Exactly, as an ex striker who would play gk its crazy how much gk coaches never want you using your feet to save. They want you to reach down to your foot to hit it with your hand. It never made sense, why use my hand when I can just kick my leg out there and get it.
Tip for all keepers: be aware of your body position and how high/low you are. As you can see, if they weren’t guessing on the ball bouncing and had more height (standing up) they’d have more length to make some saves. Crouching took them out of a chance to make those further saves. Don’t load all your weight like that bc it can make reacting harder
1st 2 were saveable too. In fact, all of them were saveable. A rookie mistake keepers make is that they try to "look cool" and show too much body movements, however they do not pay close attention to the ball movement and trajectory. The biggest asset of goalkeepers are a set of alert eyes. Focus on the ball, predict the movement beforehand, and move towards the ball at the correct time to nail those effective saves.
If You know and watch football/soccer You would know that They only dive at the moment it is struck to guess when it is either a penalty or a shot in the box because the distance then is to short to dive after it is struck They HAVE To guess To be able to reach it in time.
this is good for all athletes in all sports. React don't anticipate. trust yourself and you hard work to let you be fast/quick enough to counter what will happen. Good coaches always say READ AND REACT.
But I have a question to ask. Doesn't a goalkeeper have to have a good eye, or wouldn't it be hard to prevent fractures in practice knowing that they will cause fractures in practice?
Can someone explain that if i am the goalie, is the goal to catch or deflect?? If the striker is too close, im assuming its to pick up the ball but in general, is the ‘goal’ to just get it away?
