Another reason that the kingsnake may be thin and sickly is that it could be 1 of those very rare kingsnakes who managed to live to old age in the wild. It's not super common but sometimes it does happen.

I live in Southern Virginia and I saw you guys go through the Monitor Merrimack tunnel so where did you end up herping? Suffolk? Chesapeake? And the weather you experienced is typical of Hampton Roads. That King snake’s tail; could have have pulled some of that stuck shed from his tail? I suppose you had reason for not doing that but good video.
