I also think Finn didn't perceive Ice King as a human before that tape. All he had to shape his perception were Jake, the candy people, the many monsters and creatures of Ooo, and so on. He must've seen Ice King as -- for lack of a better word -- another creature/humanoid-but-not-human entity within Ooo. A creature that's cartoonish and comical and the antagonist to the hero. So I'd like to think that after that tape, Finn realized a faint hope of being able to interact with a fellow human, like how he was excited to find Susan and the Hyoomans. Then again, I've forgotten the many episodes of AT and this was probably well enough described in an episode lolll.

It ties in to several things. The means for the person to use it are like a drug. Long-lasting effects of the Crown are like a degenerative disease, like dementia. And there is also ploy on fate in there. Since most people who used the Crown end up in uncanny circumstances and have no choice or idea what they are getting themselves in to.

It's more like a dementia and/or alzheimer sickness not an addiction, no adicction will keep you so aware that your losing yourself, losing your mind and those can be hereditary so you have nothing to do since both have no cure too
