@@Montesama314 To be fair the phone call is real but it has nothing to do with a coup. Basically the phone call is the State Department guy telling Nuland that the EU is worried it is bad for stability the Ukrainian Rada (parliament) voted in Yatsenyuk (the one headband guy kept confusing with Poroshenko) as interrim president, since constitutionally the vice president should take over after the impeachment of the last president. Nuland then says the line that is always quoted as evidence of a coup. "Screw the EU, Yats is the only guy with the political experience, the economic experience… it has to be him. The US has invested three billion dollars building democracy in Ukraine since 1991…" and then the rest of the call is conveniently excluded, including the very obvious end to the sentence; "and we don’t want to see our investments threatened by insisting on handing power back to a member of the old regime." They often also cut out the 1991 part so it sounds like the US just straight up paid $3 billion for the coup.
@@luxborealis So basically, she said "Doesn't matter what the EU wants, Ukraine voted for their choice?" Hell, that makes the coup lie look even WORSE. Eddie really did come in here with negative amounts of evidence.
Notice how Vaush had to *hyper focus* on subjects, DESPITE BEING TOLD OVER AND OVER - the Who, What, When, Where, and Why’s… And the How’s. Vaush never cared about seeking the truth here. Also, for the record: Odessa Massacre, *and the Siege of Mariupol* were details that Eddie either overlooked or Vaush FORCIBLY tried to dismiss, because Vaush *continuously* kept working from his pre-conceived conclusions and worked his way up. Lastly, that Merkel quote WAS in favor of Ukraine invading. Seriously, the Minsk Accords were done - *while the conflict occurred.* If you want the Genocidal Rhetoric from Poroshenko, the Hanging of a Pregnant Woman and her husband by a member of the Donbas Battalion (a Nazi group that Ukraine holds), OR the video that demonstrated that Zelenskyy was *not* in control, I can show them to you… Heck, I can show you the genocidal “reasoning” of millions of “superfluous” people being presented on THEIR channels. Let me know if you want the “Stop Fake” “explanations” to the Poroschenko rhetoric or the Hanging Woman vids (both have a serious plot hole in their explanations.)
As a German it's frustrating to listen to American tankies because despite their claims of being "anti-imperialist" they continuously engage in American exceptionalism. Angela Merkel was not a "leader of NATO", she was the leader of Germany. Germany had strong economic ties to Russia and had been pushing for closer cooperation and stronger dependence on Russian natural gas. Every big company in Germany took a financial hit from the sanctions. A war with Russia was extremely undesirable for Germany and while Merkel was less in bed with Putin than her predecessor, she was hardly an enemy of Russia. Also the idea that NATO wanted to attack Russia is insane. You build up armies for attack AND defense. A Russian attack on Ukraine was far more likely and something Eastern European NATO members were understandably anxious about. And in fact it happened.
The Merkel argument makes zero sense. She is criticized all the time for making Germany so dependent on Russian oil, but sure her evil plan was to have it blow up in her face and fuck the German economy up... For sure it isn't the other way around, that Germany was so dependent on Russian oil, that Putin thought he can do whatever he wanted, noo! The imperialistic nature of the US magically makes Putin a white knight for them, it is crazy! Russia was just minding her own bussiness, just smelling flowers and collecting kitty cats stuck on trees, when the evil NGOs flooded Ukraine and started this nationalistic narrative, that Ukraine could one day join the EU! Russia had absolutely no other choice but to meddle in their affairs and pressure Yanukovych to back out an EU trade agreement and accept a Russian "bailout", not at all the same colonizer bullshit what the US does all the time! That 100+ protesters who got killed by the government were nazi provocateurs, puppets of the US, there is not a single reason why anybody would reject to be a satelite state for Russia, so it is all the US's doing. In the meantime Chechnia is under the rule of a literal warlord with Russian support, Dagestan became a shithole, etc. Pure exploitation all around, but Ukrainians were brainwashed to think Russia is bad... O_o Russia just shamelessly grabbing land left and right, but Putin has anti-american rethoric, so he is a good guy in their book. They also worship Stalin, who was a paragon of democracy in their eyes... total bonkers.
