has gone up a lot here in Ireland .I buy mainly Gouda (Dutch cheese ) .It has gone up maybe 50% since the Plan-demic .Its still a lot cheaper though than in Thailand .Other thing i missed in Thailand was good bread .Rimping was the only place i could find decent bread .Other high priced items that i remember are Margarine ,Milk ,Coffee and biscuits .
What I find also stupid is that when this stuff is about to expire they don't even discount it. Where I'm from before throwing stuff away they try at least an 80% discount but yeah... when it comes to these imported things I try to buy stuff locally produced by farangs like us, still expensive but maybe 50% less than the imported equivalent.
All of those prices in US Dollars for the imported stuff are still lower than they are here in the US. For example, the sandwich meat you were looking at 206 THB is about $6.99 USD here for just enough for 2 sandwiches.
I haven't run the numbers but I'm sure you can eat a higher quality and cheaper diet in America than Thailand, if you prepare the food yourself that is. Sure the food here is cheap but that's because it's 90% rice and has little protein. If you made that kind of food in America it could be dirt cheap too. Don't even start comparing, cheese, cured meats and beef, Thailand is WAY more expensive and lower quality.
Great video... nice to know what the prices are like in CM. A bit better than BKK but pricey vices like coffee, booze and Doritos are unavoidable in TH I guess. Veggies and ramen noodles it is!
Sorry I'm spamming now :) Everyone needs to get a bread machine and stop buying that crap at the stores. I can't believe I went so long because I was cheap and lazy. They're only like 5000 baht and make all the difference for when you're craving something non-rice based.
If you want to eat a high quality protein diet which is well varied then Thailand is a total fail, hands down. Supermarkets in America totally put Thailand to shame and are of the reasons I like to go back 2 months a year. I was just watching some other channel where an expat said he's leaving Thailand because of low quality food, not enough protein and of course too much low grade cooking oils in all the local food.
