Inside … Crewe Freightliner Depot ( plus Crewe Works and Pete Waterman Loco )

Time to visit Crewe! To the Freightliner Depot for an inside look there, then onto the historic Crewe Works where the Pendolino trains are having bogie refurbishments taking place across their entire, fleet. We then go and surprise Pete Waterman who is having a loco named after him!
Freightliner held the naming ceremony at Crewe railway station, to mark Pete's contrubution to the railway industry, he is the President of the Railway Benefit Fund.

Trust me it shouldn't be 😂😂. The last bit of the old Crewe works has been turned into housing Estates. Walk down west street past dunwoody way go past a Care home past the more housing, walk by fast food places and super market, walk by a cinema, bingo hall and bowling alley turn left past a pub go by tesco and then you get to crewe heritage center.

Yeah theres not much in Crewe, The heritage centre next to the big tesco is probably the only interesting bit left. Also side note they turned the pizza hut next to the cinema into a Taco Bell, like its a disgrace

Never knew that LNER goes to Crewe. Since when LNER goes to Crewe from London King’s Cross or from Edinburgh Waverley via Leeds/Manchester Piccadilly. Some of the Freightliner Class 90s came from Greater Anglia.

Well I learnt how a nameplate gets put on a locomotive, Brilliant video Geoff and years ago there were groups who did yards tours at Crewe Basford Hall in groups and used to be lovely seeing the locos in the yard. Also great to see a loco named after Pete Waterman

It's another inside job from Geoff! I've only ever been through Crewe as a passenger, but this was superb behind the scenes coverage. Just scratching the surface here, it must have been absolutely fascinating to be able to have a go around the depot and works. It is just amazing how much work goes into keeping the railways going, and I can't imagine how much planning and work it takes for you to get this type of access to share with us.

Great video Geoff, brought back lots of memories as Crewe is my old stomping ground. I remember going to a Crewe Works open day in the late ‘70s and standing beneath a class 47 that had been lifted up by one of the massive cranes in the depot. Many of my schoolmates got apprenticeships there in the early ‘80s. I recall a long summer of train-spotting in 1978 at the far south end of platform 1, watching class 08, 20, 25, 31, 37, 40, 47, 86 & 87 locos going hither and yon.