… (Oh boy… this is getting tiresome.) “Taiwan is a country…” Taiwan was a country that underwent *the longest Martial Law episode* lasting 37 years. (1948-1985.) It was sponsored by the U.S. It underwent the hack narrative of “Tiananmen Square Massare” just only a few years after. Ever since, The U.S. has been trying to pull the same stupid stunt that they pulled in Ukraine. One problem: Taiwanese people aren’t stupid. They see what Ukraine has underwent. So unless if anyone WANTS to bring back The White Terror of the 1940’s *back,* then look elsewhere. Because Taiwan knows that the West doesn’t give a shit about Ukraine, so what will make Taiwan any different?
What lie was he caught on? Think. *USE YOUR BRAIN…* Why do you need a Peace Accord, in a time where there’s no violence? Why would you need TWO - if there was no conflict? Care to tell me why Merkel said they *wanted* to “build up” *Ukraine’s* Defenses? Defense AGAINST WHAT? Russia didn’t attack Ukraine until *8 years* from a genocide campaign, a series of referendums that obtained mixed success, A SIEGE and a massacre, and two presidents getting their brains violently corrected by their Military. (And yes, even I did not get every detail in there, but that’s how F-D up Ukraine got after 2014!)

My favorite parts of the debate are when Vaush asked "why would they do this thing that makes 0 sense and they wouldn't get anything from it except the world ending" and he goes "yeah i don't know that's why it's so insane that they're doing this!" without realizing that Vaush was trying to point out his conspiratorial thinking
Vaush sometimes writes an essay for an answer, it happens, and sometimes the question calls for it. But this guy wanted to write an entire essay repeating all of his points for every single question.
its literally the dumbest thing as a european to watch this even exist. NATO could end russia's army in convential war in 2 days. This is NOT about NATO and he claims it is when in reality its just ukraine's survival.
Eddie: *gives multiple, long winded and faulty talking points without giving Vaush a chance to counter* Also Eddie: "omg Vaush how dare you interrupt me and not let me answer" My brother in christ pick a lane
That's describes a lot of opponents Vaush has debated in the past, really. When you don't let them go off for an hour, they cry foul and say that you're not letting them talk
I love how he based his ENTIRE argument on the Angela Merkel quote, and everything just kept spiraling and building until... 1:17:20 And it all comes crashing down lmfao. That was actually the stretch of the century, I'm flabbergasted.
"What did I do to deserve you hitting me?" "How about that time you hit me, how's that for justification?" "But I only hit you after you first hit me." "Your aggression and provocations started long before that." And repeat.
Literally something an abuser says to their victim. You know I used to think Vaush was over the top when he said that everyone who disagrees with him ends up being a huge pos but in the last year I've really started to see it.
the basic premise of all their arguments is that Ukraine needs permission from Russia to do anything and if they don't get it then Russia has a right to do whatever.
Interesting thing about Tankies. Like all conspiracy theorists, they like to name drop random government officials of limited importance. Both because they think it makes them sound educated on the topic, and because they are more interested in fabricating villains than challenging systems.
You've got a point they love latching on to minor figures or events that aren't really that important in the grand scheme of things. Like they latch on to some far right groups that were involved the protests (which represented a wide array of Ukrainian) who got pretty swiftly outvoted in the following elections
@@DamienPalmer well THAT’s exactly the kind of response response that I’ve heard the updated dialogue trees are giving out….. *narrows eyes quizzically*
As a Ukrainian, this was the most difficult watch ever, absolutely excruciating 💀 Vaush is the goat for being able to handle this guy without exploding 5 seconds into the conversation 😫
He has an unbelievable level of patience. I’m Ukrainian Canadian, we definitely do not like bullies and retards like this Eddie halfwit. The guy has probably never spoken to a Ukrainian or even done the bare minimum of watching street interviews.
I wanna know how frustrating is it to be called Nazis when the Russian militaries main mercenaries the Wagner group have a leader tattooed with actual Nazi symbols.
