true ... Layne's shoes (even being friends with the band) are too big to fill ... Duval just needs to be the best Duval he can be and have fun with the guys.. NO ONE will ever be Layne
Angry chair is not his song and same thing with Man In the Box. Those songs were written by Layne Staley and it’s disrespectful for them to be playing those songs now that he’s dead
They literally could have carried the band onward without even bringing William in William really chops up the layne era material they should really keep him away from it it's very pukey. Lenny Kravitz wannabe be goofball.
@@kskip4242 I love ignorant statements like this. He literally has no comparison to Lenny Kravitz besides his skin tone. He doesn't sing like him, write or play in the same style ect. That's like calling Kravitz a Jimi Hendrix wannabe. The no Layne no Chains fanatics are just amusing at this point. Get over it already. 3 band members decided to sober up. 2 didn't. And they both died. The rest of the band decided in unison to to hire Will and move on with their careers. And that's supposed to be insulting to Layne? Layne insulted the band when he didn't show up to rehearsals, or showed up high out of his mind while others were trying to clean up. Layne insulted the band when they had to refuse to tour because his health declined. Layne insulted the band when he would leave rehab and immediately go to Mark Lanegan's house to get high. Just because Layne was a good person deep down and had once in a lifetime talent doesn't change the fact that his choice to shoot heroin practically destroyed the band, and had he not have OD'd the band would have ended up firing him. Jerry was not going to put off his dreams and career for much longer. They all wanted to keep going but Layne couldn't because he chose to keep using drugs, and that's 100 percent on him.
Seeing them play man in the box live in person is a transcendental experience. They played it in a concert hall and I could feel the fucking air change between the massive wall of amplifiers and every God damn soul in the place singing along at the top of thier lungs
This just makes me realise how i didnt appreciate layne enough, when i saw him alive. Phenomenal singer, no one can even get close to matching his vocals. RIP Layne.
@@satinwarship I do you apparently do but I don't think there's that many. Too many other poppy grungy bands at the time. That shit show Nirvana was in the spotlight most of the time.
Nothing against Mr. Duval he sings good. However, if it's not Layne singing, it's not the Alice in Chains (or Mad Season for that matter) that I want to hear. Whatever "it" is, Layne definitely had that "it" factor. Yes, Mr. Staleys voice was freaking unique and awesome and soulful and haunting and kick a.s, but on top of that voice he had that "it" factor. Singing or not, if he were in the room everyone was drawn to him. Everytime I see something about Layne or AIC I wish that the story would change. That he'd beat his demons and saw the good in life instead of the evil prison he unwittingly helped build that suffocated him. Man, that Era in time and in music had so much skill and talent, yet it came with sooooo much heartbreak as well.
I'm 99% sure the "it" factor is the difference in timbre. Duvall is a baritone, therefore lower notes sound warmer, softer, and deeper, while high notes are thinner and the mix leans closer to head voice, which also makes the distortion sound totally different. Staley was a tenor, so his lows sounded sharper, lighter, and had less natural overtones, which allowed various tone placement decisions to have a more prominent presence. And his high mix was much closer to chest voice, he didn't need to engage the CT muscle quite as much, so his highs sounded fuller, thicker, and more grounded, with a distortion that had that distinct quality. As I said in the beginning, I'm almost sure this is the main factor, so there you go. Btw I'm sorry for potential mistakes, English is not my native language
Yea….because he’s dead. He isn’t trying to replace or mimic Layne. If they hired a singer (like Journey) who simply tried to copy Layne’s vocal style it would be insulting. The standard you’ve set…”it just isn’t Layne” is really goofy. No crap…because no one is trying to sound like Layne. Jerry hiring on Duval is one of the greatest and most effective rock and roll continuations of all time. Some of the songs on the first album they recorded with the new lineup cango toe for toe to anything AIC has ever done in the past. It’s not about keeping the old days alive. That’s why rock and roll is dead today…because fanbase is terrible and refuse to accept anything novel. We literally killed our own music because we’re narcissistic.
AIC and Soundgarden are 2 bands that can't remain the same without Cornell and Staley. No matter what singer took laynes place. Should've just changed to a new name
@@Mary-m8o You know, I on my RU-vid channel I have referenced the exact same thing that it would have been really easy for Jerry to have just changed the name to something like broke. in chains. or Alice without layne. I sing Jerry in 2000 and two. He was opening for Metallica and he was singing songs from dark side of the moon, I think because Layne had just passed and he was probably really upset. Well, I know he was upset. But my point is he was he was touring as Jerry Contrerol then and doing just fine. I know that he's felt right, but I'm talking to text. I'm lazy. So yeah, I mean, I know the band was originally Staley's name anyway. The band name Alice in chains. I also. recognized that Jerry probably put more footwork in than Layne did during the days. But still now there is a huge division within the fan base that wouldn't have been there with just a simple change of the name, like you said, Come check out the channel if you want only if you want. We were monetized. So all you gotta do is hit that logo.
@@Mary-m8o I have like 26 tributes to lane on there and. there and not one of them mentioned the demons and the bad parts. I think there are enough tributes so called on You Tube. that do mention those things every single time. So I wanted to make it a point not to
Why in the hell they thought to hire this man as their vocalist is beyond me. Especially considering is a guy named Brendan out there literally sounds like Layne.
I So Frickin' Miss This Kind Of Gig, But I Had To Leave It Behind, there was no way I was going to live. I miss lots of things terribly, but still alive to do so...
I'm a middle aged rocker and never liked these guys til I listened with a open ear a year ago .. What a great band ♠️ I was too busy with Motörhead to pay attention to this back then..... Great rock n roll !! ♠️🖤♠️
🎉 awesome 👏🏻!!!! Layne and Mike would be proud! They build this beautiful band together and William and Mike continued their journey! I never saw anything like AIC about continuing something without losing the spirit. It’s very inspiring because when a band member leaves the project something goes wrong specially if this member is so unique like Layne. It’s like Aerosmith losing Steven Tyler but keep it going… Duvall always being himself it’s just so beautiful! So glad he is not trying to be a copy of Layne!
Love it! Love Duvall's flair. But, the best change over, to me is still the Hollywood Bowl. After Angry Chair, zoomed out, you can see Jerry literally line up, and slam right into Man, and you can FEEL the crowd all move right into it.
People really need to cut them a break...so many people say they arent good anymore. Thats so not true....people are just mad that Layne is gone. Im just sad about it, but i love Duval and the new stuff is still just as good.
@C H E when did Lynyrd Skynyrd change half the band once? I don't even want any mention of the Gary Rossington's "milk the Lynyrd Skynyrd band name for every last cent" tribute band.
WD is doing and has been doing, an amazing job in AIC. Everyone misses Layne. Layne was a phenomenal singer/songwriter. But WD has really been a great fit in AIC. The guy has proven himself again and again.
