When I was a kid in the mid-2000s, I used to have this cartoon on a DVD of public domain Popeye cartoons. This is the only one I remember for some reason. I think I still have that disc somewhere. That DVD was one of two PD cartoon DVDs I had back then. The other was a Woody Woodpecker DVD with Pantry Panic on it.
This is certainly something to look forward to, especially if you’re collecting the Popeye the sailor 1940s DVD collections. Hopefully they’ll be more after this first one. This Popeye cartoon has a similar plot to a Felix the cat cartoon many years later.
Nice Color! It makes a lower budget shorts of the later 50s more pleasing to the eye.The plot feels like a Donald Duck short from a decade before, only this is funnier.
3:57 If Popeye Had Stared Out The Window And Seen What Those Termites Were Doing, He Could Have Went Outside And Pushed The Can Underwater To Drown Them.
I must have missed this upload. Absolutely amazing! I remember distinctly watching this one on TV way back when I was a little kid. It was one of my favorites. It never looked this good. Somehow the ending to this one is so satisfying. Always loved how Popeye regularly breaks the 4th wall at the end and sings his theme, like you are a part of the fun. I wish this beloved character would return, but we all know Hollywood would mess it up somehow.
FYI, Paramount no longer owned the copyright for these shorts ever since 1957-1958 since A.A.P (Eventually bought by United Artists making A.A.P Defunct) bought the rights to the Popeye shorts as well as the pre-1948 Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts that were done in Technicolor and Cinecolor as well as the 1931-33 B&W Harman/Ising Merrie Melodies shorts. United Artists failed to renew the copyright of the 1956-1957 Popeye shorts in 1984-1985 causing them to fall into the public domain and appear on many various PD vhs tape and DVD sets. Also Famous Studios went defunct in 1956 renaming the studio to Paramount Cartoon Studios until its closure in 1967 when Paramount was bought by Gulf-Western, before being bought by Paramount Communications in the late 80s and eventually Viacom in 1994. The Popeye shorts are currently under ownership by Warner Bros since Time Warner bought the Pre-May 20 1986 Turner Entertainment library from MGM/UA in late 1996.
I hope that Warner Archive Collection will restored The 1950's Popeye The Sailor Cartoons from 1950-1957 including one of those shorts are in public domain and I hoped they restored in HD quality, especially 4K scans.
We’re already on the 1940s volume 3 by Warner Archive. If they continue this by releasing two years of cartoons per set then it would be on the 1950s volume 4
Whoa! This popeye film is so amazing! Perhaps you should upload more cartoons, like Taxi-Turvy, Popeye for President, A Haul in One, Nearlyweds, Gopher Spinach, Patriotic Popeye, and Cookin' with Gags on your RU-vid Channel. You love them! Right, Steve Stanchfield?
In this cartoon Insect To Injury, Popeye was finished building his house when suddenly, termites were eating everything. With his strength of spinach, Popeye decides to build his entire house (and his pipe) out of metal.
I remember this before, especially the last part. It's great to see this from a film transfer. The TV version I used to see isn't so good as far as I remember from years ago.
Wow I’m 15 but I used to watch these on tv when I was younger I couldn’t remember what but this video came across my mind so I tried searching it up and found it
And Turner Entertainment / Warner Bros. Entertainment, also for Popeye 1933-1957 cartoon shorts originally released by Paramount Pictures and reissued by United Artists.
Actually it is unrestored but better sound quality. It is a 35mm true Technicolor print and it will restore in 4K scans HD restoration version as part of the upcoming Popeye the Sailor: The 1950s, Volume 4 Blu-ray through Warner Archive Collection.
I saw this a LONG time ago= Early 70's. One that i'll always remember...... I'm old! The barn doors on the ship might have been the last of that series before it was changed to a newer version. Anyone know the year that was released? 3 pm after school daily! It was crude/crusty =editing, but part of my childhood! Now, i'de go see the new Popeye, if it ever gets made to film. I know you're out there, because Popeye is older than all of us! Let's here it!