It was and it is especially painful beca Vaush knows the surface level staff. I would really want him to connect with some of our activists to catch up on the history of the whole thing. Like the fact that Euromaidan took place in EVERY town of Ukraine, snipers actually being part of Berkut from Kharkiv and Lwiv( yeah, I know) and the fact that Azov was formed by russian speakers in russian speaking city of Mariupol. There is soo much things and it’s SOO SAD that because Ukrainian media is not powerful as russian one those nuances don’t come out at all.
I mean tankies operate exactly like the governments that they are obsessed with - lie, lie, lie until the lies and the truth are impossible to separate and you've created propaganda so strong that you eventually start believing your own lies and treat the philosophy as dogma.
It’s funny, cause Vaush kept HYPER-FOCUSING on details that he didn’t really care about. He kept constantly interrupting to ask for “where did X go”, or “what did Y do… again…” Despite being told (OVER AND OVER again…) that Billions went into Ukraine, the N.E.D. were involved, there’s a leaked phone call *that demonstrated intent…* and much more. Dude, there’s even MORE details that Eddie overlooked, but Vaush wouldn’t care, because he kept working backwards from his conclusions. How does one proclaim that RUSSIA sent in the snipers to make the protests look bad, when Eddie mentioned it was Neo-Nazi groups like C14? Hell, *there's video* of the C14 leader *bragging* about how the Maidan would have been a “Gay Pride Parade” were it not for them… I can show you plenty… But that doesn’t mean that you would care, sooooo… be aware that Eddie did overlooked some things, and that’s why people like me exist. To fill in the rest.
That’s why I think the "pretend not to know anything" tactic was a bad choice, it is easily clippable to make it seem like he is educating Vaush one-sidedly instead of being blown out. That’s also why he had the script.
Interestingly, I think this is a common symptoms of conspiratorial thinking. Basically, because a conspiracy is built on many little threads instead of easy to understand points he has to list all of them in order to "form" a point. His threads can't stand individually
@Froggsroxx It's called the Gish Gallop. If you bombard people with points then your opponent has no time to address them all, so most of them go undebunked.
@@lacintag5482 oh yeah for sure. I just think it's a slightly more specific form of gish gallop because he needs the pieces to all be presented together, where as a gish gallop is just any random points strung together. I think in his mind he thinks he's building a case lol
It’s crazy how TikTokers fall apart when a second person is involved because they’re so used to no one being able to talk back when making their propaganda.
This debate was really such an incredible, beautiful slow burn. Vaush used the Socratic method really well to slowly build up this guy’s argument until all it took was one push for it to come crashing down. Amazing.
I commented this myself after watching the first few minutes but then I looked at his video headlines and listened to some of his videos about guns and his takes on right wing media personalities and besides having similar sounding voices and the same position on Ukraine, I suspect he wouldn’t get along with Jackson Hinkle all that much. Hinkle is effectively a far-right conservative in all but name. He went on Tucker Carlson, he’s friendlier to right-wingers than he is to liberals, he loves patriotism and guns, he wants an American dictator who would ally with Putin against European neo-liberalism, etc. But this Eddie guy will attack right wingers who say negative things about any nominally communist state, at least from my cursory investigation. People that Hinkle has collaborated with have said things that Eddie would probably not stand for. I feel like the only point Eddie and Jackson would agree on is wanting a Putin style dictator in America who opposes neo-liberalism but overall, Jackson seems more like a grifter.
Teachers telling kids not to cite wikipedia really caused people to think they can just dismiss anything on there. Also, the reason you shouldn't cite wikipedia is because it's a secondary source, not because it's wrong...
Actually Wikipedia is a tertiary source like most Encyclopedia sources. The main problem is that because it's a collection of other Primary and Secondary sources, sometimes it is inaccurate. I've had to deal with several inaccuracies on my time there, however I've corrected for it by LOOKING AT THE SOURCES THEY CITE ON WIKIPEDIA. Not everything is accurate, but if you want to make sure that it is, the process of verifying sources really isn't that hard.
One thing I'll add to this that Knowing Better mentioned in his video on Christian Science is to be skeptical of where the sources on Wikipedia come from as well. He goes into depth about it, but I'll summarize here that effectively all the sources on Wikipedia come from propaganda written by Christian Scientists. Use it as a jumping off point, sure, but do your due diligence
@@brandongarcia2929 I'll also add that a lot of history related pages for wikipedia are pretty sketchy (especially outside of the western mainstream topics of Western Europe or North American history but even those aren't perfect). A lot of them are in constant edit wars between different groups, use very subjective language meant to conjure up certain biases, treat fringe takes and mainstream takes as equals, use sources that are really old when for so many fields I wouldn't really go for a source that's older than maybe 90s but even that's pushing it a lot of times, hell depending on certain more specific topics and advancements even a 10 year old one might be too much. There's a lot of nationalist propaganda too. I've seen a lot of sketchy or 404 dead sites used as sources for huge claims. Or pages with little to no sources to begin with or which abuse the sourcing system to sneak in bs claims that they pretend to source when its actually something else they're sourcing (or using wrong pages to misdirect) or do constant lies by omission to reach a different conclusion. I've even caught people fucking copy pasting Total War and Civilization descriptions word for word. Or using pictures from there. I've also seen people literally use the page itself as a makeshift chatroom to argue. With one paragraph coming from one writer and the one below going like "no, the paragraph above is wrong, do your research, the opposite is true" and it stays there for years (think the specific one I'm thinking of might still be up as I type this). I always warn people against relying too much on wikipedia for history at least since that's my field and I'm familiar with it, can't comment on other pages. Always double check the sources for every claim. Make sure they're recent. Make sure the writer has the proper credentials and isn't some pop history hack that has no business writing on that topic or some nutjob. And even then maybe keep a pinch of salt on hand just in case.

Prepared statements where everything isn't going off memory is a good thing. Unfortunately Vaush needs to manufacture drama for views and guarantee a 'win' in the eyes of a devoted fan rather than seriously try to work out specific disagreements so his 'debates' where he is also the moderator and has mic preference are more like hostile interviews where he's trying to frustrate the person he's interviewing for the sake of audience entertainment.

Who invaded, thats the agressor, the imperialist who is literally trying to reconstruct the defunct soviet empire by attacking its former satellites, thats who.
I think I kinda disagree with this. Like, the early Roman empire was known for purposefully building up military presence on neighbors borders knowing they would eventually strike an offensive to protect their borders and give Rome the justification to invade and conquer. That being said, I don't think that's what America is doing because the idea the America or Ukraine thinks it's going to conquer Russia is just pure insanity, just that I do think it's possible to be the aggressor and not the invader.
@@adamsmasher9769 oh I'm not saying Ukraine is the aggressor. It's 100% Russia. I'm saying the original post sounds like he's saying whoever invades is automatically the aggressor in any situation and I'm just saying I disagree with that.
@@adamsmasher9769 If I am following Eddie's logic, he believes that the 2014 coup was a western/NATO plot to build up military presence in Ukraine on the borders of Russia which threatened Russia's sovereignty and possible means to invade as said in the Roman historical example. Only problem is, I don't a western backed invasion ever happening without causing a nuclear winter of the entire world since Russia has a shit ton of nukes. Imagine going thru the entire conflict siding with the actual NAZIS... :(
Genuine question, but how'd you end up in that state, and what was your mindset and attitude then? What did you believe, and what was your goal or mission from your POV?
@@dinosaysrawr Short answer? Honest inquiry. Being part Ukrainian myself (on my mother's side), I wanted to believe that the Ukrainian government were the good guys, but after seeing the Berkut firing on protesters, I started to have doubts. That was after Yanukovych had signed that law permitting the use of live ammo to suppress protesters, but that little fact was conveniently left out of the Russian narrative. The best propaganda tells you just enough truth to rope you into believing a web of lies, and being intellectually honest (as much as I try to be, anyways), I ended up following the Russian propaganda thinking that I was getting better information than the western news media (whose coverage wasn't that good at the time, to be honest). Eventually, getting into some arguments with people who knew better, and noticing that some elements of the Russian narrative weren't exactly congruent with reality, I realized that Russia was lying, and that I'd fallen for it. Having access to open-source intelligence, like Bellingcat's collection of satellite images allowed me to see that the BUK launcher that brought down MH-17 came over the Russian border, rather than being fired from the Ukrainian side, and THAT was a huge turning point for me. Russian propaganda relies on your ignorance to propagate, and having lived my whole life in Canada, there was a fair bit I wasn't well aware of. I was never a "tankie," nor did I have an anti-western leaning. Honesty got me in, and honesty got me back out. Having fallen for it before though, it particularly infuriates me to hear people like this twerp Vaush was debating (who's name I don't care to remember) spewing the very same lies I was helping to propagate, and doing so without allowing for the slightest bit of context or nuance.

While I'm certain this definitively shown Eddie to be a deliberate and manipulative liar, I'm also worried that exact trait is going to serve him well coming out of this debate. With his main platform being on TikTok, I can already see how easily he could cut the debate up to neuter the fact that he needs to keep back pedal on his lies. Vaush's inquisitive approach helps, but I'm not sure it's enough.

Wether he was or not, he certainly sounded like he was reading from a script. His entire argument was predicated on Angela Merkel admitting that NATO was building up troop numbers to invade Russia. She didn’t say that. Not remotely and he admitted that she didn’t. End of.

I really like the tactic Vaush has used in this one, and it shows that logic doesn't work with tankies. I think this debate could have been over much sooner with the question: "Ok, but how does any of it justifies russian invasion and/or annexation in 2014? Even if your facts are true, we're talking about a coup inside a country and civil war inside that country, none of that touched russia in any way, yet they decided to intervene unprovoked", but I think an argument that short would have went waaaaay over his head.
Also the major of Ukrainians speak ruzzian as their first language after decades of oppression of their own language and culture, and Russification. And Ukrainians are only promoting their own language over ruzzian. How is that wrong?
The Ukrainian language is an official state language in Russia under article 68 of the constitution as a minority language of Crimea with 1.1 million speakers. Not sure why you think it is illegal (but it isn’t taught in Russian schools of course).
@@AV-fp7ys I think the point is that Russian WAS taught in Ukrainian schools until 2022. It WAS used as a lingua franca until 2022. People in my home town of Odesa mostly spoke Russian(most probably still do). There was never an issue with the language until Russia made it one.

The lie at the heart of this is really very simple. Before Russia invaded NATO were not at war with Russia. After Russia invaded NATO is depserately trying to avoid direct conflict with Russia. If the NATO endgame was aggression on Russian soil, this is as good a time as any to get stuck in with an immense counter offensive. Perfect moral excuse, and Russia have shown their military hand now so it's a pretty advantageous strategic position. But nobody wants a war on European soil, too much to lose, business disrupted etc. Except Russia, the authoritarian state with little structure of obligation to its citizens and a strong man leader who clearly feels he has nothing to lose. People who fear loss don't risk it all unless they absolutely have to.

Why does Russia get to dictate what alliances the sovereign neighboring countries can and can't participate in? Is there a reason why countries near Russia desperately want NATO protection? Has Russia in the past shown aggression to their neighbors and/or tried to destabilize them? I always here the phrase, "NATO is invading countries around Russia so they had to act." but by invade, they're not talking about how Russia invaded Ukraine. They use "invade" to mean political navigating and forming alliances with the countries' governments; no tanks needed. NATO and Russia both push and pull at other countries' internal politics. Russia, being the ones to use military force to seize areas and occupy them, has had a really strong effect on countries' (that could have been allies) desire to join NATO for protection from Russia. Maybe the strong hand of the strong dictator was the wrong geopolitical strategy to gain influence and power by Russia? And now they're throwing out threats of first strike nuclear action for a number of different scenarios. Maybe the tolerance/support of a generation long dictator known for murdering or jailing rivals isn't the best way forward for most nations.
Lol, you can tell right before he turns his laptop around he quickly turns off the screen on his desktop, you can even see the black screen briefly before he strategically moves the camera to show his maps.
Imagine if you will, a tankie assured he is a leftist, armed with knowledge from RT and a 'photographic memory' of all the 'correct points' ready to inundate you with this information. Should you look for an escape, a way out, a means to carry on a proper conversation you will only be met with more jibber jabber. You are not in a debate, but rather.... the twilight zone
As an Estonian, im fully on board with NATO being here. Its fantastic, im also in reserve meaning in case of a war im sent to the front and STILL i want NATO here.
I hate living in a world where some basement dwelling twenty something can ask incredulously "YOU DON'T KNOW WHO RIGHT SECTOR IS!?" .. and we have to pretend to care.
Oh my god im only 20 mins in and i knew this was gonna be a slaughter from the moment that vaush started asking for specific dates and he started sprinting away cause he KNEW he'd walked straight into a trap.
Wow I love debates! I sure hope Voog is talking to somebody who can straightforwardly answer questions and not ramble for 10 minutes every time Vash coughs!
The video title warned me, but I didn't listen. The intro clip warned me, but I didn't listen. I have nobody to blame but myself for the harm that was done to my brain.
Couple points to add: Ukrainian parliament was not occupied by Euromaidan protesters in 2014. The next guy in line to become an acting president of Ukraine was a speaker of the parliament. But that guy resigned on 22 of February 2014 and the guy named Oleksandr Turchinov (opposition leader) was elected by the parliament to be the speaker of the parliament and thus to become an acting president of Ukraine.
Seeing this live, it only reminded me of the filibusterer-fest that was Maupin. It's pretty clear these tankies have no actual positions to depend on, and expect to just monopolize the time to get by with seeming competent.
god out of all of it, the fact that he really thinks that russia in basically stronger than nato.. in a way that they can actually 'drain nato arms capabilities and money', with this war... that he thinks russia is actually in control of this shit, is the most hilariously, obviously delusional part of this for me. (or.. maybe im the delusional one haha god i hope for all our sakes, thats not the case😅)
Theres a reason that debate is in quotations. To anyone that actual thinks this is a debate and that the tankie did well. This is literally just a conversation to Vaush. He doesn't debate people that just have talking points and throw word vomit at him while they openly lie and omit facts that aren't favorable to their talking points. All Vaush is doing is taking the tankie talking points and literally just adding more context to them then the Tankie wants you to have.
the argument that this war is weakening NATO and it's members is insane. Literally all of Europe tripled down on their military investment. The support is actually increasing every day both financially and technologically. This guy is in an alternate reality.
This Eddie guy's understanding of what happened is as deep as a puddle. So, so, so surface level. I expect he doesn't yet grasp what understanding even is. Extradidinary statements require extraordinary evidence. All he had was statements. Claiming over and over that the US funded a coup but not knowing how much was funded. Where it specifically came from. Who it went to. How they used it. How frequent that was. How proportional it was. Coordination established. This stuff isn't even deep. It's just barely beyond the surface level of a single claim and he could even deliver that.
A lot of conspiracy theories rely on unfocusing your eyes to look at superficial apparent connections, and just endlessly going over those without going deeper into any of them. Eddie saying "you're missing the forest for the trees" is quite ironic. People like him endlessly talk about the forest, but stumble when you ask them to show you a tree. When you point out that the "tree" they presented is a telephone pole they get angry and tell you there are tons of trees and to look at the forest. The fact that any time you examine one of the supposed trees it isn't a tree doesn't even bother them.
@@Powersd451e contextualization of that idiom is a perfect analogy of the dribble this guy spouted or will spout in this debate. I’m only 10 minutes in and it’s already obvious this guy is, purposely or not, an idiot.
Yanokavish set up near Nazi laws against speech, protest, and libraries. During the protests he ordered to gun down protesters. (Told to do such by the Kremlin. Duh!) Fuck this moron.
This guy has NATO doctrine completely backward. We SUCK at small-scale clandestine conflict. We rule at full-scale operations. And we may have demilitarized quite a bit, but... well, nothing can move mountains faster than American spite for better and mostly for worse.
